I experimented with tighter loops for my future airshow routine in the T-38. Burner and 250KIAS, tickle all the way with flaps 45 over the top. I think I got them between 3000' and 2500'. Long time ago. Needless to say, the airshow plan did not work out.
@user-xz9hu4rd2v16 күн бұрын
Yes, the loop in the T-38 was 5G pull at 500kts, 200kts inverted above, 10,000 used. It was more a pear-shaped path than a circle.

The first ever in cockpit video of an F-104 performing a loop. Piercarlo, I recall reading the loop can be performed at 550 knots in military power or 450 knots in burner. I assume these number are for a single seat and clean airplane??? In the TF you were in burner?
@PiercarloCiacchi26 күн бұрын
Your numbers are correct for a S model...clean or Tip Tanks. The 2 seaters have more lift because of the big canopies, so speed can be lower and the total altitude would be also less....

It is part of the Automatic Pitch Control System....it is an index relative to the angle of attack.The higher the index, the higher the angle of attack....where 0 to 1-ish are cruise values....2.5 is equivalent to an angle of attack use in a base turn (maximum)....4.5 would activate the stick shaker...5 would activate the KICKER....to avoid entering a stall.

Great! What are the g-loads you have when you enter the loop and on the exit?

@AcroAirwolf27 күн бұрын
@@sablatnic8030 Thanks, now I saw it, the lettering was outside my window, when I watched it the first time ! So it´s not a loop, it´s an egg ;-)
@PiercarloCiacchi26 күн бұрын
@@AcroAirwolf All loops are eggs...unless some extreme effort is put and specific aerobatic airplane is used. Entry speed is very high, so turning radius is big there....slower speeds at the top, makes a very much smaller turning radius there...hence the egg shape. Load factors are 4.5-5G at the bottom, then decreasing to somewhere 1-ish at the top....then increasing again to 4.5-ish at the exit....
@AcroAirwolf26 күн бұрын
@@PiercarloCiacchi Yes, after beeing an aerobatic glider pilot for 24 years, I know flying a really round loop for the judges on the ground is not so easy, especially when you have to compensate wind from ahead or behind. And as there exists no wind for the plane, you only can watch the aerobatic flights before your own and estimate how to "deform" the loop. As soon as you don´t have 0g on the top it will be an egg.
