The fact of the matter is, the Green Ranger was going to be a part of this, whether JDF was alive or not. They gave him a chance to be a part of it, and he declined. They shot what they did knowing he wasn't going to be part of it. From jump, it seemed that if Tommy were to be part of it, he wasn't going to be as focal, as it's clear that the story is framed around the fall of Trini. If he appears only morphed, then so be it. It honestly wouldn't be the first time that's happened. Fans should remember the SPD/Dino Thunder crossover where Tommy appeared, but only morphed, and was voiced by Jeffrey Parazzo. I know it's the elephant in the room, but this was shot WAAAY before he passed away. This was not designed to be some send-off for Tommy. They could only work with the actors/actresses they ACTUALLY had at that time. And be real: this isn't some big-budget movie or show. I doubt they'd be granted the extra funds to film extra in New Zealand for what's still ostensibly a KIDS SHOW. For what this is supposed to be, and the resources they have, this honestly looks great. Surprised they went that route with Trini, but ultimately I'm okay with it. Enough time has passed, and if the character gets a heroic death, then that's somewhat respectful. It doesn't feel in bad taste, and considering that her daughter is playing a big role in this, they're taking that storyline seriously.

Totally agree. 💯 personally I’m glad the other OG Rangers are getting their time to shine. The majority of the fandom will always be grateful for what JDF brought to the franchise. But I’m really excited to see Walter and David back in the suits.

@@nostalgiccollector89 Again, no disrespect to JDF. It's a shame what happened to him. But let's not pretend that there weren't a contingent of fans who, frankly, were kinda tired of having these anniversary/team-up episodes framed around Tommy. While his fight scene in "Dimensions in Danger" was legit cool, it did leave the OTHER Rangers with relatively nothing to do. I'm happy to see these other Rangers get the spotlight in this special. And for everyone lamenting the absence of Amy Jo Johnson and Austin St. John, it is what it is. The fact of the matter is that MMPR was more than just that first season. Season 2 and 3 arguably were better seasons storyline-wise, and the new characters were a part of that. Rocky, Adam, Aisha, and Kat are just as worthy of being a part of this special, as the OGs.

I think that JDF officially retired from Power Rangers before his passing. Filming of this episode probably took place before JDF's passing. I don't think that Tommy will be unmorphed. Also...Rita split into two beings. There was a good Rita that appeared in Mystic Force as Mystic Mother...and her evil spirit was placed whatever is "Hell" in the power rangers universe. Maybe Robo Rita is the evil spirit brought out of Hell. This should be a great episode!

I think you need to temper your expectations with the Green Ranger. It sounds like you are setting yourself up to be dissapointed and dislike the special as a result. This was all filmed before he passed away. You can't hold that against the show and worrying about it will just sour your enjoyment man.

Exactly! I have No idea why everyone is still harping over who the green Ranger will be. JDF is not in this and they confirmed that Adam and Aisha has non fighting roles. I foresee them using voiceovers at best with keeping his identity behind the helmet.

Agreed. Tommy had his time and I was tired of him before JDF passed. JDF had his chance to reunite and passed on favor of his bootleged series and disagreement with Hasbro.

It’s definitely just going to be a helmet head with a non speaking role. I agree just enjoy it, they couldn’t get JDF or Austin to be a part of it. I’m sure they tried but scheduling or whatever reason probably didn’t work

You have to remember that this was filmed before JDF died. To judge the episode for not addressing that is unfair. I would expect maybe a graphic before or at the end but they weren't going to refilm the whole episode.

With the fight scene with all six rangers it will be at the beginning with the death of Trini. The bandora protocol is a nice nod to bandora from zyuranger also if you play close attention to the screen you will see alpha contacting reefside coral harbor and astro megaship. The zords and megazord scenes looks like will be used with a model of the zap megazord. The original musician that did music for power rangers is back for the special. There is also the question of how did Rocky and Kat get the power coins? In one shot you see figure models of Jason, Kim and Tommy in the morphed form. Looks like she is using the power of the grid to power her time machine. So is there extra coins laying around?

I'm so excited for this!!! Robo Rita is gonna be a challenge to the rangers as it really seems they may not have morphed as much in their adulthood as they did as teens. I will be honest I'm worried about how they are gonna handle the green ranger, but I'm still gonna watch it and feel like it's Saturday morning as a kid

I mean, it is what it is. Regardless of JDF being around or not, the Green Ranger is was always gonna be a part of this. And they filmed this LONG before JDF's passing. There's precedent for Rangers returning, only in morphed form. In the case of Tommy, he appeared in the Dino Thunder/SPD crossover, but only appeared morphed, and was voiced by Jeffrey Parazzo. It only stings more now, knowing that he's passed.

