I really enjoyed this. It was somehow both inspiring and calming at the same time. And you both seemed very genuine. So many people on social media give me the feeling that they are just trying to say what they think is viewed as correct without really believing it and sharing it as a part of themselves. This conversation was a genuinely open flow of ideas in both directions.

45:59 - "To a certain degree, we are responsible for our partner's feelings and it's our job to help make them feel better. But it can quickly cross into toxicity if you become solely responsible for their feelings." Love Dr. K's perspective on codependency. So many other KZbinrs proclaim that you should never, ever be even the tiniest bit responsible for your partner's feelings, or else all hell will break loose.

Similar story but I'm also autistic and charisma on command really helped me back then and Dr K is helping me now as my latest special interest. I'm training to be a teacher instead though. I have a theory that charisma on command must help a lot of autistic people. I like to think of it as the empathy and compassion is there with autistic people, these youtube channels taught me better ways to show it.

I mean a big part of where he is now is accepting yourself, not creating or changing yourself. Sure it can put you in situations that you will discover yourself and that was why it was healthy for him in his 20's. Just make sure you do what feels right for you and don't look for pleasing your ego through external means. Or else you might find yourself somewhere you didn't want to end up (but it is never too late to take a different path).

So I legitimately developed charisma as a defense mechanism after high school. Had a super embarrassing and public humiliation in front of friends and family. Vowed never again and literally studied up on emotions, facial cues, the 2009 hit show Lie to Me. I transferred and moved halfway across the country to be someone else. Obvi I developed burnout quickly. Only recently found out I have OCD too. Weird.

Charlie has expressed himself in such a great way, that i felt like he was telling my story. So many things he experienced and struggled with were mine as well. It's really incredible when i hear people so young and have already achieved so much. Things sound so easy, but to actually work with AND on your issues and struggles is quite demanding.

The problem (maybe its not actually a problem though) with Ayurveda elemental personality group thingys, is that there are literally hundred of other breakdowns of personality groups that people find convincing or find to be true. For example horoscopes, intj, I even saw a website once that categorized you according to what card you are and they said stuff about your personality and your fate. Also DSM diagnoses. Assuming these systems are contradictory, and only one or a few of them can be right, this is strong evidence that humans just make these things up and they only seem real due to cognitive bias, but they are not actually real from an objective standpoint. So what makes you think you got it right of all groups? (This is the same problem with religion in general). Of course even if this stuff is not "true" it could possibly still be helpful, maybe it could be making use of strong form of the placebo effect to improve your life, but even in that case it would still be helpful. when religious sects claim they know the objective truth and all other religions are wrong, I laugh at them, because come on. But not all religion/spirituality says that. Anyway so idk what I'm saying. But why should I choose to follow ayerveda over all the other systems, including the default western one or what I already have. After all everything is beauty so why would I need to make a change? Maybe I just would at some point when I'm older
@sobresobre7563
@sobresobre7563 Жыл бұрын
The way I understood it, Ayurveda is not as strict as to what category you belong. The three doshas are supposed to broadly encompass all types of people, but even though you are primarily let's say Vata (60%), you can also be Pita (30%) and Kapha (10%). There is room for you to have other characteristics that do not match your primary type. In other systems you are just mostly give one answer - you are just a "Capricorn" you cannot be also partially pisces. You are just ISFJ and not also partially INFJ. But that's the advantage of ayurveda to me, it's not as rigid - ayurvedic practioneer should look directly at only your characteristics. The doshas are supposed to be only a tool to suit you, not to make you suit the doshas. that was my experience. At the end of the day, the Dharmic tradition does not ask for faith. If those do not work for you in any substantial way, you don't follow it. It's also very old so I think some parts can be outdated, but the most important lesson I took from it, is to work with yourself not try to mold yourself into something else. Don't try to fit yourself into one fits all model, because you may need a different strategy to succeed that other people. I always felt bad that (primary dosha being Vata) I was doing so many things at once. I though to succeed you need to have that laser focus on only one thing (more like Kapha or ever Pita). I was able to overcome this feeling and I'm happier now not trying to force myself to abandon all my hobbies anymore

@Sobre Sobre I'm not really here to debate what to believe or what not to believe. But if you know more about MBTIs or horoscopes. At the core of both of those systems is actually that you are all of the things. Each person has a unique astrology chart where each of their planets and houses and whatnot are in different zodiac signs which are each supposed to tell you of an aspect. MBTI is generally based off of cognitive functions from Carl Jung. The concept is that all people use their sensory organs and intuition to understand things and use reasoning and values to make devisions/form opinions. The question is just how you prioritise these and how they relate to your interactions with your internal or external. Qnd those arent unique either. Enneagram has system about "wings" where you are slightly more than one type at one time. Essentially all of these systems have sort of a failsafe "oh you are not like a capricorn in relationshipsm thats because youre a pisces venus". The reason i even know this much about these systems is becuase i amt have been interested in them. So dont take this a condemnation. But yeah a system having room for diversity is sort of just showing that people cant actually be classifird much at all. Though that being said: Im very glad ayureveda has helped you. I too have gotten a deeper understanding of peopke with my preferred personality grouping systems.

