My Jeep Wrangler is alive again! You get to see us drop the engine in but it doesn't go in as easy as it should. We still had a good time :-) . Watch and enjoy.

Dead blow hammer I used to drive the motor mount bolts in with. The great thing about this hammer is that is minimizes damage to whatever you are striking: amzn.to/1ojNHXY
I used to have one of these engine levelers. I loaned it out and it never came back. Very handy for situations like this! Here is the link: amzn.to/1rttvL0
I'm not going to recommend an engine puller. Why? There are too many cheaply built ones out there. If I can't see the quality first hand, I will not recommend. The one used in this video is obviously homemade. It's a heavy weight beast! It's also designed to hook to a trailer hitch and behind the truck if needed.

some of the excess wiring i didn't need f'ed me up a bit too.some for ac compressor that mine doesn't have lol 2 wires needed to be grounded to block and then key started no problem before that she was some how hot wired. Ill never trust buddy advice to not mark wires especially when 2 years later lol

Good video. Most don't go into the depth you have. One suggestion from someone who has done a lot of similar projects on CJs and YJs. Removing the fenders completely will make the project go so much easier. Another plus is checking for any rust in the mating surfaces and putting anti seize on the bolts for future ease of maintenance. I actually put a light coat on the mating surfaces.

jake Thanks! In part 1 I cut out a lot of stuff where I was going to pull the whole dog house. I started breaking bolts and didn't have time to drill and re-tap each one that was subject to breaking. I really wanted to catch all the details but I was actually kinda in a rush. I had my dads truck and wanted to get it back to him ASAP. He doesn't care but I don't like borrowing another persons stuff if I don't have too. The engine I pulled out is going to get rebuilt and probably stroked to 4.5 or 4.6. Hopefully I'll have my Mustang back on the road by the time I complete the engine rebuild. Then I can really detail the swap because I'll have another driver. I plan on YouTubing the engine rebuild also showing how to check clearances, crankshaft end play, valve/piston clearances .. etc. Thanks for checkout out the video and taking the time to leave a comment! Have a great day!

I enjoy your videos and would like to see the engine build. So much more real than most on here. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my garage but hope to start, very slowly in between the garage work, rebuilding one of my CJs. Lot's to do before I sleep. Getting darker by the minute. Oops, that might be New England winter! You too, enjoy.

jake Thanks man .. glad you like the videos. I know a fella thats got a CJ7 tub sitting behind his shop just sitting on barrels, the frame is in the weeds. Will not discuss selling it. But, hasnt worked on it in years. I've got a Dana 60 and a 14 bolt that would be nice under that. I need to dejunk my garage!! LOL .. Been parts shopping for the engine build, hope that the tax return nets enough return to spring for the parts soon. There never is enough daylight ... and sleep ... whats that????
@jake-hy2zb
@jake-hy2zb 9 жыл бұрын
We're on the same page. I've actually got two. Both will be done similar. 1st, CJ with YJ tub and frame I have. Stronger build. D44hd and 14 I have. Original 4.2 with ax15/D300, again have. This one a strong mall crawler to be sold to finance the 2nd. That one, same tub combo. D60/14. 465 with 203/205 doubler, SBC. Again have everything squirreled away except the doubler adapter. Know about the garage. Mine is an old barn, 2400 sq ft. The reason for the remodel. My oldest daughter says I can't die until it's cleaned out. I'll be 900 years old!! Know about the daylight/sleep too. One difference, it's below 0 here for a few days. Watch great videos and learn : ) Good luck with the projects. Die with a wrench in hand. No Slurpees, drooling in the corner for this guy.

Just did an engine swap on my YJ. Tried to do a test start and run at same place you did but mind seems dead in the water. Gauges come on but when I turn the key I get nothing lol... I am not a mechanic. No friends or family to help, I am thinking of have a mechanic come check it out for me in a week. I am betting it will be something I overlooked or something very simple.

There is a small wire that goes on the starter, possible that was left off. Also possible bad starter relay or fuse to the relay.

Did you swap a 4.0 wrangler engine for the 4.0 Cherokee engine. I have the 2.5 and I am wondering how hard would it be to swap it for the Cherokee 4. Any advice would be great. Great videos by the way.
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 9 жыл бұрын
Angel Reyes I have never personally done the 2.5 - to - 4.0 swap. From what I've read pull the harness, ecu and harness from the donor. Also you will need the trans from the donor. If you have a stick, the 4cyl comes with an AX5 trans, the 6cyl comes with an AX15 therefore different bolt patterns. If you pull from an automatic Cherokee, there is another ECU (besides the one that controls the engine) that controls the trans, be sure to get it. The harness' are super easy to pull, just don't cut anything (shouldn't have too). Do a search on the Jeep and Cherokee forums for more information. I know this isn't a detailed answer (I truly wish I could give more). It's a common swap, I've just never had the opportunity to do it yet. Hope this helps some at least. Glad you like the videos! Thanks for checking them out and taking the time to leave a comment :-) . Have a great day!

I have a 2000 wrangler sport 2.5, I,m thinking of making it 6 cylinder but I need to know if you had to change the wiring on your jeep. and if you did how did you do it..
@Poweraddicts

That swap is much more than just wiring. They have different frame mounts between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder models. I pulled a 6 and dropped in another 6 that was in better shape so I didnt have to do any modifications at all.

