Pride of Lions take on a Massive Buffalo

The Marsh Pride are a well know family of lions from Kenya's Masai Mara reserve. They are no strangers when it comes to taking on bigger prey, and with so many mouths to feed, they went for bust with this buffalo. After chasing a small group of male buffalos around for a while, they eventually singled this chap out and moved in.
No buffalo ever goes down easily, especially not such a huge male, and this was no exception. He put up a wonderful fight against a whole lot of lions, but eventually numbers and fatigue got the better of him.

3:40 I have heard this is a common Lion tactic, to bite the nose of their prey, stopping them from breathing and also making them drown on their own blood. This lions all look quite young to me.

Basically they try suffocate it from the front and disable it from the back. Solid tactic. The pride does have a lot of younger lions in it.

Looks like a older dagga boy, by the grey silver lines on his head and around his eyes, they live the last of their years alone or in small groups, if I am not mistaken. First bull in the video was a giant. Do you see a lot of encounters between eland and lions or hyenas?

Correct on the buffalo. Not very often. I have seen occasionally, but eland are very alert characters.

He should have stayed with the other buffalo's. The lions wouldn't have been able to take any of them down as they would've helped one another. He put up a good fight and he may have made it if the other buffalo's had come back or the lions had given up. At the end of the day it's survival of the fittest. Excellent video!
