These times are exactly about that....living life for yourself. These are times of healing, self-discovery and empowerment, and all this can be achieved through what we know as celibacy. In fact is sort of self-marriage. Doesn't have to be official, of course. So, Nicolas and all the others in the same situation, please take off from your shoulders the idea of having to explain to others how you feel when spend so much time on your own. Whoever is not happy in her/his own company, can't be happy in the company of others either. It is just busy....and that makes them feel better for that moment. That's a very superficial and unhealthy approach of life....thing that won't be supported by the planet for too long!!!!

In respect of moving to Italy, good idea if you feel like doing that, but your community and your under-construction brand revolves around English things. I would suggest that travelling around the rural UK and presenting all sorts of cute traditional English B&B cottages and the rural world around them could be something that your community would appreciate and you can make some money promoting those places too.

I enjoyed your answers to the questions sent in by your viewers. I have lived alone most of my adult life since leaving college and having college roommates. I was briefly married in my 30's and then divorced. I have had a few long-term relations and lived with a guy for about three years. But, alas, my relationship history has been one of highs and lows. I am 70 years old now and have become quite comfortable alone. I travel alone, go to dinner alone, and in general enjoy my solitude. I do have several good friends and a much smaller social life than I did in my younger days. Life changes so much. Many of my friends from years ago have married, formed families, moved away, and some have sadly passed away. Only occasionally do I feel lonely. Especially holidays when my friends are involved with their families. Where do I see myself in ten years? Hopefully still alive and well and still enjoying travelling. I love watching your channel. Just keep doing it and enjoying it!

I have also wanted to be married and have children. I’ve now accepted that if that doesn’t happen in the next ten years, I will still be content as a very supportive uncle. My plans for the next decade is to be in a rewarding environment where I can continue my professional work in physical therapy. If a life partner becomes a reality, that would be even more amazing. But for now, I will continue to work towards my Doctorate degree and make time for some creative projects to balance my energy.

My advice would be to tuck a little bit in a savings account every month, and start a pension fund, old age sneaks up on you more quickly than you expect it to. I'm so glad that I invested in a pension fund, because there is no way that I could survive on the miserly state pension that we get here in the U.K. Even when I was at my poorest, I still saved every month, and it's easier than you might think,so go and talk to your bank.
@ShelleB Жыл бұрын
Very good advice. No matter how much you earn, usually there is a chance to save, even if it just a small amount. Many people don’t think of the future and if there is a situation like auto repair, health/dental problems, or home-related repairs, that money can come in very handy. So many live paycheck to paycheck with no savings at all.

A banker is a good start, but by no means should be the end of your search. May I make another suggestion: at your local public library, even if you have your library search the entire UK, get a CD set by Tony Robbins (yes, that Tony Robbins), 21 hours over 18 cd's. There are so many more options that bankers are barred by law from offering. The name of the cd/ book would be helpful: Money, Master the Game, 7 simple steps to financial freedom. As TR states having a license is only step one. As my mentor taught me, listen to what the rich folks say, but more importantly, watch what they do. They may have seven zeros after their main digit but with many options we can do the same with just three zeros. Long point short, look carefully before you leap. Children, warms my heart even as a bi man. Much work but so fulfilling. I suspect you would make a great, loving dad.

Nicolas, this was such a lovely video. I am a new follower. You are delightful to listen to and I am enjoying your You Tube Chanel very much. I will be 70 in January. I have had a beautiful life in many ways. You asked us to tell you about ourselves. I grew up in a very special town named Belmont , outside of Boston , Mass. I graduated university and became a flight attendant for 15 years. It was a glorious time to travel. My 2 husbands were a professional footballer and an airline captain, who sadly passed away in front of me very young.. I have lived in many cities in the USA, Canada, and Europe. I lived under a lighthouse in Maine for 34 years, and in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which resembles England very much. I live in Maine now. My partner of 13 years is a retired physician. Life for 10 years has presented me with many health challenges. As you so beautifully said, " You never know what life is going to throw at you" very wise for a young man to say. Enjoy every moment , as I believe you do. My Mum used to say never give up your dreams. My dreams for my next decade are of better health and to travel in the new England states .to some of the very special places and hotels I have yet to see and enjoy a stay in. Like you buying a few special pieces of clothing, I believe in staying in very special hotels if you are going to leave your home. Be selective yet splurge and live your life to the fullest! Don't ever let go of your dreams Nicolas! jannieo❤