@Poweraddicts

Thanks. Ive had the engine hoist for many years. My dad got it from a friend of his. I don't know who he got it from. Its homemade, built from some heavy wall stuff! That thing is so heavy! I had to put a new jack on it a while back. It works great but bounces like crazy when you tow it somewhere. You gotta run the tire almost flat or it's like a pogo stick! LOL. Thanks for dropping in! Can you do a obd2 swap a Jeep yj?
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, it could be done. Only time I will ever do a OBD2 swap will be when I do an LS V8 swap. Otherwise it isnt worth the trouble or money. Besides OBD1 is a much much more simple system.

where did you find those mounts? and is it just to install them without welding and the 4,2l will fit?
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 7 жыл бұрын
Got them at either Autozone or O'Rielly Autoparts. The Jeep came out with a 4.0l. I just swapped in another 4.0l. There was no conversion of anything, just a swap of the same size motors.

mach1mustang1971 Huge thanks man! I have a lot fun doing these videos. My dad was laughing at me for the one I hope to release next week, it's an insert for the engine swap vids. I'm 43 and still acting like a kid!! As for the bed liner, it's actually holding up real well. I haven't tried it on flares. The grill is steel, so obviously doesn't flex. The flares being plastic/rubber, so I'm not sure how it would stick and flex in the event the flares were flexed. It would be worth testing because honestly it would look good on my flares matching the grill. I'm eventually doing all that "bling" going to black. When I get a chance I'll look around in the shop to find something that flexes to test it on. When I do I will let you know how it works. Might be able to save you a few bucks from buying the liner and it not working out. I get lots of great comments from friends, my dad and total strangers liking the way the grill looks. Thanks a bunch for being a fan and taking the the time to leave such great comments! Best of luck my Jeepin' brotha!!

mach1mustang1971 Hey .. update on the bed liner test. I used an old oil bottle to test spray with. It bonded decent enough to the super smooth plastic. I had to almost fold it over into a tight 180 to get cracks. So, on the flares with proper prepping before spraying should work fine. If you do any hard wheeling and dragging the flares against stuff, you may have to touch up, but that's easy enough. Thanks, it's on my to do list!

I've got a 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ swapping out the 4.2 to a 4.0. Not sure what the motor came out of, what year. Believe the motor to be from a Cherokee just not sure. I bought this project from someone else already doing this. On the 87 I believe it has an ignition module and has cam sensor on the hog head. Got motor and transmission together but the transmission does not have a place for the sensor. When I watched the video I noticed you didn't change any of the electrical so yours must of had the sensor on the hog head. My question is because possibly the distributor is different how do I wire it to start it? It still has they 87 wiring harness. Will I need to replace the ignition module, distributor, ect.? Would appreciate your help. Thanks Paul popext@hotmail.com
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 8 жыл бұрын
To simplify your install process you will need the wiring harness from a donor Jeep ... a YJ or early to mid 90's XJ Cherokee. You need to pull the ECM and all sensors attached and transfer them to the '87. ou will need the proper bellhousing to accept the crank position sensor. I dont know for sure if the bell housing will swap to you current transmission. In sort .. you need to buy a early - mid 90's YJ or XJ to get the rest of what you need to complete the process.
@resteasyzzz4429
@resteasyzzz4429 8 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you getting back with me I really do. Chuck I've enjoyed your videos tremendously, and you've got some great advise. And that's just what I thought, but since I can't get all of the sensors and the bellhousing (of course mines an automatic) I'm going to try to bypass that, by using a distributor with the sensor built in. Now as far as what I'm going to have to do to compensate when it comes to the ignition module and the computer, not quite sure yet. But the distributor would eliminate the need for the crankshaft sensor. Wish me luck! Oh and thanks for the tips on the coupons, saving is my middle name!!! lol. Thanks Paul
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 8 жыл бұрын
You welcome man! Glad you like the coupon video. I use it often!! Also glad the video s are helping you so much. If you are going to run the distributor there is a little gadget that may help you tremendously in converting that over. Its called Pertronix Ignitor. Its a magnetic trigger kit that replaces the factory electronics inside the dizzy. I ran one in my Mustang for many years. Dead simple to wire in and solid reliable.
@resteasyzzz4429
@resteasyzzz4429 8 жыл бұрын
Chuck will that replace the need for the crank shaft sensor? I'm asking a lot but is the ignition module still needed or once that is wired like you said in your video 3-4 wires and have it running. Can you tell me which wires I need to make this run with that in the distributor and will the coil wire still be going to the distributor? Appreciate your help or would I be better off to just get a transmission that has a crank shaft sensor location and stick with YJ ignition module and pcm or maybe even cut the a hole in the hog head? This is quit a challenge. All of your help is appreciated. Remember I'm working with a 87 YJ and not sure on the motor believed to be a Cherokee between 87-90
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 8 жыл бұрын
I've used this module a few times to convert points to solid state ignition. I was running it in my Mustang for several years. I swapped to a full GM style electronic ignition on the new engine. As long as you have an vacuum advance, you don't need an ignition module at all. No crank sensor, no cam sensor. Just install this module, crank and go. Here is a link to summit racing that "should be" for your dizzy. Before you order, call and confirm, I have gotten the wrong part a time or two through the site. www.summitracing.com/parts/pnx-1162a/overview/make/jeep
