I have a dumpster that's included with my rent, but when I get a lot of waste I'll take it to the dump. Usually $20-$40 for a full trailer.

7:36 That’s the ripcord, big ass cables like that sometimes have a kind of indentation in the jacket that if you cut into allows you to strip off the outer jacket easily by just pulling the ripcord. It’s usually made of heavy duty material like Kevlar reinforced plastic or rubber

We us that exact 1/0 cable on mixer drive motors for concrete batch plants, curious if it came off of one of ours. Maybe about once every other month I get a work order to replace all the cords from a plant that has had them stolen and it aint cheap (very often in the Chicago area, shocker).

for solid wire if i was doing your volume then i would need to stop doing it by hand but say a barrel at a time 12/14 and romex a vise and a razorblade and a knife with grooves it will peel it all out like butter without digging into the wire if you put tension on it till it thins down the kinks then long lengths work better with the multi wire i would normally pick one to pull on to tear the insulation as it comes out if you go down to phone wire then you need to use a bolt (micro scrapping) but i stopped hording a copper collection cause everybody considers it stolen now

Looks good man. In looking at your wrap-up paperwork showing the profit numbers, I noticed you do not have fuel costs listed. From a cost accounting point of view, there are actually two fuel costs to consider. First one is the round trip fuel cost of going to the job site and back to the shop. Maybe you picked up that wire from assorted jobs, not sure. Second fuel cost is the round trip to Miami and back. Since fuel costs have gone up over the couple of years, it prolly should be deducted from the bottom line for a more accurate ROI number. Since you know exactly the round trip mileage to Miami and back, figuring out that fuel cost should be fairly easy and just add it as a standard deduction when you do your wrap-up calculations. Whether you want to add the round trip fuel cost of going to the job site for picking up material is up to you. Just my opinion on these two fuel costs. Still, very nice ROI per hour when you strip it, fuel costs added or not.

@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Жыл бұрын
I get that and there would be more costs involved as well. It came in with a hole bunch of other scrap and was sold with other scrap. I was just showing what the recovery is and what you could make an hour processing. People would not have the same cost as me so its more of a what's it worth video.
@silverlicious2086
@silverlicious2086 Жыл бұрын
I didn't know you meant "recovery" as in a vacuum without all other costs. Makes sense as in how you described it in your reply to me. I'm a pretty detailed kind of guy, so sometimes stuff goes right over my head. I almost said "don't forget to include the cost of those delicious steaks on the grill" 🤣🤣

Why is the wire considered #2 even after stripping it. I would think it is just bare bright #1 after stripping it.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Жыл бұрын
They say the strains are too thin. Any extension cord, welding cable, or SO cable like what I stripped is considered #2 copper or #2 insulated if sold as is.
@Swishersweetcigarilo

My yard considers it #2 if it has a silver colored coating also. I think it's tin. Or sometimes there is a reddish coating on it they classify as #2 that are put on motors.

I finally bought some real battery jumper cables from Napa 44 bucks but they're a hundred times better than the copper clad steel ones everybody sells. If I made some probably some nice wire attached to some cheap vice grips (4). The sides plastic dipped red / black according to polarity, avoiding the threads and grind the teeth smooth. 10.00 jumper cables

@@ScrapFatherScrapSon I haven't scrapped since my father passed 25 years ago. I'd bring the scraps home and he sit in the carport cleaning it all up all day long.
