@TheOtherWhiteBread0 Funny you should ask. I was targeted by the local police after a couple of minor crimes that they couldn't convict me on, so they elevated things and accused me of 2 very serious felonies that I was absolutely innocent of. I was lucky and found not guilty, and at the age of 15 I moved to another state. I knew it was just a matter of time they would get me for something I didn't do. As the victim of a few crimes now, the police have been worthless. They even had the perp in a squad car but failed to do SOP so he got away. I lost hundreds.

@HashimotoDatsu
@HashimotoDatsu 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrBlaker412 I used to do the same when I worked in Loss Prevention. There is a mental play to it as well, as someone who willingly surrenders their ID is, in a sense, displaying a cooperative attitude. That is to say, when not in a traffic violation, you absolutely do not need to comply with that request unless you have been detained. I'm honestly shocked how many shoplifters just handed their IDs over just because of how polite I was. Long story short, its not improper to do this in a traffic stop and it can create a sense of security for the officer, although it does both parties good to clearly state the purpose behind the stop. Lastly to anyone reading, as loss prevention or asset protection, keep in mind you do not have to comply with us, but we generally have established as a reliable witness with the local police and are required to have substantial evidence of the crime committed. That doesn't mean we can refuse to return your ID, legally detain you in any way, or prevent you from exiting the encounter at any time. A police officer is given the authority to take these actions for the safety of evryone involved. Know your rights, but be as respectful as possible. Even if you are not getting it in return, it will be to your benefit should things need to go to court.

That’s still going slow. Here In Canada that would be 8kmh which is equivalent to going 32 in a 40. That is slow. That is dangerous because it disrupts the flow of traffic, causes road rage and can cause the person coming up behind you to slam on their breaks. Just because a limit is say 50, doesn’t mean you can go any speed under 50. You need to go the limit or else you’ll disrupt traffic. Seeing how you don’t see this as a problem tells me you’re a slow driver. Which I would then say speed the hell up. Driving slow is just as dangerous as going fast and if you don’t believe that, you’ll soon find out the hard way how wrong you are

I wasn't sure so I drove past his house and circled back. When I did so the cop stopped me and got my license and registration. When I asked why...... he told me my taillight was out. I knew he was lying. I never dared to get out of the car though.

When I was stopped for nothing (driving a crap car in the nice part of town), the excuse was "From where I was it looked like your inspection was out of date", when the state inspection stickers were front window mounted and color coded. Odd, he didn't stop the Cadillac in front of me with the same color sticker, or the brand new 626 behind me. Once he saw I was a teen and all my paperwork checked out, he went back to his hiding spot to look for anyone who didn't belong (I was white, so I belonged, even if a teen with a cheap first car). And as ive said, 5mph is nothing. If two vehicle are driving a total of 100 miles then the one going 70 will arive AT MOST 10 minutes before the one going 65(im too lazy to do the math). About 25 years ago a friend was driving home on Poinciana Blvd going exactly the speed limit, and was pulled over. The officer’s reason, “No one drives the speed limit on that road, so THAT was suspicious.” (I know the road well. Twenty five years ago, this 5 mile stretch of road had 10 homes, had a speed limit of 55, and everyone I knew typically drove at least 65 (except me, I also only drive the speed limit, ever). The reason she drove so carefully. Her and her second spouse just had a baby. First for him. Second for her. This was one baby in the car. Her first child of 17 years earlier, was the mother of the second baby in the car. The lady was white. I do not know the cop’s motive in this video. Racism probably was part of it. Meeting quotas was probably also part. Giving that warning seemed odd. I am thinking that as a rental he thought he could pull something to meet quotas, but the driver was clean, so he way annoyed the stop didn’t count towards quota. His attitude seemed pissed off. And, as the cop indicated, he had to get back to work.

Surley this cop was fishing for an incident. I am still amused by a traffic stop in Georgia in the early 1970s. I was on family vacation traveling through GA on my way to NC and traveling in reasonably busy mid afternoon traffic on a four lane highway. Not familiar with the area, I was being extra careful especially when a GA State Trooper got on my tail. I sure didn't want a citation to explain to my commander upon return from leave. Oops, his blue lights came on. I was doing to speed limit of 70mph and that was his reason for stopping me. He told me I "NEEDED TO SPEED UP AN STAY WITH THE TRAFFIC FLOW... THAT I WAS IMPEDING TRAFFIC!" As a result of answering his 3rd degree questions,, he learned I worked Law Enforcement in the USAF and was on leave. I was Law Enforcement so he said as a "professional courtesy" he wasn't going to issue a citation. That was the only time that I know of ever hearing of anyone getting stopped for doing the speed limit when there was not an obvious safety issue at hand.; such as an accident, road construction, etc.

I was once pulled over for NOT turning right on red after taking the exit from RTE 81. The NY State Trooper pulled me over after the light turned green and I made my turn. Clearly the asshat cop wanted to go fishing but after seeing the cop behind me was waiting for me to turn right on red so he could try establish due cause for his hijinx I waited for the green light. The cop tried to bully me pointing out that I failed to turn right on read. I pointed out that turning right on red was an option and not a legal requirement. Then he began acting disparaging when I told him that I was on my way to work. He then snottily asked "where would someone like you be working." I happened to be on my way to the radio station where I worked on the air. He started getting a bit nervous at that point especially after taking down his name and badge number for the news director as I told the cop. He mumbled some bs about keeping traffic going at a normal rate and scuttled off down the road.

That's because if someone is doing something nefarious (drugs, guns, illegal aliens) they don't want to get pulled over for speeding and then have the cop figure out there's something else going on, so they go less than the speed limit, which is suspicious, because if someone is going less than the speed limit then they must have something to hide if they are so concerned about being pulled over for speeding.

In Illinois, where our tollways are 70mph there are signs that clearly say that the minimum speed limit is 45 mph. Going 65 in a 70 is perfectly reasonable and i see it all the time. This is ridiculous and clearly racial profiling

There's something to be said for having a minimum on freeways. Tell people it's a violation to go less than 45 in a 70 zone (because it's actually dangerous!) and that kind of signals to everyone that it is NOT a violation to go 45, or 46, or whatever speed you want between 45 & 70.

@@julianbrelsford well, thats because its not. You can go 50 on 70 zone, why not? maybe you have precious cargo and cant go faster? or maybe they just want to chill, or whatever. you cant pressure people to drive maximum speed all the time. its upon each driver to watch traffic and if you want to drive 70 and see someone driving 50 in front of you its your responsibility to safely pass them.

@@x340x So many good reasons not to drive at the limit. In its name, it's a limit. Your car may not do higher speeds well, maybe you feel the road conditions are unsafe, you're a less confident driver, the road has a sharp bend. It's actually on the courts for not clarifying this in the cases that they have seen. The courts lack of clarity is what allows this type of stuff to still happen, and I would argue that they have refused to clarify it in order to allow officers to perform their duties in this way with impunity.
