Hi Fern, sorry for the mealies infestation. You were so gracious about answering the personal questions and I think it was the right call addressing the rumours once and for all because they can become toxic. I do believe some people are genuine worried about you, and as long as your privacy and boundaries are respected all should be good😊 Edit: Love the song. Thank you

You are such a special and kind person and that song makes me feel like you are going to be alright. You have a very bright future and have done so much for such a young person. Thank you for this video and for letting us into your home. It was just beautiful.

Truthful Fern: "... so I'm very proud of myself: I tend to get things and then, I'm like - I don't know - they just end up sitting for a while because I'm weird about using things right away... I like to hoard things, I guess". Ahhhh... your honesty is refreshing! Me too!!!! Fern, the way you addressed the relationship questions was incredible! I felt it deeply 🩷 My boyfriend has ADHD and because of that our relationship is a little rocky sometimes as well but we always make it work in the end. Breakup doesn’t always have to be anyone’s fault and sometimes people forget that. Super refreshing to listen to your take and i’m happy that’s the case cause i’ve been curious and frankly a little worried for some time now 🌱 Also *your* mealies are especially nasty beasts…

Root mealies and regular mealies are different - root mealies are awful and sooooo hard to eradicate completely - re rooting and treating the stem is important cause they’ll spread like wild fire! DONT NOT WATER WITH THE USED WATER FROM OTHER PLANTS , that’s how they spread

Root mealybugs and regular mealybugs are two different species. You have to do a soil drenches every 7-14 days for at least 5-6 weeks. In the US we use Azamax but I'm not sure if the Canadian equivalent or if you can get that there

Root mealies usually look more ‘streamlined’ and tend to stay in the soil. I’m wondering if it’s foliar ones hiding out in the soil? At any rate, the soil had to go!
@littleheaven70

Hey Fern, if those mealies were on the leaves too, then the ones in the pot were probably not root mealies but rather normal ones doing their disgusting little hiding-around-the-drainage-holes thing. So at least you're only dealing with one kind and not two. But since they were hiding in the pot, it was definitely worth going full noise and getting rid of it all!

Food grade diatomaceous earth cures mealy bugs. Just get a small soft artist brush and paint them on the mealies. It really was a miracle cure for my string of pearls (which mealies love) and my cacti. Before I discovered DE, I had to throw out infested plants cause I was unable to fit them. Never had root mealies, but it should work on them, too.

Ug girl root mealies killed off a lot of my plants a couple years ago. I found that the PERLITE i was using had mealies in the bag. So… i just got rid of the substrate, washed the entire plant and SCRUBBED the roots, and used clean substrate. I just got mealies again for the first time in ages so im at a point where im about to just bake all my substrate before i use it. Yeah definitely check the roots of the plants on that shelf and clean and wipe your surfaces and tools!

We bought our first house shortly after we were married in 1969, and we were always very much together. After coming up to being married for almost 56 yrs, you really get to know each other. One person will say the exact same thing the other started to say, you know what each other is thinking, literally. It's quite the ride. But people give up way too easy these days, to us, our marriage vows really did mean a lot, we've gone through thick and thing, every couple does. But never even enough to spilt up. Or even think about it.

You handled all of the questions about your relationship with your boyfriend with such grace. I'm happy for you two and hope that it works out this time. You seem very happy and deserve to be happy! Also, I wish that I had the will and liked enough things other than meat to be vegan. I too love animals so so very much and hate how things are in the industries that produce meat and animal products. Kudos to you for doing you and standing for what you're passionate about! I just hatched out eggs from my friend's flock back in March of this year. They aren't laying eggs yet (not sure what's going on with them because typically they should have by now) but I love them so much! People don't realize the personality that is packed into those little fluffy butts! I love my roosters too! I joined a facebook group called Rooster Allies which is a group that encourages people to be patient with their roosters and embrace them. I have a couple who peck at my feet and legs when they want to be held (I know that's what they're doing because they don't peck me while I'm holding them, but if I put them down they peck again wanting to be held, lol). I'm going on like the crazy chicken lady that I've become, lol...but all that said, I think that you would love having rescue chickens. They're a great pet to have and very fun to watch. Loved the long video and hope the root mealies weren't too stressful and are eradicated!

My advice for root mealies (currently have them too) take cuttings and ditch the original root ball. That's been my plan of action so far. I've had about 70 plants with them. Just FYI about your neighbour's and the fence. The law is only 6 ft for your fence but there's no max height of trees. So you can plant a tree fence and that can grow as tall as you desire! It is obviously more maintenence but also more privacy!

Love that you are being sponsored for tea since you drink so much and I love that you promote drinking tea - not enough folks see it for the amazing beverage and self care that drinking tea brings. Gonna check them out x

Yes! Im so glad you cut the roots off. Root mealies are a BEAST to try and treat any other way. Check EEEVERYTHING near it they crawl along shelves into other plants.

I've been using barrinas for several years and have the same experience. Each plant has a sweet spot to find, I end up using various sized risers to position them and it has a fun visual effect :)

I am so glad you told us a little bit more about your relationship situation. I think that's really all we wanted, no details or not really something personal but just some information on what's going on & if everything is alright because like you said, these on-off things can be toxic and I think a lot of your followers were just worried. I also read the comment spreading rumors and was not sure what to think of it so I am very glad you cleared that up. Because in the end, your relationship sounds like something very, very beautiful. IMO, most relationships don't end because people don't love each other anymore, they end because of the individual people not being able to work on their repetitive, unhealthy patterns & trigger responses from the past and think it's easier to just break it off (which shouldn't sound judgemental at all because it surely is one of the major things in life to work on oneself and its friggin hard). So hearing and seeing that you guys love each other so much that you just continued fighting and didn't stop because deep within you knew you are loving each other and that it is your own responsibility to work on yourselves and make it work is deeply inspiring. It goes back to the saying that everything can be repaired and nothing needs to be thrown out the window unnecessarily. Long comment but I am one of these unapologetically romantic, hopeful optimists that always believe that it can work out if you truly love each other and you guys are a prime example for this. You are not giving up on each other and what you practice is basically what everyone desires: unconditional love. You accept the fact that humans are not perfect and accept each other's flaws but still choose to fight through the triggers together. Because thats what a relationship between two people is: triggering each other and revealing unhealthy patterns to get a chance to work on them. People think they need to be on their own to work on these behaviours but if you don't get triggered you can't work on it. The goal is not to find someone who doesn't trigger you but to find someone who can handle it. And that's the best thing that can happen. People tend to leave when it gets uncomfortable and reflecting on your own behaviour & seeing that you tend to flee in moments like this but at the same time trying to break these past patterns is incredibly inspiring. Lots of love, Kat.🌼 Also: Did you see any changes in your health regarding following the whole foods diet?! I am vegan and aaalways want to do the whole foods thing because I wanna be as healthy as possible but I just love cooking with oil and eating processed foods so I am curious 😂

Omg you are so cute 😍😱 the reaction to the bird outside was so adorable 🥺 New fear unlocked, thankfully I am pest free except for fungus gnats, but wow now I am scared. Did you think of using systemic? Thank you for all the answers, really don't feel pressured to answer questions about your relationship, like I am grateful you did as we care about you of course. But you keep what you wanna keep, girl 🫶🏻

I got this infestation months ago on a scindapsus and I just sprayed the whole plant with raid and quickly threw the whole plant in dish soap water and rinsed it off. The plant survived and recovered months later.