Nicholas, I admire your aim to take a year away from alcohol. It should never hamper Your ability to socialize. If someone doesn’t approve, maybe that friendship needs a closer look. Smart clubs and restaurants will always have good options for their clientele. Definitely it is healthier. It can be a money saver, I.e. cost of a coffee, or tonic water, versus a cocktail. I’m not a tea-totaler, but I can go a year or three without alcohol. If I want a glass of champagne at a wedding, or wine at the Thanksgiving table, I go for it. It’s the idea that it’s not necessary. I can always enjoy others and have loads of fun with or without a drink. You don’t have to worry, but for someone so young, it’s a surprise and a wise approach.

I agree with your comment. A friend should respect your individuality and be secure enough to appreciate differences. A friend should not make you feel uncomfortable for pushing back on the booze, and if they do it may be time to wish them a nice life and move on. Plus, avoiding alcohol minimizes the waistline. And who doesn't want a smaller waist?🙂

Please remember that there is a difference between 'being alone' and 'being lonely'...it really comes down to mindset. Hey Nicolas! I have been alcohol free for about five years and it has been fantastic! I understand your struggles, but I want to say that once you lose the desire to drink you will realize that you don't need to drink alcohol to be in social places. Fortunately for me, five years ago, I had a terrible night with alcohol and developed a negative aversion to alcohol. Overnight, I completely lost the will/desire to drink alcohol and I am so glad that it has happened. At the beginning, I thought parties and social outings would be awkward, but the majority of people really don't care and your body will feel so amazing the longer you are without alcohol. Anyways, I love your vids, keep up the good work! Hope to see you in Italy one day!

Well done. My husband has now been alcohol free for a year after drinking heavily for over 40 years. It was destroying his life and just before covid hit it came to a head that he was also destroying my life and our children’s too so he had to move out until he sorted himself out. It took him a couple of years but he finally realised that he was about to loose everything so he made the decision to stop drinking completely. I took him back as I didn’t want to give up on our 35 years of marriage and I felt that I owed him a second chance despite how much he had hurt me (as alcohol made him abusive and completely different to the gentle man I married). Thankfully this has worked out great as with mine and our children’s support he hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol since he moved back in to the family home. I know just how hard it is to change your life in this way but the benefits are so great especially regarding health and well-being. Xx

I heard your disappointment in not being able to give up drinking. It's socially tough to be the only one not partaking in a very decent glass of wine, or whatever. I completely understand. I remember giving up alcohol in my 20s when I was a bartender in Los Angeles. Try serving drinks that way! But what really got me to stop drinking was the effect of alcohol on my face. I was an actress, (it's L.A.) and I couldn't risk an audition looking puffy-eyed. So vanity is what got me to stop! Good luck, my dear. You mustn't be so hard on yourself. You are young only once. Thank you Nicolas for your openness, it was a very interesting video. Style, good taste, a good upbringing and happiness do not depend on money. There are enough people who have one thing but lack everything else. You have what the others lack and I hope you are happy and your wishes come true.

If you’re getting antsy in Edinburgh, try another country. I would love to see vlogs from Italy - what you will face there and how you will thrive there. Nicholas, you are really young and now is the time for you to take risks. If not now, when? Don’t ask yourself if you should move to Italy. Ask yourself - will I regret not moving to Italy? Nothing in this life is permanent so, if you get over there and don’t like it, give it a year or so and then go somewhere else. You don’t have to commit your entire life to Italy. And you are blessed with the perfect circumstances for moving - no partner, no kids, no home to sell and no 9-to-5. AND you actually have a good friend living there. How lucky are you?!

