Today I am sharing how to grow longer hair in 2018, or at least how I plan on doing it! I have already established a routine that helped me grow my hair long over the past few years, but I want to tweak it a bit to grow my hair longer and stronger.

I totally identify with crown issues. I have a "stress spot" on my crown area. Whenever I experience a lot of stress, I get breakage in that area. I started focusing on my crown; sectioning it off separately and using extra conditioner, massaging that area with JBCO, avoiding styles that put stress on my crown, etc. Now that area is growing back in nicely. I used to call my crown area, my "angry hair" because it's much more coarse than the rest of my hair, but now I appreciate my crown because my hair there is thicker and stronger than the rest of my hair. One if my resolutions is to embrace the different textures and characteristics of my hair. I find that my attitude towards my hair influences the way .i treat my hair and also influences my hair's overall health.

Hey sis. I love your channel and we have so much in common. I started to notice my crown was the same and I wanted to share that on my channel that I decided to take better care of it and use something more moisturizing on it with my followers as well. I wanted to suggest you don't try too many new products. I've noticed some other bloggers have set backs from it. I love all of the other resolutions. I stopped length checking over a year ago. I just concentrate on my hair care. I know it's growing, so . . . I do plan to have a cut-off length that I won't go beyond. I just want my ends to be full when I reach that length. I don't want it TOO long because I don't want to spend an inordinate amount of time on it. I have a life. LOL.

Gurrrl . . . I've even been avoiding KZbin for the past few months so I can relax about my hair. I watched for a good year or so, and learned so much from people like PowerInYourCurl. I have my own, personalized routine now, and I continue to fine tune it. In the year and-a-half since I've started my hair care journey (I did not have a relaxer, but my hair wasn't retaining growth like I wanted it to and stylists were applying way, WAY to much heat on my hair and I didn't even know it). I truly cannot believe how long my hair is getting so FAST.

What I really liked the best and the takeaway I got from your video is hair resolutions/goals do not have to be complicated. I absolutely love your simplistic approach and perspective. Although hair length is very important and desirable for many, it is not always attainable for many because of factors such as health challenges, medications, etc. I've seen some beautiful folks in the natural hair community who are rocking their baby fros/locks/dreads and that is awesome too. I think it is far more important to focus on being healthy in all aspects of life (mentally, physically, and spiritually) and yes, maintaining healthy hair regardless of the length or style you choose to rock. I am going to implement some of your resolutions into my routine as well (trims and being more gentle with my hair) this year. Thank you for sharing the great tips and keep us posted on your routine as you progress through your journey this year.

I agree, that seeing women and men embrace what is naturally their's and rocking it no matter the length is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Also, to your point about simplicity.. I used to make these involved, complicated regimen's and found I never stuck to them because they were just too much lol. Keeping it simple and consistently instituting good hair habits has been the easiest and best thing for me. I hope you have a great day!

Thank you for mentioning the crown area. Two lines of products that I have recently tried for the first time (if you have not tried them yet) are the the High porosity Intensive Moisture masque and the Manuka Honey & Mufura oil lines from Shea Moisture. The masque is insanely moisturizing! Love your videos, thanks for the inspiration!

Long comment warning* I have the same crown issue and I used to separate the hair at the crown and moisturize it before I went to bed, apply oil and went to bed. I noticed after a few weeks the hair in that area was completely different. I stopped (lazy) and when I cut my hair, I went back to doing it and again see the results. The second thing is that I cut my hair all off about 5 months ago and it has been growing so fast and I realize why. Its because my hair gets wet everyday to revive my short hair. Since water is moisture I am positive that it is growing because it isn't breaking. My hair is fine so you know if someone whispers "break" my hair will do just that. Long story short I will continue to baby my crown and wet my hair everyday.

First off you look beautiful! You gave great advice. And I see your eyebrows have thickened up! They look bomb!! My hair resolutions are to wash once a week as well (but I was washing every 3-4 days smh scalp got so dry) and to get my curly hair to mid back/bra strap length. I can tell leaving hair color alone and not doing a lot of heat that it’s really helping. I want to do more protective styles instead of wash and gos as well. I also realize I like blow outs and I don’t like the flat iron look either so I don’t plan on straightening mine either! I also have dryness in the front and top so I guess that’s what you mean by the crown and need all the tips!

My resolutions 1. Finger detangle more 2. Use wide tooth combs as needed 3. Wash my hair every month 4. Deep condition more 5. Do low manipulation or long lasting styles (3weeks) or more depending on style 6. Stay away from heat 90% the time. 7. Use more natural, less chemical items 8. Don't trim so often.. I choose every 6-9 months 9. Be gentle with my hair. The list go's on, this is just some I believe my hair grows 4.5 inches every 6 months. Im one year and a half post Bc.

I call my crown “corpse hair” lol. I just found out that it LOVES aloe vera juice as a leave-in. The moisture retention is off the charts.

Great resolutions, I've actually done the same. More regular deep conditioning every wash day! Focus on retaining length by using heatless styling, protective styling and reduced flat ironing. I only do it once monthly but I'm stretching out that timing. Please do tutorial on heatless waves. Yours looks great!

Yes I have similar goals for 2018. The crown of my hair is the most fragile as well so I have to treat it differently, otherwise it is holding up very well with my current regimine.

