Love this!! "I am the parent and this is how it's going to be" is a parenting skill that seems to be falling by the wayside these days. Thank you for sharing that with the world. A lot of parents these days just want to be their kids "friend" and it's not a good choice. As an educator, I love how grounded and down to earth both of you are!

So you can say "I am the teacher and this is how it's going to be". Teachers should use that. Give them structure in class even if they do not get it at home. They cannot disrupt the milieu. One thing my daughter said always interrupted her concentration was a teacher talking to another student from across the room instead of going to the student or the student going to the teacher. Blake I hope you have a good year teaching.

Loved the question about Laura’s early teen years. I yearned for guidance at that age but my parents didn’t want to be bothered or whatever! To all of you parents out there your children need you to watch over them as teens as carefully as you watched them as toddlers and young children!!! Laura is SO LUCKY to have such a wonderful Mom!

Agreed with this wholeheartedly. The questions about mom/Laura’s relationship really warmed my heart but also made me yearn for that type of connection with my own mother. Bittersweet for sure. PARENTS: your kids won’t remember every name brand item you bought them, but they WILL remember when you were there for their sports and how you cared for them. Absolutely loving these Q&A’s. Laura, I hope you continue this “series” with mom and maybe even dad too!
@KODoch482 жыл бұрын
Totally agree … You’re not your child’s “friend,” you’re so MUCH MORE important than what a child perceives and defines as their friends! Remember, the job of a parent is to guide your little human into adulthood, thoroughly prepared for a pretty varied and many times rough world out there, and that’s NOT what their friends do for them! A parent’s goal should be in the end of your parenting job when your children are adults … you’d want them as the best of “friends”! Seems that’s exactly where Laura’s and her mother have ended up! 😊👍🏻

I agree Angela Engler. I was #7 of 8 kids and felt invisible as a child and teen and still feel the same at 63. My Mom is a wonderful person, even at 92. It used to bother me that things weren't explained to me. It also didn't help my cause by being excruciatingly shy. That is why I so admire Laura's relationship with her Mom.

These sweet "fireside" chats with your beautiful and inspiring mom are some of my favorites! Well, everything @Garden Answer is my favorite. So much wisdom, inspiration and insight emanates from her. It's wonderful to hear your mom's beginnings and how your family has grown and flourished because of your parents' loving care and strong faith, wisdom and work ethic. And I love her gentile and elegant style of "romancing the ordinary." People always ask why I use my good china, glassware and cloth napkins at family and company dinners. It's just what your mom was sharing. Make every moment as special as you can. Like our gardens, we are only here for a short time. Make it beautiful while you can.

I have laughed hysterically at the "watermelon over the phone" customer interaction. I worked for a short while in customer service for a public service clothing company. A guy calls in and says, "I want a shirt just like the one I have on." After questioning him on what brand, style, etc. he says, "I don't know, it's just like the one I'm wearing." At that point I had to remind him we're on the phone and I can't see what he has on! 😂

LOL Great story! When I was a teenager I worked at a Pizza Place. I was new and still in training and they had me answering the phones. I got a call from a customer that asked me "How much for your large females?" and I hung up on him! I walked over to my boss with a disgusted creeped out look on my face and I said "A man just called and asked how much our large females are" My boss said "If he calls back, tell him he can take Peggy (my coworker) for 20 bucks" and he jokingly punched a male coworker in the arm and they both started laughing. Then he explained that our business phone number was one number different from a seafood place down the street that sold crabs. The guy on the phone, thought he called the seafood place and wanted large female crabs! I was relieved. I was soo freaked out.

Laura & Susan thank you so much for all your great answers. You are such a beautiful family. I am 70 years old and use to be an avid gardener but poor health has made me limit what I can and can not do. My husband does his best to keep up with what I can no longer do . I tried to pass my love of gardening onto my 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter but just the middle child, my son was bitten by gardening like me. My older son loves house plants and my youngest child , my daughter who I had at 42 is just now trying her hand at growing some vegetables. She has two babies, a 13 month old little boy and a 30 month old little girl! So she has her hands full to say the least. My mom, sister and I had a very close relationship my entire life. Our mom is gone now and I cherish those memories. Enjoy each and every memory, each celebration of laughter and every day together the Lord gives you all. I am always so in awe at all you do Laura and how you never get tired of mother nature and her gifts no matter how many times you may have experienced it, you always delight in seeing it bloom and thrive again!

Yes, what a special treat. I think I would spend many a hot day respite under a shade tree reading these journals to my little grandgirls & boys. My grandmother's journals were not shared; and, she was the best gardener I ever knew, ever. I loved being in her "yards". I remember the transients from the railroads knocking on the back door knowing she would have fresh produce or canned produce she would share with them; having their tattered hat in hand saying, "Bless you Ms Kathrine, bless you". I also learned about hard work, pride and how to bond toward the wise ones. I only wish I knew whom (Aunt Terrie) had hidden my grandmother's and great grandmothers journals, and would pass them down to me and my daughters, and soon to be my greats. They would mean the world to me! Yes, a precious gift indeed. I better get back to my own journaling. Lol, my journal is a gardening tragedy, ha ha ha ha, until I found Garden Answer in 2017.

