This is what I love about Tommy. Doesn't matter if you're a total noob or an expert, the moment he starts playing all judgement goes out the window and you just watch with a big smile on your face. True entertainer that exists entirely outside the snobbery that comes with celebrity.

i’m so happy for you that you have discovered Tommy! As you say, he is beyond words. I’ve seen him in concert now 8 times and they’re ALWAYS top-notch performances. He likes to play small venues as well as large venues. He plays about 300 concerts a year around the world. If you haven’t heard his “Classical Gas” yet that is a must see, it really put him on the charts years ago. I’ll go get the link and edit this comment for insertion, he has many renditions of it out on KZbin but this one is by far the best. I try to get reactors to react to him but very few have heard of him so they blow me off. Now you can see why I am so eager for them to have “the Tommy Experience” 😊. Tommy got his first guitar at 4, started touring with his family at 6. He is self taught, doesn't read music. He had a brother (Phil, now deceased) who was equally as good. There are a few clips of Tommy and Phil which are well worth reacting to. Tommy is arguably one of, if not the best acoustic guitarist at this time.

Saw Tommy at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney Australia some time back, maybe 2006 around there, one man one guitar literally filled the venue with a huge sound. Was a sight and sound to behold, and he's a nice bloke too.

In the early 1980s, Tommy was in a band named Goldrush, and they played in a pub across the road from where I was living. Even then, Tommy was blowing minds. But in Goldrush, he more often than not played drums, as his older brother Phil 'The Wiz' was the # 1 pick, if you can believe it. Playing together, they were untouchable, saw them blow Roy Buchanan off the stage one night. Phil passed away a few years ago. Tommy is likely the best steel-string acoustic guitar player on Earth, but do check out his electric stuff too, where he casually kills it.

Certainly one of Australia's greatest talent exports ever, and a very good man. Thanks for watching it. A funny side story - we lived in Parkes in the late 60's and my brother, Phil, was in Tommy's class at school. He went back to his place one day and Tommy offered him to teach him the guitar - Phil turned him down. We haven't let him forget that for the last 55 years. Check out 'Tommy Emmanuel CAAS 2009'. A whole catalog of his styles. Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were good but there are different levels! Tommy is the most rounded and just the best I have ever seen!

Much respect to Roy, but Tommy's on a whole other level..What he does on an acoustic guitar (no less!) doesn't even make sense! Acoustic is WAY harder than electric. To make every note ring out clearly on an acoustic, and at the velocity that which he plays it is other-worldly!..If you get a chance, watch him play "Somewhere, Over The Rainbow" for the late Les Paul. Paul's favorite song..One of the greatest things I've ever seen!..Absolutely beautiful!
