If I HAD to choose a con it would be that they can slip through every little nook. I’ve had to full blown build a Great Wall of China around one of my sofas and desk because one of my buns kept slipping through the TINIEST crack 😂

However - another pro would be their poop is so clean. I had a dog before and cause of my OCD I had to give her back to the rescue because the poo was too much to deal with. There’s a risk of disease and also worms. Bunnies poop is so clean and just condensed balls of hay it’s amazing! It’s the perfect thing for me having to deal with such tiny poops

Sorry I’ve just thought of ANOTHER PRO. This is very specific but basically I struggle with my mental health massively and have 3 disorders. I am also on an autism waiting list because my therapist thinks I have autism. He has allowed my bunnies to be my Emotional Support Pets due to the improvement they’ve given me with my mental health. They’re making me be so creative. I struggle with anger issues and I tend to react very badly to situations and lose my control. However my bunnies have changed me. I felt angry at my mum over the phone the other day and instead of letting it get worse my little Bunny Belle was just sat there giving me her beautiful cute face and I dashed over and she just gave me kisses and I felt so happy. The turn around was amazing and I haven’t been angry in ages because of it. I’ve tried alsorts but these little sweethearts are the true anger management. I’m finding I’m not arguing with people either and I’m being a lot friendlier to strangers. I can’t believe how much they’ve changed me I feel like they’re my babies and I love them so much ❤️

Hi Lorelei! I have a question. My brother has two bunnies that I see a lot. They are in a x pen right now. I want to free roam them in a room, but there are no doors and I’m not sure if we should get gates or no. What should I do? Thank you :)

Your bunny isn't a dog. The are prey, and at the bottom of the food chain. Which means you have to earn their love. You have to spend time with them, be patient, calm, sensitive, responsible, willing to take risks and educate yourself. After all that, and your bunny can feel comfortable and at peace around you. They'll be excited to see you, do as you say, and not run away from you At the of the day? Its worth it. You earned your bunny's love. It just takes patience.

I feel like one con is also that they can be super territorial! Also they're just very fragile... fragile GI system, very fragile skeletons, etc. Sadly one of our bunnies at the rescue fractured a couple of vertebrae recently; we still are not sure how exactly (suspect he was playing/binkying and something spooked him and he twisted a little harder than intended).

TY for mentioning, I've been wondering about that. My 5 mo old Holland lop knows when I'm about to put him open and he leaps and often gets away, only to land lopsided on the floor. I'll have to be conscious to lower him when nearing the destiny before he wiggles hops out of my hands. ... (Is gray bunny at 8:50 overweight? )
@alisonmccain
@alisonmccain Жыл бұрын
@@finallythere100 it could be overweight, but some bunnies develop that kinda "neck fat" (as I like to call it xD) despite not being overweight, sometimes after spaying/neutering as far as I know

Females grow delap for having babies. They pluck the hair to line their nests. Spayed at a young age stops the growth of it otherwise it grows after reaching sexual maturity. Bigger breed, bigger dewlap 😲 Having trouble putting your bunny to bed, ensure theres a reward in it for them. Give them a good reason to want to go 😉 🐇 Also, ensure you hold your bunny until they stop squirming before releasing them very clamly and slowly. They then learn they need to be calm to be let go. This saves a lot of accidents and injuries.

I got lucky with the cuddling part, my rabbit Rin let me hold him for an hour straight a few days ago. He even fell into a deep sleep and he would twitch every so often, I think he was dreaming. Learn from this video! Especially watching your rabbits. I went out for one night and came back to my eldest rabbit who hadn’t eaten his dinner(which is quite unusual for him), I just thought he didn’t like it. This one moment of “he just didn’t like it” turned into an emergency. He was rushed into the er that following night barely breathing and bloated. He spent 4 nights in the ICU. His stomach then became so gassed up that he need emergency abdominal surgery. He had a 5% chance of survival rate. His stomach was approximately 30-45minutes away from bursting when they opened him up. He somehow pulled though this and now is doing extremely well, unlike my bank account. What ended up happening was while I was gone he had chewed the carpet and swallowed a piece which blocked the exit of his stomach. Please always watch them eg with a camera, or have someone watch them. If u can’t then please bunny proof!! 💓

We just recently got a rabbit. She is adorable. But the one thing I wish I had done was buy things like the playpen, the carrier, bedding, appropriate flooring for playpen etc first over a period of months. Having all that expense in one month blew our budget right out the window. So I would suggest that anyone who wants a rabbit gets all that in place before getting the rabbit and it's food. She is an emotional support animal for our adult son and the change in him has been amazing. So, for us, having to eat hay this month is totally worth it.

I can definitely attest to the loyalty part. When I was a kid, two of our rabbits, Louie and Willow, were effectively couple in our household. Their houses were right next to each other, their bowls were right next to each other, and they would always be laying down next to each other. When they passed, their ashes were mixed together and buried in front of a tree outside my bedroom.

Having had my heart broken by three hamsters that were gone FAR too soon, I concur that longevity is a “pro” for a Bun. Plus, there’s nothing like when your Bun stalks you for treats! They stare. Their little nose twitches. They run around you. Plus, it is 100% true that a pet rabbit looks like an Easter decoration all year round. The one downside, especially in 2022, is that between litter, lettuce, kale, raddicio, and toys, a Bun costs close to a car payment every month. You’ll get more mileage out of a rabbit. And like an exotic foreign car needs a specialist for repairs, a rabbit requires an exotic veterinarian.