Great video Nicholas. You're always so welcoming and open about your life. I feel like a friend. Working hard is something we do to survive but enjoying your life is key to happiness. All in moderation. I have always rented so I could just pick up and go wherever, whenever however a goal of mine now is to put down some roots and buy a home. I'm very much looking forward to this next chapter.

Being comfortable, healthy and doing what you love is a good life. A significant other to go through life with is wonderful , but not a prerequisite for happiness. And as for children, the hard work is worth every moment. What a wonderful insight to this time in your life. Thanks for sharing.

Very good morning Nicolas! It is so lovely to watch your videos and getting to know you has been a delight and treat as it added beauty and joy to my own, that is something you have naturally and I am grateful for. I found it so humbling and sweet at the same time, how you were just chatting like a friend would do, about your goals, successes and challenges....it inspires me to do the same too! 🥰 Whenever you cooked and sat to eat... i always thought and looked at it, as if we were cooking and eating with you 👀❤ so it never crossed my mind that you'd be lonely, you are a young man full of life, dreams... not for a second would i ever imagine you without socialising 😁 You emanate balance, it is good to be intentional on how we use our time and who we desire to be and share it with. Well done for getting up early and hitting the gym 🙌 i share the same joyful success in my life too!! The trick of leaving the alarm clock outside the room or far from the bed, so you got to get up... is a winner!!🤗 Sending lots of love and gratitude from my heart to yours Nicolas. 🤗❤ Little note, the scones recipe you taught us Nicolas, we have followed and the most beautifully delicious scones come out without fail. We make them for friends, like little gifts, a home treat too... why not? 😉 I thought you'd love to know this too ❤

Hi Nicolas I appreciate most people in the comments are being kind and are genuinely offering advice, however it must be difficult and confusing getting so many opinions especially when you don't ask for them, you do what makes you happy, you are young, you are respectful and kind, you are classy and are model material, you will meet the right man,and then it will all fall into place for you no matter what you do in life you are and will always be successful ❤

Here I am again - I'm such a chatty cat - but it's nice to hear that you're not lonely. I've asked you that question when you're making the cooking videos, and you seemed lonely eating all by yourself. Happy to hear that you have quite the busy social life. And it's strange that I ask people that if they're lonely, because I don't socialize a whole lot, so when I get off of work, I go home - hang out with the dogs - take them for a walk- do my workouts in the home gym. I love my solitude, and don't feel lonely at all; but then I go ahead and ask other people if they're lonely. Interesting......🤔

Hi Nicolas, love your videos right from the beginning of your channel! In regards to alcohol, don't feel bad, the goal I think is too extreme, not that you don't have enough "willpower". (Im a nutritionist by the way). I would personally recommend that you should just try to drink less often instead of cutting it out, e.g. instead of none at all, even just be like 1 -2 glass of wine or whatever per week, limit to weekends perhaps, and on other days you could have non alcoholic alternatives e.g. herbal teas/tisanes, a mocktail, hot chocolate, etc. Then you can have it sometimes on a social occasion, and on other times you can just tell your friends, I don't feel like having it today (a more intuitive eating type approach). Telling yourself you cant have something often makes you feel like you want it more, this is true especially for sugary treats, chocolate, etc I think as well. Best of luck!

The grass is not always greener somewhere else ,I have found everywhere I have lived in the world has it's problem and plusses , also regarding alcohol I found as I got older it gave me up , and I didn't feel the need for it as I became more comfortable within myself . Keep up your courage , keep believing in yourself .

Nicolas love xx. Sweetie you can if you put your mind to it you can overcome alcoholic drinks. It's better for your health . Now find out if there are non alcoholic drinks that does not affect your health. And drink plenty of water. You need to be hydrated. Alcoholic drinks can dry you out. So think about it. You are very special person we all love your candid conversation and how detailed you explain it to us. If you move I'm going to miss Edinburg. Such a beautiful place. But put God before you and He will direct you to where you will be. Lovely view and beautiful picture of you and your apartment. Take care of yourself sweetie. Have a blessed day. I own my home and live a relatively quiet life and try my best to provide every opportunity to my children. The beauty of social media is the ability to brand yourself and reach a multitude of people 👍🏻.
