Cacti and succulents are the way to go and are very hardy, I hardly ever water mine {as too much water can be bad for them} and Cacti can produce nice flowers!

Peace Lilly, cut back the dead leaves, don't overwater, keep it outside in as much shade, especially in the afternoon, morning sun is better. Give it a liquid feed. They flower outside here late spring, summer. The Begonia is overwatered, tip out the water, ctheyvlike shafy sunlight. Cactus don't like water, like sun, never water in winter.

It's hard financially to hang on to a home in another location. I assume you're renting out your property in the UK? I don't blame you for hanging on, I did the same for 10 years but it was interstate. It's also an emotional attachment. Don't know how you handle the heat up there, at least in Melbourne we get proper seasons. Looks like puppy is settling in well and your kids will thank you one day for moving - having lived in both countries 🩷
