Since you deal with fish on a regular basis , I figured I would ask your opinion. I have a 29 tall tank and was thinking about getting a breeding pair of apistogramma cacatuoides triple red and a breeding pair of apistogramma borelli for that tank. I your opinion, is that too small? Also, would the fish in this video make good tank mate for these kind of fish or are they too small and would just become lunch? I'm they are too small, could you recommend tank mates that would be suitable (if any)? I would like to have at least one type of fish for each layer of the water column (top water, mid water, and bottom swimmers) if possible and no jumpers but if all top waters are jumpers I have a top just in case.

I keep a species specific tank with _Boraras brigittae_ or better known as the Chili Rasbora. If you plan on breeding them, I have a few suggestions. 1. Around the springtime, increase/maintain a water temperature of 77°F+. They need the warmer water to induce spawning. 2. Add Catappa leaves for the tannins and softening of the water. The tannins are important folks. 3. The inclusion of live or frozen live food definitely stimulates the breeding response. Live is preferable but frozen/live foods will suffice. 4. Reduce or at least be wary of the strength of water flowing throughout the tank. Too strong of a current and they will not breed. I place a sponge over the pump outlet and basically rely on the micro-bubbles produced from a single air stone. 5. Not all, but some of your Chili's will predate on their fry so please be aware. Lastly - *_be patient._* Like Jason had previously stated. These fish are not easy for beginners to breed. In fact, I never intended on breeding _any_ of my fish but Nature always finds a way! Some of them (like my CPD's) breed year-round which can be both a blessing and a curse. Just prepare for a modicum of frustration if you intend on breeding _Boraras brigittae_ ladies and gentlemen. Stay classy my friends.

Love my chili’s. I have about 15 with my cpd’s as well. It’s funny because when I kept them years ago they were shy and would always hide in the back in the plants but these that I have now I would not call shy at all. They swim all over in their aquarium. No big threatening fish in either past or present tank. Your fish and plants are beautiful

Hi Jason - I ordered my 24 Green Kubotai Rasboras after asking if you treated your high pH to keep these fish. We have the same water parameters - 8.2 pH w/ similar KH and GH. I ordered 24 and received them Wednesday and spent over an hour slowly acclimating them to my tank water by adding 1/2 cup tank water to their bag every 4 minutes until the bag was full, dumping out half of the water and adding 1/2 c back using the same process. My ammonia and nitrites and at zero, nitrates 10ppm. I've lost 1/2 of the fish. LiveAquaria suggested I put 1ml of lemon juice into the 16 gal tank and that I order some Fluval Peat pellets to lower the pH. I thought everything would be fine. I'm hoping the remaining fish adjust and in the future stick to live bearers and other fish that like higher pH. I just don't know what I did wrong. Any ideas?
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics Жыл бұрын
It could depend on how there fish were kept? What were the water parameters they were keeping the fish in? Also, I don’t drip acclimate gosh because it can cause ammonia spikes in the bag. Hopefully, the rest adjust ok.
@janetstarr10
@janetstarr10 Жыл бұрын
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Lost all but one. I've seen so many ways to acclimate and did watch your video about ammonia, pH, and carbon dioxide and how it changes as soon as the bag is opened. I followed their instructions to the T. Should have listened to you and acclimated them to the water temp, strained the bag water out and dumped them in the tank. I guess I have to stick w/ live bearers that like high pH. Checked my numbers again today. Perfect. The one poor fish must be swimming around wondering where all his buddies went. I hate it.

How many would you recommend in a 20 gallon long with 9 green neons, a mystery snail and about 30 shrimp? My nitrates are in the 20s at most (right before a water change). I do water changes once a week, but can sneak an extra one mid week if needed. Thanks!

Just due to my tiny apartment size, I have a 10 gallon kit. I have kinda gone retro with an UGF, paired with a small HOB filter. Is the HOB style filter a threat to the chilis? Becasue they are small. I could screen or put a sponge on it I guess. i've read that they dont like a strong current or strong lighting, so my tank has a slightly darker corner, more heavily planted and out of the way of the outflow of the filter, however ever since i've got them they've been "playing" in the current of the filter (even jumping up in it where i had to rescue them out of the filter before i put a sponge in there to prevent it from happening again) in the more lit part of the tank. Does anyone know of this is normal behaviour or should i look for something bothering them? They eat well, are very lively and do group together nicely (except for 1 fish who always seems to loose the group)

Hi Jason, I know this video was a year ago but I’m wondering if I can keep them with pea puffers? I tried to keep my puffer with guppies but when it comes to feeding time, the puffer gets nothing 😂 Will the rasboras take all the food before my puffer gets access to it? Thanks!

They don't eat nearly as fast as guppies - probably a better match!

I put white cloud mountain minnows in with my betta, and set the tempreature to 24°c. I added air bubbles to keep the betta more chilled. He didn't mind sharing with the white clouds at all, and they've now become my favorite nano fish, lol

No I don't believe so. They may eat some babies, but I've had mine with some painted fire reds for almost a year and the shrimp and rasbora population has totally exploded. They even like to eat the little bits of food that get thrown around when the shrimp are eating . So while it's possible, it's rare enough that I've never seen it with my own eyes, and my shrimp numbers are going up. They're smaller than the adult shrimp
