I was part of quite a few online text role-plays, so I have some experiences where I quit. Reasons for me leaving a role-play vary greatly from something my character did confused the role-players so I left for the sake of the role-play. Someone who thinks they are being helpful by calling out my poor sentence structure when in reality they are just being a jerk. Sudden meta-gaming by one of the role-players. Meta-gaming is when you start to carry non-roleplay elements into the role-play by taking character acts personally and acting salty.

@@lanceknightmare That's bleeding, metagaming is acting on (or sharing) knowledge the character shouldn't possess. Bleeding is hard to prevent. I thought I was good at it, then I learned that the hard way I aint and feel now very sorry toward a fellow player.

@@SarahAndreaRoycesChannel People called it meta-gaming on this one board I used to belong to. The term bleeding is one I am not familiar with. There is this one list of terms I saw years ago called The Crimson Munch Project. It had a ton of definitions for things people do in a role-play. I am guilty of being a Twink. Which is when you bring god's into role-plays which have nothing to do with god's.

Yeah, it’s pathetic. Not at all uncommon unfortunately. I play on a DayZ rp server and those people are definitely around, both in game and on the Discord. We had one adult guy with his all adult group breaking character in game to bully a 13 year old boy for NO reason. He was our youngest player and one of our best role players, and he stayed in character like a damn pro and reported them after. When the adult scum bags were confronted by this with evidence by admins they refused to talk about it and instead opened several tickets accusing the boy of having (and I’m mentioning the worst one here) retraumatized one of the group members months back when he played a doctor, he did a medical check and the group member felt abused because he’d been sexually abused as a child. I don’t get why adults bully kids or why you would spend so much time building characters and play a game to just ruin the fun for everyone.

It doesn’t matter his age, he was acting like an intolerable brat. Isn’t the point of D&D to have fun and be immersed in the story that the DM makes? Doesn’t understand that there’s limitations in any chosen class, Tries to shove himself in EVERY encounter especially when it’s not needed nor wanted, Attempts to attack other characters (in game) for unknown/stupid reasons, And apparently is too stupid to read to the room, (here’s a quick hint; if everybody else is following along with the rest of the game and you’re not, this might not be the group for you and Move On.) I mean the guy was so bad that the DM had to use divine intervention to end him. And to top it all off just like the petulant little brat he is, he whines and then literally picks up food and throws it at people. Age is no excuse, Lack of friends is no excuse, If you cannot work and play well with others, then don’t bother.
@CritCrab
@CritCrab 4 жыл бұрын
That is absolutely true. I mostly used the man's age to put into context just how bad of a player he was. If you are an adult in a room with a bunch of teens it should be basic common sense to know that, as the older person, you should make an effort to be more mature not yell at people and throw things. There is no excuse for what this idiot did.

CritCrab I suggest you blur or cover the words you don’t read- it already seemed strange to avoid saying them yet show them on the screen, but maybe that’s what they latched onto. Maybe add murder or murderhobo to the censor list? I believe the guidelines don’t want anything “bad” in the “beginning” part of the video. Lastly, maybe Skyrim gameplay set it off, since it’s a AAA still being sold cross platform? That’s all I can think of. Hope you get your money- and if it gets monetized again, I’ll be back. Keep up the good work!! (P.S. you’re doing wonderfully with audience interaction- the questions and polls you do are leagues beyond the other channels in subbed to that do similar content!)

It depends on what youtube thinks. There is a chance that youtube has started demonetizing reddit posts. There is also a chance that youtube is getting mad a patreon recently. The post itself doesn't have anything that I can find where an advertiser would run away. At most the post describing the dm as "god" may have flagged the video as a cult thing, but this channel is too small for the video to have it remonitized. Sorry about the algorithm...

Aasha it’d be kind of difficult to knock an entire screen into somebody with something that supposedly let most of its contents out before even reaching the target. And if it did somehow, it maybe lightly fell into the DM’s lap. Hardly justification to call the police or follow through with violence. Everything else he did was wrong, but don’t make something he did seem worse than it was, and say that everyone would have been justified in going way overboard.

I don't personally believe in witchcraft, but from what I understand of the Wiccan belief from conversations/curiosity-driven research is that most Wicca either doesn't believe in curses or belive that cursing someone is a very bad idea and usually results in worse things happening to the person that casts the curse. Bit of a weird point to make given it was only slightly referenced in this video and cursing the character sheet was definitely a funny thought, but I felt like sharing anyway.

Most Wicca believers I have spoken to are very young. Every one of them speak of the new Wicca which no longer requires you to be 13. While there is a little disconnect between the new Wicca and the old which is a furtility cult requiring you to be 13. Those who are under 13 in my experience always dismiss the age 13 requirement. "You have disadvantage with heavy armour" "No I don't because *fake reason*" DM: "Yeah, you do, end of argument, roll at disadvantage". I actually think retconning or telling him he can't do things is the wrong approach. Just lay some consequences on him.

@a.spirit8408 4 жыл бұрын
IMO the consequence-based course correction works best on people you want to play with. Like if an enthusiastic player who gets along with the rest of the party is still too murder-hobo-y. But for this type of That Guy, attention and spotlight is what they want, at the expense of other players' fun. If you only give them in-game consequences, they will escalate while still hogging the spotlight ("I attack the rogue." "I throw a rock at God.") Best to ignore and retcon around them. I hope to remember that if I am ever tested like this.

Those of us in RP circles (Not RPG circles, just general RP in chatrooms) have a word for this type of person: Godmodder. The type who doesn't care what the other person does, just pretty much describes what others do, makes himself the best, and pays no attention to anything that takes him down. Clearly, he didn't know how to handle it when he WASN'T the one in control.

I new I should've said no, but I REALLY hate excluding anyone from the awesomeness that is D&D... Still it was a hard lesson that I learned that sometimes you have to not allow someone to join. As much as I'm going to hate doing it whenever the next time it happens, I'll be saying no. Still, the remnants of the group still want to play with me still being the DM, which is nice.

The rules exist as a very good guide on what to do in most given situations and can even save a party's life. After all, if the players wonder down the wrong optional path, they might encounter an opponent that's of a tier or two higher than what they normally can handle. Granted, clever groups might figure out a few tricks, like having the tank-paladin rush to one side, to distract the green dragon, so that the rogues can use their bows for Sneak Attacks, and other martial/support characters use ranged attacks, so that the spell-caster can use a scroll of fireball at a place that torches just the dragon, and then the rest of the tank-types charge in to hack and slash, while the rest use bows and ranged spells. (I was actually in that situation.)

He gave himself magical items with no reasoning as to why he had them, everything he did was directly to spite the rest of the group's plans (may I add that most of what he did probably went against his alignment), and he tried to prey off of the fact that they were teenagers who were still learning the rules.
