Good gutter crew. It's good to see people that know what they're doing at work. I can't tell you how many Florida gutter companies would install new gutters right over rotten facia boards. When you have good crews, you pay them what they are worth! They still push those gutter guards here in S. FL, but the live oak leaves will clog them in a week!

The gutter concept of larger gutters, extra and larger downspouts, you speak of is one I've preached for years and so many just won't listen. Even my own parents listened to the roofer's gutter guy (who cheaped out) and not me when they got a roof, and yes, it ran over on heavy rains, haha. Good work guys!
@Dompn Жыл бұрын
42:22 i watched my neighbor get new gutters. he paid for the best gutters i've seen in a long time. 6 inchers! solid. except no one used a level on them. they were overflowing during the first rain because they were flush with the house (the house had long ago sunk towards the middle) hilarious. gutter guys had to come out and redo it. expensive lesson for gutter people. always use a level.

When I lived on the West coast of British Columbia where it does rain a bit, I attended home shows to see what kind of gutters I should get for replacement. There are only needles from cedar and fir trees. The Leaf Guard didn't seem to apply to me, especially as there is always muck from the dust and dirt and how are you going to clean it out. The filter for the gutters in your video would clog the holes and were difficult to clean as well. Oh well, a once-a-year hand scooping was no problem as I'm fairly frugal when it comes to money and I could clean it out myself. Nice to see you showcase the gutter guys as well as the concrete guys. Cheers.

The gutters company did a really good job. Only thing I wish they would do, which wouldn't take no more than 10 minutes. Blow the leaves off the roof and debris before the gutters or put up. Why would you want all that debris on your new gutters. It also shows that you care, to do that little extra for the homeowner.

Great job! Goes a long way towards protecting the yard and basement and more pleasant living atmosphere. I'm not a fan of any type of gutter guards. They cause heavy rain to skip over the gutter and allow very small debris thru and eventually cause problems. These will do a great job with the big stuff and there's a lot of it here. Need to have a way to clean the gutters every couple of years or when the small stuff builds up. Unfortunately, there is no good solution other than to check them regularly.

Yeah that was a good one. Other thing too is you got to keep the roof clean on that house there. There was a lot of branches. Maybe the people are old. I don't know but a couple of times a year. I grew up on the roof with my leaf blower and clean the roof off and blow all the gutters out. I'll be going up shortly with the now that the leaves are falling off the trees and clearing out the gutters before the snow flies. Good stuff. 🙂👍👍🇨🇦

Hey Shawn, I really like the way you subtly catch nuances of certain aspects of the building trades in you videos. In this particular instance, the way your gutter guys described the sequence of installing the supports, gutter guards and the screws, not only to maximize the efficiency of the installation, but the way it enhances the performance of the whole system. Which definitely prolongs the life of the entire guttering system and inevitably prolongs the life of the structure itself. Nice job....Your videos are getting better and better. I've been a long time viewer. Keep up the good work!
@GCFD Жыл бұрын
Thank you GB! I don't know if you noticed, but I somehow lost all the footage of the camera I keep on me during the job. There was a ton of info I missed in this video, so I was very reluctant to create and publish it. I finally got it done, and I think it turned out pretty well. The subtle points I think help capture the planning and execution of a job. I'm a scientist and asking questions is natural to me, so I like asking the pros why they are doing things a certain way. Often, they have a reason and that reason is usually very thoughtful. I am very fortunate that the crews I work with are so interested in the overall job and creating a lasting product. Thanks for your long time viewing! - Shawn

I am so amazed by these Amercian gutters in particular. We in Europe may have all those pipes laid out properly with the house being built, but installing gutters couldn't be easier the American way. Just making them on the spot for each house individually out of a roll of flat aluminum is amazing. In Germany gutters (and downspouts) for houses are round and premanufactured. To install downspouts you have to use specific adapters, cut all the pieces to length and stick them together, which seems like a pain in comparison. (Built in the 80's, those seams on my parent's house are leaky and annoying) On the other hand, no one has these sandpaper shingle roofs on normal houses here (on garden sheds only), because they are a pain and have to be replaced regularly (which is kinda expensive, too, imo). It's very nice to see, how good work is being done. Maybe with different regulations and parts, but it's still a very good opportunity to learn and see how things are done elsewhere. Thank you for doing such great work and sharing it with us!

My house is of a very similar construction, also in a similarly wooded area, and I have those exact same Leaf Guard gutters (the ones that were removed). They actually do work very well, that is until they become clogged with smaller, finer debris over time (~20 years in my case). Then the gap is too small to fit any tools or power washer tips into to clean them out. Although they're in otherwise good shape, this video is making me think it may be time to replace them.

I like the whole production style of the video. It was action, action, action from the beginning, with some pauses for detail at appropriate times. Well done. I've always thought that those Leafguard gutters would get overwhelmed in a moderately heavy rain. Fine for drizzle but not the real stuff. I live in a rainy leafy area and there's no simple fix. At least your guy's gutters can be cleaned easily. I haven't seem that design, is it his or a big brand name's?