Mines are something similar for my hair care for 2018 because over the years I have learned more about my hair the texture what it likes what it dislikes and I was thinking about making a video on that I'm not sure yet so if I do it maybe sometime in February I'm not sure because I have a couple more videos prepared to post but for one just keeping my scalp healthy and also just using products that just works best for my hair and being consistent at using these products I've already added more Co washing to my hair care which worked really well in my hair care pray poem I only do that at least twice every 6 weeks, but most of the time I Am Co washing well up until 9 weeks because that's when my hair tends to get buildup on it from the products and I've learned that as well shampoo tends to dry my hair so I stopped using shampoo the only time I do you shampoo is when I get build-up and I would use a clarifying shampoo from Shea moistures or my moisturizing shampoo from Creme of Nature and then I'll just go right back to co washing but I've done a lot of research far as my hair I've also started listening to my hair paying close attention to my hair and everything is going well the crown of my head was all so dry and brittle now it is about 10 inches long I praise God for that so it took me awhile but I got it together thank you so much God bless you🌹🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🙏

How do you feel about wearing flexi rods overnight? I've realized that it makes my scalp (along with many other naturals) feel sore ... do you think this could effect hair growth or follicles ?

AsiaFromNewYork hi , what I've learned is that if a style is causing pain then yes it can either be to tight and you may need to loosen the rollers because it will eventually cause breakages... hope this helps...

I don't use flexi rods but when I sleep with Curlformers I don't like to put the roller to close to my scalp because I feel that it pulls at my roots and makes my head hurt. I think it's possible that the tension caused by rollers can negatively effect your hair follicles - kind of like how tension hair styles can cause traction alopecia. maybe twisting the roots and then securing the rod 1 - 2 inches away from your scalp would help.

Love your resolutions!! I’m def going to put less heat in my hair this year (even though I only put direct heat in my hair once a year😂) and dust my ends in between my three month trims. I’m thinking of trying out wigs as protective styles too! Switch it up a bit😆

One of my resolutions is to plan my wash days ahead of time. I usually wait until I just can't stand my hair and then I decide to wash it at like 6pm. I rush because I'm supposed to be making dinner, not washing my hair and I end up being impatient and not gentle enough.

I want to continue with no heat. I made a year without it on the 7th and my hair is so much healthier. I will straighten it again just not any time soon bc I don’t have time. I too want to not focus so much on length but it’s hard especially if you want to know what you’re doing to your hair is right. I’m going to take a picture of my hair now and try not to check the length until next year. I’m at BSL right now and I’m hoping that I’ll be at MBL by next year

I don't think I want to straighten my hair for the rest of 2018. I flat ironed January 1st and that was the 1st time in 1 yr and 7 mths. I didn't like it at all it was just nice to see my length and get a good trim.

I know that you use Mielle Organics Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner as a protein treatment. Have you ever used the 2 step aphogee protein treatment? If so, which do you think is better?

I have used the Aphogee 2-Step Treatment and feel that the product is for very damaged hair and it is not meant to be used every week like a typical, less intense deep conditioner. It made a small difference in my hair when it was constantly breaking but just trimming the damage out and deep conditioning regularly with moisturizing/protein deep conditioners worked better.

Wow your hair looks so different... I can see it's tottaly health... I'm experiencing lenght in my hair too and I see it's going more and more health day by day... I learn so much from you, thanks... It has been very dificult to not to cut my hair, because here in Brazil people still are mentaly racist and colonialist... also the fact that I'm a man make everything more dificult because of machism (a man can't let his hair grow, and if he is black, no way!!)... anyway, to let my hair grown has teached much about me and other people... Hey Loren! I will be showing how I did this style in my next video. I should have specified in the video, but I did use direct heat to achieve the blown out look and then braided my hair overnight for the heatless waves portion. If you do large braids on stretched hair you can get a similar effect! (I may do a video on this in the future so you can visually see the process)

Also you said to get trims regularly and don't wait to long, but you intend to go 1 1/2 years without straightening your hair. How do you trim it without straightening it?

I usually twist my hair wet and then air dry. For the style in this video, I blow dried my hair and then slept in a braid over night. I show the full process on my two most recent videos!

So I finally found someone with low porosity, fine hair! What do you think about buns for protective styling? I usually put some aloe vera gel (Fruit of the Earth) to get a slicker look after using the LCO method. Is that okay, or do you think the gel will cause breakage? Thank you.

Hey, it is all up to what works for your hair! Do you notice breakage when using the Aloe Vera Gel or when you take down your bun protective style? I personally don't like buns as protective styles because they encourage tangles at the nape of my neck and my crown, and when I detangle after bunning for more than 3 days I do experience breakage. I also do not use aloe vera gel on my hair because it doesn't do anything for my hair. Everyone's hair is different so it is all up to how your hair responds to these techniques 😊

Hey Bre, when I deep condition with my hard bonnet dryer I consider that indirect heat so I won't be limiting that in my routine. I will actually be increasing my use of the bonnet dryer because I always deep condition with heat for maximum penetration and will be deep conditioning more often this year.

I am beginning to feel like oils are more important than conditioners. What do you think? I still deep condition after every shampoo and co-wash, but I have seen astounding results since my journey began, i.e., I started using oils. I never experienced that with ANY conditioner.
