@@MrBlaker412 I used to do the same when I worked in Loss Prevention. There is a mental play to it as well, as someone who willingly surrenders their ID is, in a sense, displaying a cooperative attitude. That is to say, when not in a traffic violation, you absolutely do not need to comply with that request unless you have been detained. I'm honestly shocked how many shoplifters just handed their IDs over just because of how polite I was. Long story short, its not improper to do this in a traffic stop and it can create a sense of security for the officer, although it does both parties good to clearly state the purpose behind the stop. Lastly to anyone reading, as loss prevention or asset protection, keep in mind you do not have to comply with us, but we generally have established as a reliable witness with the local police and are required to have substantial evidence of the crime committed. That doesn't mean we can refuse to return your ID, legally detain you in any way, or prevent you from exiting the encounter at any time. A police officer is given the authority to take these actions for the safety of evryone involved. Know your rights, but be as respectful as possible. Even if you are not getting it in return, it will be to your benefit should things need to go to court.

That is dangerous because it disrupts the flow of traffic, causes road rage and can cause the person coming up behind you to slam on their breaks. Just because a limit is say 50, doesn’t mean you can go any speed under 50. You need to go the limit or else you’ll disrupt traffic. Seeing how you don’t see this as a problem tells me you’re a slow driver. Which I would then say speed the hell up. @@apilkey who said that he was consistently driving 5 mph below? Do you think the police officer was monitoring his speed for long enough to conclude that? He coulda been going 5mph below the speed limit for a few seconds. There is no proof in the video to state that he was driving that far below the speed limit for any considerable amount of time. And as ive said, 5mph is nothing. If two vehicle are driving a total of 100 miles then the one going 70 will arive AT MOST 10 minutes before the one going 65(im too lazy to do the math). About 25 years ago a friend was driving home on Poinciana Blvd going exactly the speed limit, and was pulled over. The officer’s reason, “No one drives the speed limit on that road, so THAT was suspicious.” (I know the road well. Twenty five years ago, this 5 mile stretch of road had 10 homes, had a speed limit of 55, and everyone I knew typically drove at least 65 (except me, I also only drive the speed limit, ever). The reason she drove so carefully. Her and her second spouse just had a baby. First for him. Second for her. This was one baby in the car. Her first child of 17 years earlier, was the mother of the second baby in the car. The lady was white. I do not know the cop’s motive in this video. Racism probably was part of it. Meeting quotas was probably also part. Giving that warning seemed odd. I am thinking that as a rental he thought he could pull something to meet quotas, but the driver was clean, so he way annoyed the stop didn’t count towards quota. His attitude seemed pissed off. And, as the cop indicated, he had to get back to work.

Surley this cop was fishing for an incident. I am still amused by a traffic stop in Georgia in the early 1970s. I was on family vacation traveling through GA on my way to NC and traveling in reasonably busy mid afternoon traffic on a four lane highway. Not familiar with the area, I was being extra careful especially when a GA State Trooper got on my tail. I sure didn't want a citation to explain to my commander upon return from leave. Oops, his blue lights came on. I was doing to speed limit of 70mph and that was his reason for stopping me. He told me I "NEEDED TO SPEED UP AN STAY WITH THE TRAFFIC FLOW... THAT I WAS IMPEDING TRAFFIC!" As a result of answering his 3rd degree questions,, he learned I worked Law Enforcement in the USAF and was on leave. I was Law Enforcement so he said as a "professional courtesy" he wasn't going to issue a citation. That was the only time that I know of ever hearing of anyone getting stopped for doing the speed limit when there was not an obvious safety issue at hand.; such as an accident, road construction, etc.