I feel like if JDF stayed part of the project we would see more but, if they don't make the green ranger Tommy's kid inheriting the power like Trini's daughter, I could see Tommy falling due to Robo Rita traveling in the past and basically telling OG Rita to not make Tommy her green ranger

There’s a theory from Power Ranger experts that this is kind of linked to Hyperforce and also the idea of inter-dimensional travel and the Robo Rita is from another dimension where she didn’t yet become Mystic Mother, she found a way to travel interdimensionally and through time before the events that turned her into Mystic Mother, and this is the Rita from a time where she’s still hellbent on eliminating the rangers.

Ok you need to remember that this was filmed BEFORE Jason David Frank passed away, do not blame them for not being able to predict someone's death that's a real crappy thing to do. I'm sure will get some kind of tribute for him but it'll likely be in Cosmic Fury instead and maybe something at the end of this special. Yes it sucks that this is the way it went but there's no need to get angry at the writers and other crew for that. My focus for this special is on the fact that David Yost and Walter Jones are FINALLY returning to the show, I've been wanting that for such a long time.I'm not about to ruin my excitment for that by placing expectations on this special that are extremely unfair to begin with.

I'm going out on a full guess here but hear me out. Rita is going to time travel right? We see the yellow ranger along with the other 5 running from the flames in the trailer and then seemingly the yellow ranger (Trini) is killed off. This must be a flashback, meaning the red, green, and pink rangers are Jason, Tommy, and Kim. I am wondering if they will voice over during these scenes with old clips or unused material from the 90s, or if any of them will surprise us with a guest appearance. But this would mean that the reunion actually features ALL of the entire MMPR team: Billy, Rocky, Jason, Kat, Kim, Trini, Aisha, Adam, Tommy. Just realizing this! Kinda cool! Whether you're a 1st gen fan or 2nd gen fan you kinda get it all even if some of the actors can't be there.

Dude. The amount of Nostalgia and childhood memories from this trailer is hitting hard right now. If this turns out good, they should move on to making an animated series loosely based on the boom comics. I can see it working. But damn did they not hold back on Trini's death.

There is SO much in the trailer that just brings out questions. Trailers are rarely chronologically accurate (to the film) with their scenes, so clever editing could be putting things in place to hide bigger reveals. When Alpha seems to be recruiting Rocky and Kat back, the tube that looks like it may have once been Zordon's energy tube seems to have a crack in it. Rita's line "now it's a reunion" seems to be on the moon palace. Could mean anything from Tommy actually being in this, but it having been kept super under wraps; Zordon getting a return if they're going back in time to before they were rangers, means he'd be alive; Zedd could make a return since he canonically has his evil form back; Billy's line "no it can't be" could be him seeing the yellow ranger following Trini's death. Strap in folks. THE HYPE IS REAL!!!!

I think the episode will be as good as can be. As a true Power Ranger fan and fan of the great JDF this episode was never going to live up to what it truly could have been if they had of gotten JDF, Amy Jo and Austin involved. It would be fantastic to see those three in this episode but they’ve made a celebration of 30 years so I say we have to embrace what they have done. All I’ve ever wanted is to see JDF and Austin morph on screen with the rest of the cast again, and if that’s not going to happen then all we can do is be thankful that Netflix cares enough to produce even this. Honestly so excited to see them embrace the full spectrum of MMPR with so many cast changes and embrace all seasons of MMPR. It will be emotional, it will make us laugh, but there’s unfortunately going to be a huge piece missing and that piece will always be held near and dear to our hearts. May the power protect you brother, after 30 years It’s MORPHIN TIME ONCE MORE!

Antman 3 ended up doing re-shoots in january for a february premier, do you think there is a chance they did re-shoots after hearing about jdf's death? i like the idea of robo rita; you get barbra back as rita's voice and don't have to worry about finding an actress that looks like the 90s version. i don't recall master vile being destroyed so he could have either transformed good rita or created the evil daughter rita failed to be.

I say that because we have confirmation they are still around after Zordon's energy wave from Forever Red episode from Wild force (I think that was the season). Ant-Man is part of a colossal big budget Disney-owned movie franchise. Let's face it, Power Rangers is simply not that. It's a kids show franchise. As hype as I am for this, this does not look like a big-budget production. They're not gonna fork out resources to do extensive reshoots, even for JDF's passing. I personally wouldn't expect anything more than a tag at the end: "In Loving Memory of JDF". If they were able to work in something, that'd be a pleasant surprise. But I doubt it. They went into this project knowing JDF wasn't going to be part of it, so it is what it is.

i saw a post talking about since we have "robo Rita" what if it is the Machine Empire? i kinda figured maybe they are using Ritas' evil that they somehow captured and made a body to put it in, in the form of Rita. there is a time travel aspect in it, so maybe the Machine Empire went back in time just before Andros destroyed Zordons energy tube and retrieved a vile of her evil and someone hid away (since the Z wave also destroyed them as well) and now was the time to return. honestly though i bet its like you said "forget about the Z wave turning all even back into good" and just watch a nostalgic MMPR anniversary episode. lol

Honestly (and I hope this is the case), this thought literally just came into mind, but I am thinking that Robo Rita might have been created by the Machine Empire... After all, Rocky, Adam, Billy, and Kat were all a part of the veteran team that made up Zeo, so it makes sense that the Machine Empire would be a part of this reunion... Also, Robo Rita's design is very similar in style to that of a robot/robomonster from the Machine Empire...