Very through my buns are so spoiled and my youngest is getting spayed next week it’s costing around 140 it’s not to bad but when I got my other neutered it was only like 80 so it was a big of a shock but even though there expensive there worth it
@aliciakelly3159

And even an exotic event isn't everything it can be my rabbit needs a $3,000 surgery to fix a genetic problem that the vet doesn't even think he'll survive but they're worth every penny once you earn their trust and love there's nothing like I've owned dogs and cats but it's different rabbits are scared flighty animals so when you are in their trust it's the most gratifying thing in the world

@@aliciakelly3159 My 2yr-old Bun’s veterinary bill came to @$3K after a 2-day stay at the hospital (for gastric stasis brought on by an e.cunniculi flare-up). My Bun was OK, but required a follow-up of Panicure for 28 days. Trying to involuntarily syringe-medicate a boy Bun is like trying to catch a fur-covered rocket. My wife and I somehow managed, and we think our Bun has since forgiven us. I was willing to pay anything to get my Bun back in good health. Our Vet told us up-front what the expenses would be. This is one big factor potential rabbit owners must account for - Vet visits are expensive. The one mistake I made was not bringing my Bun to a Vet right after we bought him. Establishing a rabbit as a patient with a Vet is more complicated if their first visit is a crisis instead of a routine baseline check-up.

Thank you for another great video Lorelei! I got home from a busy day of work and I was so happy to see you uploaded a video ^_^ I agree the pros outweigh the cons, despite the struggles that I had with my little guy ( territorial spraying, biting, scratching, chewing 4 of my chargers and shoes) I would do it all over again ❤

For me, a pro is that the poops can be used as fertilizer in the garden. A con is that multiple bunnies can be difficult to bond. Some of my bunnies are not bonded and therefore they all tend to pee on the floor...

Something i learned recently, when you adopt take them to the vet straight away regardless if the volunteers and fosters didn't mention a health problem, i adopted a male bunny that had recently been neutered by the volunteers so he had been to vet yet, they didn't disclose that they had amputated the fingers in his back legs and his front legs were still infected, so, for a whole month the poor thing was walking around with an infection and i was completely oblivious, i don't blame anyone but myself because i didn't notice, and also it's not their fault when they have so many rabbits they transport to families and rescue and foster abd take to vets it's hard to keep track of everything, so it's not their fault, i should have taken him straight away, and that's what i learned no matter the circumstances, when you get a bunny first thing you do is schedule a vet appointment.

It is their fault when they are so over run the care for the animals go down the spca does not actually disclose any information that will take away a animals chance of being adopted away usually if the animal is red labeled they will be to sleep

I love animals soo much but I do get scared by dogs and cats from time to time because they bite and scratch, bunnies are the only animals that I am not afraid to cuddle and hug and, my bunny Leo is always there for me, he shows me that whatever happens, the world won’t end, you have to keep living! When I’m touched by the love of my bunnies, it’s like my heart was rebuilt by their tiny paws!

Our rabbit is a chewaholic. She always has been, and it has been a real headache. We once rabbit proofed our whole house but she still managed to get behind the freezer and chew through the cable - $750 later we needed a new freezer. She has gone through several washing baskets over the years, we have tried every kind of material there is. And yes, we have tried every suggestion you have made, abundance of toys, wood scraps, etc. She gets plenty of hey. I think it just seems to be in her nature to chew. So we had to free roam her to just one room to keep the damage at bay - and that room has an almost destroyed carpet now in every corner! She gets plenty of attention from my son who is her official owner though - and is greatly loved by all of us. Except for the chewing she is the most adorable rabbit out there! Loving, kind, enjoyed being held (not being picked up though, but if she comes to you you can scoop her into your arms and she loves a long pet on the head or neck). She is snuggly and cuddly - and the bonus is, she never digs at anything - so I guess that is a good thing. Goes to show, each rabbit has it’s own pros and cons. Thanks for sharing these Lorolai (sorry spelling) - I too think it was all worth it, even though we have spent thousands having to replace stuff over the years. 🤣🐰

Other con is that they can easily scratch and bite you. It also can be messy dealing with poop and urine that can be anywhere. Their food and equipment cost a lot. Another pro is they can be in their play pen for as long as it's necessary without them complaining because they like having their privacy. I think the pros are that precious that I have loved bannys.

I'd like to share that my rabbit, Nolan, who I have mentioned in the comments on past videos has passed away on February 1st. We think he either had a seizure or was trying to stand up and was paralyzed. I don't know what cased it exactly, but I do thank you Lorelei for giving me tips and tricks on how to raise him properly before getting him and even after getting him. If I could eventually bring myself to own another rabbit (which I don't think I could. He was my one and only) I would always remember what you taught me. But for now, I think I want a Guinea Pig, but I'll never stop watching you because you and Lennon are entertaining.

I love your videos. Pom Pom is 8 months old and I've had him since he was 8 weeks, he might be unusual but he likes sitting in a highbacked chair and having cuddles in my arms anything from 10 minutes to, would you believe it 2 hours! Is it unusual as you mentioned they don't like to be held or cuddled. I cuddle him much like you would an infant and he is so relaxed and licks me loads ;) He also likes jumping on us and generally climbing up wherever we are. again, thanks so much for your content and keep making these helpful videos.

I had bunnies as pets as a kid. One of them was very clean like you mentioned. She had her spot to leave her droppings but was very territorial if you got too close to her rabbit house. The other one was very warm and loved to be cuddled but peed everywhere specially on my bed pillows which you can imagine had my mother pretty upset all the time but I didn't care for the rabbit odor so she just put up with it and constantly had to wash them. I love bunnies. I wish I could have one but in my present situation I just wouldn't have the time to take of it properly.