1:08:00 this is something I have come to realise recently. My partner for example always wants to do stuff and is really quick to make plans for us with friends or family or something. However what I need in my life is to have space to be impulsive or get the chance to start to want to do something. We have started to plan for having an empty schedule and that has helped some but it is hard, especially since I also want to please my partner by making plans.

So this, about the sensory humunculus, is the explanation why when i (start to) have headaches for example, i can visualize the areas, points or lines where i feel the pain and start to visualize them like flowing, draining them and i can also fixate my attention outside of them in a specific "spot" or area where i don't feel the pain at all and, if the pain is coming back i try again to "massage" and let my attention "flow" in another area or come back into it.

What I appreciate about Charlie is that his awareness and experience is firmly rooted in established things. His reasoning is sound rather than delusional, which is rare amongst people who delve this deeply into themselves.

I feel grateful about this conversation. And I notice a huge relaxation in me. Seeing Charlie go to these stages and naming them brings so much acceptance for my own path. Looking back at my path I see many parallels. I have a lot of shame about the 'mistakes' I made, and watching this made me realize that those have beauty too. It's okay to figure things out. To not be perfect. That's what I take away.

It's kinda weird seeing this story of Charlie. Charlie has always had the biggest smiles I've ever seen. I watched his videos religously a couple of years ago, until I got to a point that I felt he was just just another dude reurgitating books he's read. It's not that he ever said or claimed something I knew to be false, but I just felt like I wasn't the right recipient I listened to this video, and I'm not done, but wow, this must be one of Dr. K's best videos. I feel more connected to charlie than ever, and I have more respect of him than I ever had. We all have our battles, some smaller, some greater. I'm sad for what charlie has experienced, no one should experience that. But the path Charlie has taken, deserves commends. Alexander Solshenitzyn spoke of how a group of people will split and behave increasingly different, after a traumatizing event. One group will be cynical bullys that want to "Push the pain forward", one group will be the non-cynical people who resolves the pain. Charlie in my book is a great dude. This video is like naruto vs Sasuke, or Son goku vs vegeta, the guest this time overshines the host, and if you are reading this Dr. K, I want to assure I mean this in the most possible way, Charlie is Vegeta, he just make you go "fuck, I understimated you, huh?"

It's interesting watching the chat replay. There were a couple guys back and forwarding the entire time about how this guys is rich and privileged and were telling everyone to disregard what he's saying because it doesn't apply to people that don't look like him. Think Dr.K needs to run a seminar on Jealously and how it drives everyone around you away.

Holy crap I relate to him trying to make others comfortable so much. I never knew how to put it into words but have always felt like I try too hard to make other's happy. It's as if it stretches beyond compassion and into a feeling of responsibility. And the amount of discomfort he feels is exactly how I feel in those moments. I can't physically relax until they are relaxed.

The comments 30 minutes in on the chat replay are so annoying. Someone says they traveled and people just run with that to make a stream of assumptions about someone's privilege and how they don't really understand other people's struggles. It's so ignorant and really shows how many people think money and fulfillment are the same thing. A lot of it is people stuck in resentment and finding excuses for why they are struggling. Glad to see there was eventually some push back though.

Just one thing: the "no enlightened Brahman" thing is probably more a question of who is writing history. Putting the Avatar of Vishnu or the important features in the kingly caste appear to have been a cultural struggle early on in Indian history where there was a power struggle between the Brahman and the Kshatriya.

I totally get the impression that Charlie is trying to flex how self reflective he is and show off his storytelling skills. He avoids Dr's K questions and this is plain rude. Making up a philosophy to cover that by Dr K is just some wierd rationalisation. And what's up with his camera position? Is this some kind of power move thing? When visually he is "higher" than Dr K? He is not using this frame in his own videos, so he must surely realize it's a wierd thing to do.

We are all a little reactive online, like people have an excessively angry reaction to an admittedly critical comment. People can have different reads on the same person, and you can't totally know who's right. This especially applys with someone you don't know in real life. We're all just doing our best.

This is eye opening. Tbh I’ve never engaged with Charisma on Demand, always thought he was one of those red pill pua guys. It’s interesting to see how he’s matured over the years and how self aware he is now. I find that often we think of an Internet personality as static and unchanging, either toxic or wholesome, but a lot of channels are run by real people living and improving themselves, trial and error, driven by their own dreams and demons.

everything may be valid, but not everything you do will make you happy and not everything you try will represent you in a way that you're comfortable with. the value of changing comes from the improvement of your experience as you reach for those things that improve your perception of yourself. sometimes change is uncomfortable but necessary, sometimes it's as simple as deciding to take action.

I finally found a way to describe this that makes sense, literally last week. If someone is bit by a dog as a kid and gets trauma, it makes sense for them to be scared of dogs as adults. Hence their emotions have valid reasons for being there that need to be respected. However, their fear is going to be a straight up wrong about how dangerous most dogs are, and will impede their ability to feel safe in the world with so many dogs in it. So the solution is to compassionately and respectfully give the person therapy, EMDR etc so they can stop being weighed down by past, valid trauma.
