Just in case anybody noticed, or asked, the rubber ring sticking out from the sides of the nose tires is a debris deflector that prevents things like sand and dirt from being kicked up by the nose tires and sent it into the engines.

Thank you for showing the lading gear. That is nice when the aircraft is placed on jackets high enough to see the landing gear go up and down. Yes of the main lading gear the right does seem slow. But maintenance guys and now you know that the gear does operate faster in general. Yeah, we are to busy being inside of course. Thank you for showing this beautiful aircraft .

Thanks for the added bit about the engine driven hydraulics. So it is more of a functional check that the hydraulic systems are intact after maintenance and not leaking and perform a cycle correctly..might be interesting to see the gear down and locked switch (lol or the cost) and maybe another hawker going wheels up to compare. Love the tech tuesdays! Dinner on me for you and your crew if you ever make it to Hampton Roads area.

Hi Shaun. Thanks for showing this to us. I find it very interesting. I notice the asymmetry in the movement of the main gear. Can you feel that at all in the handling during that period? Also I noticed a small spoiler ahead of the flaps. Can that be deployed separately? Best regards and keep up the good work.

After seeing that, and then hearing it's faster when the system is being run off the engines, I even more want to see footage from a camera mounted under the plane. I'm sure there is a myriad of reasons you can't externally mount cameras on the planes, but I still cross my fingers that it can happen one day.

With the right gear being the last one to come up, do you notice any drag or at least a slight imbalance in the trim when the gear is in transition? Or is one of those things that your muscle memory just counters and you just trim it out without even realising that you are doing it?
@waldoinaz
@waldoinaz 3 жыл бұрын
Question Shaun...in the event that your mains aren’t dropping in unison, does it impact the flight characteristics of the aircraft? I’d imagine the drag created by one side being deployed quicker than the other might cause a little yaw.

Despite the comments at the end, the starboard door sequence valve probably needs adjusting. Gear movement should be close together port & starboard. Wouldn't have accepted that when I was a jet engineer,
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101

Its fine. Actually that plane does quite well with the "pump on a stick". There is actually a maintenance note in the manuals that using this set up the gear may lag so much that the gear may even fall and touch the door under these curcumstances. Even with a full pressure external mule the Hawker gear are rarely in perfect sync.

people fail to understand fluidic systems in general. increased volume thru a constant restriction = increased pressure. it isn't "pressure" you're going after- it's flow (volume).

@geoffeg
@geoffeg 3 жыл бұрын
If it's anything like the plane I fly (Piper Arrow), there is one hydraulic pump for the entire gear system (although I assume the Hawker has a backup pump). As each individual gear comes up, it changes the balance of pressure in the system, which kinda causes that gear to pause while the other ones balance out the pressure. (I hope that made sense). I assume the nose drops at a different rate due to a different design than the mains.
@vetterfellow
@vetterfellow 3 жыл бұрын
@@geoffeg I bought it !!!!. If they all dropped at the same time with the same force as the nose gear, that would shake the plane something fierce. Also the length from the pump to the farthest gear would be last to complete it's function.

They are doing the ops checks with an electric motor driving one engine pump. In flight both hydraulic pumps operate and put out much more flow and pressure. In those circumstances the gear, including the nose, is much faster and much more in sync.
