I think part of the issue that seems to be ignored is money. When I was traveling to tournaments, I didn't do anything in the cities are traveled to because I was broke. The only real opportunity I had to do something exciting was the event. Otherwise I had to share a room with 5 people and we went to grocery stores to get supplies for ham sandwiches to get by. Mind you I still value the experiences I had, but if ask me to go somewhere while I was already 400 plus in the whole to get to a regional and compete I'd tell you to see me in Skullgirls. I don't know too many jobs where you can front load your work and study fighting games during work hours. I don't disagree with you for the most part, but if you factor in how much money it cost to do this stuff it's pretty clear how you fall into these traps.

Fighting games taught me how I learn as a person because it forced me to evaluate niche situations that I had to solve. This has built a universal ladder for me that allows me to transfer that learning method to other skills in my life. I think fighting games teach you a lot about yourself actually.

3:00 People still gp through this arc when they go to their first local after grinding online. That was me lmao. You get a high rank and think you can tear ish up and you get smacked up in person lmaoo

People who play in tournament are better than people online
@GriFFonRec46 ай бұрын
Yeah but that's usually just nerves. There are people who win majors after only playing online. You generally know where you stand in the pecking order. Imagine trying to go to a melee tournament before know smash boards existed. You literally get mopped by a guy wave dashing and you assume he's bad because he's not spamming roll all the time. I mean, I guess if you played online and literally got to rank 1, it might make sense, but getting a "high rank" doesn't equate to I think I can win my local because even online there are obviously better players than yourself... not to mention the twitch streamers you watch and such. When you are in middle school and you literally ONLY win, and it's not even close, you have a sense of pride and you assume you'll do some damage only to get 0-2ed. That shit actually breaks people (haha me).

Idom consistently wins my local lol. Great video great reactions, subbed. Edit - I definitely think properly training is something that can come out of learning games. After I learned starcraft 2 my first competitive game, I literally took tools it gave me to the gym and the kitchen and lost a lot of weight.

To the few locals I been too, I basically stopped going to them cause I hate talking to people. Like I sacrificed a community to learn from, a homie who would offer to drive me 35 mins out, just cause my social anxiety and autism too strong. Like I did engage in it as just go there, go 2-2 and just wait to go home. The local could be better, but I’m not built for offline events. Only sad part about this for me is that it leaves me with just ranked or Netplay and I hate that. So I’ve stopped playing fighting games online like when I was grinding season 1-2 in Strive.

If you’re not great with dealing with people, don’t do something that makes u deal with people. It’s like choosing to play football even though you’re worried about how people think about you on the field.
@tragicblvd8 ай бұрын
@@erno6155 I mean yeah, it just sucks though cause it seems like getting better at Fighting Games might only be through dealing with people. I’m trying to optimize around that, but ranked is so destructive, and I’m like the least competitive person. People just toxic online, and it’s hard to learn from. as a person who used to play football, I was more concerned about how people viewed me in basketball lol. Less people on the play. But yeah it’s an unnecessary to focus on that in the moment. But it’s not about performing. It’s just socializing. It ruins me to talk to so many people.

This is great that that reaction is posted separately, thank you! If possible, post other two similar reactions to "how to become an e-sportsman" (or something like that, also smthg like fgc esport dream is dead) if not yet, a ton of useful added information

3:15 Yeah that shit broke me. Thought I was hot shit, went 0-2 at my first melee tournament and lost every ounce of confidence I ever owned. I just gave up lol. Pretty sure that was the last time that COULD happen with the advent of YT and stuff like that (I mean now we have twitch and stuff but getting washed before knowing the existence of smash boards hits different). Now you just know, you didn't have to bet all your self confidence and pride only to walk away a beaten dog never the same again. I'm still feeling ripples from that. Now I'm an overall super pessimistic person, and I swear it stems back to that moment. When I was in elementary school I was the goat. 3rd fastest runner in school while being friends with the top 2. Competed with the smart tomboy girl in how fast we could complete our math quizzes. Overall felt comfortable enough to talk to anyone at any time. Middle school comes and I randomly get rejected by a girl I sat behind because I was talking to her (only for her to join my friend group the next year and shag my best friend). I failed my first class and that changed how smart I viewed myself forever. And then the 0-2 smash tournament at the mall. It's been downhill since, I literally peaked in elementary school.

It's fascinating to me to hear about the problems people have with modern fighting games. I got into the fgc about 2 years ago but all i play is Street Fighter 2 (CE HF ST). I feel like i am deeling with a much different set of problems than people playing modern games. Virtually everyone I go up against has been playing the game for 20 years and is a stone cold killer. I have to struggle to be in the middle of the pack. I wonder how well I would do if I picked up a modern game.
