The scariest thing I've ever been in is an early 90's full cage mustang with a "twin" turbo 347. That thing put 1100 to the wheels on a bad day and I'm lucky to be here to tell you that kind of power has no place on the street! That car was just plain stupid powerful and ran 8.50's in the 1/4 mile. I can't remember the MPH, I just remember my fear factor every-time I got into that thing.... That car honestly scared the hell out of me!
@Resistculturaldecline4 ай бұрын
600hp to the wheels in a fox body is rowdy on the street, assuming it still retains the chassis & suspension to be a nice driver and isn't predominantly a cantankerous track car. Such a setup on 295 drag radials won't hook up on every pavement surface until up into 3rd gear (3.73 rear gears). I think a lot of guys theorize and imagine how much excess they need and get carried away. Above the level I described, a 3200lbs Fox is really beginning to try to hurt you if some wise restraint isn't exercised. Busting tires loose at 60 mph can go bad really quickly
@Finite-Tuning4 ай бұрын
@@Resistculturaldecline: I don't remember the exact tire anymore, but skinnies up front and 10" in the rear. It was a built car, full cage, K member, frame connected, QA1 coilovers, ect. But yes, 3rd gear 60mph that thing just loved to go sideways! On the strip it would leave on 2 wheels, but on the street it always seemed like it was wearing 2 pairs of roller skates. It was a cool car, just friggin scary.
@Resistculturaldecline4 ай бұрын
@@Finite-Tuning Sounds like probably a 275 tire, which isn't even beginning to hold back 1000+ hp, not even close. Like putting a bicycle tire on the rear of a Japanese sport bike

The cracks in the stock blocks actually develop opposite from what he said. They start at the mains and work up to the valleys before performing an impression of a banana split. Thats why the valley girdles developed for these blocks don't do jack.

Another combo probably worth noting being a dart block was sourced out is the use of the 4.125" bore block with the same deck height as this one and the use of a 3.250" crank coming out to the same ci at 347. Being the engine is an air pump getting airflow in and out of the engine is paramount. By using the bigger bore block you can utilize a bigger valve in the head making for easier airflow for the turbo to build HP. The shorter stroke makes high-rpm easier to get a better HP number up high. With the top-notch valve train components used in this engine, high-rpm, excluding the cam and rollers this motor should make it's goal of 1200-1250 HP at the crank.
@davidrogers52194 жыл бұрын
4.125" bore block with a 3.250" stroke and a 5.40" rod length as a lot less rod angle also. Less piston to cylinder wall wear. A lot better way of getting the same cubic inches out of a 8.20" deck height 302 block. And it pretty much cost the same.

The one single that I love about my V8 Henry's is that the first rebuild is on ford, due to the gudgeon pin offset the factory built into those magnificent motors. This offset allows for the pistons dwell point can be moved from after 0 degrees crank relative position, to a few degrees before 0 degrees indicated. This started the power stroke early also apearing to be a buffer to pingings negative effects whilst utilising the violent increase in combustion chamber pressure as an increase in total torque production . Camshaft valve timing events require recalculation due to change in piston dwell.

I mean...not hitting the number you were after is not a big deal when we are talking about missing it by 50 HP and TQ or somewhere around there. But Pat said he was looking for 1,000 HP AT THE WHEELS in his '63 Galaxie, so they were missing their desired number by about...THREE HUNDRED HORSEPOWER! They either had absolutely no idea what this kind of build would make and were just throwing out random dream numbers or something is seriously wrong with this build because that car is going to end up making AT BEST 700 at the wheels. Obviously that is nothing to sneeze at, but again, missing your number by at least 300 HP is a pretty significant miscalculation and the viewers (at least THIS viewer) would love to know why.

@@bigboreracing356 true. Not many think about longevity. This engine will not only put out consistent 800hp, but it will do it for YEARS.

That 118 lsa and low compression is hurting the peak numbers. Both old school theories. At 10lbs of boost it barely made more power than the N/A version.

Is it just me or did this thing fall around 400 hp short of the money spent? Makes a great case for an LS though if that was your intention.

That crank has grooves on the journals probably from the original block not being align honed with girdle bolted on and the main seal is not Teflon.

Back in 1983, I had a Boss 351 that had around 425 HP and spun a clean 8,200 RPMs. Could you build a Cleveland style engine with same style heads, same bore and stroke, and similar compression of 11.7:1, but no less that 11:1 putting out 500 HP and spinning a clean 8,200 RPMs for a canyon running engine that would rival a Ferrari V12? Naturally aspirated, but could have a fuel injection system without rails.

Dandy Engines has a 2,000 hp Windsor block, Cleveland style alum head engine makes 2,500 hp, just did a 6 on 8 inch drag radials.

Nice. 500 HP is more than enough. It’s the 8,200 RPMs that matter.
@wysetech20004 жыл бұрын
Douglas Hine There is no way a Cleveland would spin at 8200 rpm without serious mods. Those heads won't fit on a Cleveland. I had a built Boss 302 that wouldn't spin that high. I suggest you go back and watch Sesame Street

4.125" bore block with a 3.250" stroke and a 5.40" rod length as a lot less rod angle also. Less piston to cylinder wall wear. A lot better way of getting the same cubic inches out of a 8.20" deck height 302 block. And it pretty much cost the same

What about the Kaase P38 heads? They have canted valves like a Cleveland for better breathing and use standard manifolds to make it easy to find the right intake and headers for your build. I'm looking at those for my project car, if I can get it off the ground! And I like the adjustability of the boost! Mount something on the dash and.....

I spent a ton of money building a 347 years ago for a Fox body mustang and I would never do it again. Don’t get me wrong it made big power and I absolutely love how small block fords sound they are the best sounding engine in my opinion but when you can buy a 5.3 Chevy now for a few hundred bucks and slam a turbo on it and run in the 10’s easily ur stupid to waste the money on a stroker. When you blow up the 5.3 because you ran too much boost you go to the junkyard and buy another 5.3 for a few hundred. The 5.3 already had aluminum heads with decent size valves.
@TwentytenS4B83 жыл бұрын
Don't need a stroker to make big numbers. A 351W with the AFR heads, a cam and intake that matches the flow of the heads and you're at 500HP easily. The guys on Engine Masters proved that. And the best part is you spent a fraction of what you would building a 347 and you still have more cubic inches and didn't have to specially clearance the block for stroker cranks etc.
@peanutbutterisfu3 жыл бұрын
@@TwentytenS4B8 your kinda missing my point… I’m talking about a stock 5.3 engine you can make big power without spending 2,000-2500 on heads plus everything else and it’s a stronger block than a production Ford block.
