Gwent | RETURN OF THE ALUMNI IN 10.7

After several seasons Northern Realms Alumni feel playable once again. This is my updated version for 10.7 with Runemage which I've always wanted to include in this deck. In this video I talk about card selection, reasoning and strategy before playing 4 games with live commentary for reference.

As I've been mentioning before, Triss: Telekinesis is an amazing fit into most Mage decks. Triss into Runeword is a lot of Spellweaver charges, she can use the opponent's removals if need be, and with the Runemage her consistency is quite stellar. And if you're low on scraps or fear Arnaghad, replace Margarita with Dorregaray. He's a Mage too.

Good to see you back with decks that wreck. I used to HATE mages but now there are so many other more annoying, super popular things that this is making me consider playing them since they've dropped out of vogue (unless you put them back in...)

NR Mages is just so fun and wholesome. I remember when the first cluster of Patience mages dropped; at the time I was devotion with Viraxas to reset Gerhart. Good times. Lost a lot of games, won a lot, the bronze mages have some trouble generally with low bodies, row-locked, no zeal...but some of the most fun I have ever had in the game. Awesome stuff QC, inspiring even! Makes me want to go dust off NR Mages and get them onto ladder. Great content!

@@tou-send4349 Hard to find something worse than the Nekker and the Sihil. A fair bit of control prevents much of the Alumni's bite (in fact, most Skellige and Nilfgaard decks outright steamroll the Patience-heavy NR Mages). Driving NR Mages properly - especially Gerhart - requires planning and on-the-fly decisions to survive control.

@@MyOtheHedgeFox this tells me you weren‘t playing when alumni was meta. it was literally unbeatable, even with then-good control decks (SK reckless flurry was my main and this still lost to alumni in pro 7 out of 10 times). there were just too many threats at all times. yes nekker was annoying but at least there was more than one viable deck and they nerfed it after one season. i mean i got to pro against nekker with self wound SK and mushy truffle practicioners, both decks that don’t even play the card

What a great deck! I am going to try a slight deviation of this. Dwimveandra, 1x Casting Contest and Vial out. Ale + 1x PMP and Istredd in. In all the games you showed in this video it looked like Dwimveandra was a dead card and looks hard to sequence even when played correctly. I agree Vial is very good could still put it in instead of 1x PMP or Ale. Istredd feels like a must though. In my experience, if you do not draw your cards in round 3 the games can just be over. Using Istredd to fix your hand can seriously save many games. Since we're not really thinning a lot, tutors or extra mulligans are super important.

The only thing I will say to defend Dwim is that when she pops the reset it is wild. I played against somebody who double-dwimmed their scenario and they ended up with 5 Spellweavers. The greed was outstanding but I imagine that is wildly inconsistent. I agree overall though not a card I would pick first.

As Q mentioned at that point, he was afraid the round would continue - the Treasure Huntress would continue infusing stuff with coin generation while spending that coin in the process. Besides, the opponent had Bincy going: with a spender like the Treasure Huntress, Bincy could've outpaced the Townsfolk exchange with a good play.

There's so much control on the ladder Qcento, everything from Pirates to Nilfgard control to Precision Strike. This deck is not workable for me right now.

I am playing Mutagenerator Siege on ladder and it is doing pretty well. Even annoying Renfri or cat lists cant compete with the amount of removal and the Henselt + Foltests pride combo with stockpile charges is very strong. The worst matchup is onslaught because of the armor besides that it is very competetive in my opinion!

Ok I played this deck 8 games. All loses against various type of decks. Almost every mechanic screws this deck. Shields and every deck that can do solid damage. Even with perfect draws this deck seems to not handle anything.

I found that adding Artifact Compression, and aiming to get Artifact Compression from Gerhart at Patience 5, improves the Mages deck considerably. It's a Spell that also resets a single unit's value: great tall punish, very convenient lock, charges your Spellweavers.