I really enjoy the interactions between these two gals. Whether they are shopping together or these Q &A’s. I’m not surprised at all that there are no “secrets” between them. This is perfection in family relationships from my point of view. 💚💚💚

Loving these q&as. I am learning so much about gardening. I have been gardening for 30 plus decades. Since watching your channel I have learned even money. I am very grateful for channel.

My husband and I have a standing Friday happy hour where we get home after work and have cocktails and walk my garden and talk about our future plans. I love it!

It is nice watching you and your Mom answering questions at the same time reminiscing your childhood. I for one is interested with your grandma's journal. I am sure it is a mountainful of golden garden nuggets as well as alittle bit of history.

Laura, I simply love these questions and answer videos with you and your beautiful Mom...💖... getting to know you both, as well as all of your gardening knowledge, wisdom, experience and video's...🥰 You are so very blessed to have such a beautiful, loving, grounded and down to earth parent's and family to continue to learn from, share and bless your families and children's lives...🥰💖🥰... which are one's most precious and greatest assets in life!! Family is everything...🥰💖🥰 What ever you do... each day Laura, with utmost respect and love for you ... let your Mom, Dad, Eric, Benjamin and Samantha Grace (?) each "NEW DAY"... just HUG THEM TIGHT a LITTLE LONGER, GIVE THEM an EXTRA KISS, TELL THEM how much YOU LOVE THEM, how PROUD YOU ARE of THEM, and HOW THEY have IMPACTED your LIFE and CHANGED IT for the BETTER...💖🕊💖🕊💖🕊💖🕊 No matter how tired... fustrated... or ...upset you (we) maybe on any given day... 🤔 please, REMEMBER how extremely BLESSED you "all" truly are...🥰 BECAUSE... on any given day... 😪 "They... anyone of them... may NOT WALK BACK THROUGH YOUR DOOR... 😪 ... WHEN EVENING FALLS!!!! NOT everyone is BLESSED to have or even know their parent's, or have their spouse or children still with them...🕊🕊🕊🕊 May, God continue to richly bless, guide and protect you and your beautiful families...💖 You and your Mom would be awesome neighbor's...💖🥰💖 I too, love to garden, cook and bake from scratch and love to eat and entertain and spend time with those I love... #making #precious and #priceless #memories... 🥰💖🥰

Hello Ladies, I was truly blessed this morning to watch the Q & A. Love the honesty you both shared and the words of gardening wisdom. So, me and my family have a saying... "We are the greedy club". On any given day, my children will show up and before you know it, we're cooking and the house is hopping. We love the family time and the unity it brings. Thank you for sharing and the inspiration!

Your Mother is such a sweet kind person. How lucky are all of you to have her bless your lives with her sunshiny personality that just drips love from her heart. She just exudes warmth, kindness, joy, love in a softness of strength and character. Gosh I pray she has a total healing in her leg and foot so she can get back into her life unencumbered from its ravage. She gracefully has taken on the enormous seriousness of this injury and has made light of its current disability to her daily life. I pray it doesn't have any lingering long term effects in her mobility. Even one bit! That would be awful and just unkind to her beautiful heart that she gives so easily and shares openly that influences others lives in so many ways. So my prayers for her is a total healing free from pain and it inhibiting her in any way moving forward. God's Blessings❤️

It is a SMALL WORLD. Ron and Susanne are my husband Mike's god parents. They also did our wedding flowers. I absolutely love them. The Flower Trunk was such a wonderful place. I loved their house. They were the best hosts. I miss Ron so much and sad Susanne moved away. I love your channel Laura and I'm just thrilled that we have this connection. Ron and Susanne are the best. They inspired me to get into flowers. I remember going to Boise with them to pick out all my wedding flowers. Susanne never accepted a penny and was always so generous. Their house was so magical. Such good memories. I remember going home with "starts" from Susanne's garden.

This was so pleasant!!! Please do more parts until your beautiful mom heals!!!! When I look at her she always makes me think of Goldie Hawn with those smiling eyes and a smile that lights up a room. Her kindness, positivity and encouragement should be what every child is gifted with and the world would be such a better place! Thank you for sharing your mom with us Laura and I’m glad you are staying cool inside. 🌷🌷🌷

Loved the Q & A. Your relationship reminds me of what good friends my Mom and I were. Now that she is gone, I realize just how much I learned from her and how much I appreciate thshe taught me to love gardening and all the tops she taught me about appreciating nature and how important to make your environment beautiful. Your Mom's home is so inviting and welcoming like your lovely home. I love when you two go antique shopping. While I have learn a to of good advice from your videos, I think I have learned even more about relationships that are loving, fun and joyful. Your Mom is my kind of "Peppy" & you are so lucky to have one another. Tell your Mom Happy Birthday and I know you will all enjoy the celebration meal.

You two lovely ladies should have a podcast called „All things pretty” talking about your gardens, plants in general, home decor, food, antiques. Listening the both of you was such a delight.