I suspect Jason Kim and Tommy are captured by Robo-Rita shortly after Trini dies as we see a shot of Robo-Rita with Red/Pink/Green Power Ranger Statues, I think Billy and Zack are the only 2 to escape and that's why they call Rocky and Kat for reinforcements.

I think this itself is planned to be a one and done special for OG fans that grew up with MMPR. However if Netflix makes a lot of money with this we might get more specials like this with other generations of rangers

I think that the Trini reveal wasn’t going to be as major as the Green Ranger reveal so they put it in the trailer. It would be awesome if Jason Lee Scott took Tommy Oliver’s place, if there was some way he could do that (I think he has legal issues right now but I don’t remember). Maybe JDF did reprise his role a final time for the nostalgia (like when someone comes out of retirement for one more go, then his unfortunate passing). That would be freaking epic. If Rita was turned good, why would she need a new body? And if her plan is to time travel to before they became Rangers, do the Rangers travel through time to stop her? I legitimately don’t know anything about Rita past becoming good and I know the Power Rangers, have traveled through time due to Zedd or Rita sending them back but not like this. I started getting back into Power Rangers a handful of years ago with the Heroes of the Grid board game and I am unfamiliar with a lot of source material but slowly working my way through the series, and I’ve read Shattered Grid. So a lot of what I’m thinking is probably wrong but that’s what I’m thinking

Just a thought but when I first watched this I thought this is going to lead to a soft reboot. I think Rita's time machine could lead t going back in time to meet the rangers younger selfs - whom would need to be recast. This could in turn setup a Netflix Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series - which I for one would like to see if done right

I love this trailer. My nitpicks would be that Alpha is too tall, and the CG on the individual dinozords needed more time in the oven. Megazord looks awesome, though. The fact that they outright killed Trini on-screen was a big shock. I'm not saying it's bad, she goes out heroically, I'm just saying it took a while to process. I was expecting Trini to just be indisposed or to have passed away offscreen before the start of the special, but no, they took the kid gloves off. If it is supposed to be Trini under the helmet in that first fight, are we to gather Jason, Kimberly, and Tommy are as well? The thing that bugs me about the Green Ranger is that he didn't need to be there. If they knew they didn't have JDF they could have just focused on the original five. I would like to see Tommy's "torch" passed the same as Trini's, but since this was filmed before JDF's death that may not happen. We'll see.

I honestly don't mind the CGI Megazord. In fact, I kinda wonder if they intentionally make it look obviously computer generated so as to encourage the suspension of disbelief. They obviously didn't have the budget of a Marvel movie so they used stylized animation instead. I think back to the Ninja Megazord in from MMPR: The Movie and how it just looks horrendously dated, but I really feel like THIS Megazord's aesthetic will be just a little more timeless. For those of you who have ever played "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," it's a similar concept. Regardless of whether you love or hate the cel-shaded graphics, there's no point denying that it has allowed the game to endure because it's essentially impossible for those graphics to become "dated."

I have a theory that the reason why the Rangers are using the Mighty Morphin powers is because in season 3 of Mighty Morphin when the thunder zords got destroyed from the power surge that damage the original Morphers and coins as you can see in Power Rangers in space when Adam came back his Morpher was scarred so was the power coin therefore he still able to morph but the power is incredibly unstable so it was the Ninja Power coins that were destroyed not the originals so maybe they were able to repair the original Morphers and coins

Very hype trailer, I unfortunately don't think we're going to see an end to Tommy's character, bad timing od much of this beong done before the death of JDF, and them already doing a bit of a tribute to Trini. I have mixed feelings about 'Robo-Rita' we'll see how it's explained, but between time travel, and how Zedd's return was explained they might talk themselves through some fast and loose continuity jumbling. I wasn't much of a fan of Mystic Force, but I did like Rita's redemption, Mystic Mother story

Im excited to see how this all plays out, however I do have a couple of complaints. For one, the Zords were completely destroyed, so if they dont explain how they are back, or unless they are from the past, Its not going to feel right. If they arent from the past, Im hoping that they at least explain that Billy rebuilt them or something. Secondly, did Zack retire from the Omega Rangers? Its going to feel wrong if he doesnt at least hint to his Omega ranger past, lol.

With there being time travel involved could the person that's the Green ranger could be Tommy Oliver's son the ends up becoming the RPD Green ranger from the future and what they could do to explain why Tommy Oliver is not in this show is by making it for when he faces off against drakon in the comic books how it happened I don't remember if there's any other rangers other than the original Green ranger and that's comic but there is I don't remember that off top of my head at the moment
