After WW2 the idea of the nuclear family and suburban living was exploding, creating a car culture as people wanted to move away from the city and live in quiet suburbs or rural areas. Public transport is not cheap since one US state is as big (if not bigger) than an average European country, therefore public transport across the country is a ridiculous idea. If you believe that your city could benefit from public transport, then it is YOUR responsibility as a functioning citizen to bring that to your local governments attention. The beauty of being an American is having the power to tell your government what YOU want from them as a citizen.

As someone who has driven and flown all across ND and lives on the western side.. those pictures are taken at the furthest south east point.. those pics lie to you.. the ONLY hills are in the middle of the state that divides most of ND.. besides that it's all mostly flat.. biggest change in elevation is like 50 ft up or down.. and the tallest of the hills are under 1000ft.. we have no mountains.. what places REALLY don't tell you.. is that it's empty.. no good fast food.. no good entertainment.. no big cities.. the city councils are made up of your greatest great grandpa that thinks new infrastructure brings the devil to their towns.. the wind is atrocious.. it's so dry that it sucks even the strongest moisturizer off your skin like a damn vacuum.. and the winter?... It's so fucked.. at times I check the arctic weather.. and it really does get as cold if not colder at times.. this state is the saddest most depressing thing I've ever had to live in..
