One of the things I love about Freddie is how he totally was unapologetically himself. When a bunch of people would have gotten dental work once famous (or to help get famous) on their "imperfect" teeth, he didn't because he was worried it might hurt his vocal range or change the way his mouth formed the notes, and also he loved himself the way he was. Really beautiful.

The amazing thing about Queen is they all wrote songs and all had number 1 hits. Queen doesn't have any distinct sound or style other than it's 'music for the people'. Best band ever.

One of the rare instances where you will see Queen lip synching. They didn't like doing it and usually sounded better live. This was their first big hit and the rest is history. Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon... Legends

You can think of the whole Queen catalogue as a vast library of styles and expressions. ‘Killer Queen’ is merely one book in the library. Keep exploring! Also, Queen the studio band, and Queen the live band are very different sounding. People gravitate towards the dynamics of the live performances (which are amazing!), and miss out on the out-of-this-world studio productions. The studio albums (particularly the first 5) are like nothing else you will ever hear. Suggestions: ‘March of the Black Queen” , It’s Late”, ‘Death on Two Legs”, “Liar”, “The Prophet’s Song”, “Dragon Attack”... Don’t forget, at this time (60’s through the 70’s) albums were designed and intended to be played whole. They are each a journey through a particular landscape. It’s great to hear singles, but they mean something different when heard in their proper context.

I know a lot of people are going to suggest Somebody To Love live at Montreal '81 and rightly so, it's a great performance, well worth watching. May I also suggest White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon '75. The musical interlude in it is spine tingling, the way Brians guitar and Freddies piano battle it out, but also intertwine gets to me everytime. Also a personal favourite of mine is Death On Two Legs, a diss track aimed at their former manager who was ripping the band off. Usually I recommend live performances for Queen as they were so amazing live, but for Death On Two Legs I recommend the studio/lyric version as it really shows off the venom in Freddies voice. Don't forget their 20 minute set for the charity concert Live Aid at Wembley in 1985. It has been voted the best live rock performance ever more than once and despite it not being their crowd (the tickets sold out before they were added to the bill) and there being many other big acts also on the bill, they stole the show.

Awesome! The best part about Queen is they don't mean one thing or have one type of music. Even now they are a breath of fresh air! I highly recommend "my fairy king", "good old-fashioned lover boy" live at earl's court, Crazy little thing called love, "you take my breath away" at Hyde park, and for a change of pace "Liar" and "stone cold crazy" both live at the rainbow. Stone cold crazy practically gave birth to slash metal. I also recommend warning song "flick of the wrist" live at the rainbow. its a precursor to diss track death on two legs, warning that with their first manager, it was like signing a deal with the devil. Your in for a wild ride. enjoy!

Props to you if you understood the lyrics. I grew up on this song and I just recently looked up the lyrics what I thought they were saying and what Freddy actually said two completely different things. Most people say the song is about a high clap prostitute. In the movie bohemian or Bohemian Rhapsody I forget what it's called I think they mentioned that it was possibly written about his agent for somebody that work 4 the labeled. Judging by the second or third comment I got the impression you haven't reacted to Bohemian Rhapsody. But that was 10 months ago so if you haven't that's a mutt. Queen songs run the gamut. And you do need to check out their 1985 appearance at Live Aid. Most music historian, certainly Rock the story Inn, say that it is the best 20 minutes live performance ever. Freddie Mercury could command us staying and an audience like nobody then or since. Another reactor said that the other band were upset and wanted to go home because Queen so dominated and they were just phoning it in. Other fun song Blinded by the Light find Manford Man Earth band, Ballroom Blitz by sweet. Another song that you will be greatly amused by in fact your jaw will drop is on America's Got Talent find Ray Jessel. The video is titled 84 year old man sings hilarious song. He wrote it and you will be taken completely by surprise.

Killer Queen is about a high class prostitute. Death on 2 Legs is the one about his first recording label (though I've read Freddie said its not specifically about them )

God I feel Just.so.old ... The vid is Queen on a UK weekly charts program called Too Of The Pops and I must have seen it (everyone watched it) as a kid. A few years later I was about the age you guys are now and discovering Billie Holliday - her stuff was 30-40 years old then like Queen is now, she had died tragically young like Freddie Mercury did. Roger Taylor: " Killer Queen is so Freddie!". Lol " let them eat cake she said, just like Marie Antoinette".. This was the song that made them STARS! It was their second top 10 release but the one that I think got up to number two in the UK and made it big in the USA. Freddie Mercury could sing 4 octaves, but the drummer had this incredible voice as well and he could sing the highest pitch of anybody and then drop down and sing in a low voice as well.
