Thanks, will be doing my sons R56 Cooper S this week. Confirmed what we thought on investigating.

I like to run a bead of ultra black sealant in the gasket groove. It helps keeps the gasket in place when installing and also adds a little extra strength on the seal it’s self. Also when installing the oil filter gasket I find it much easier to install the turbo oil drain line on the oil filter housing first then once the housing is installed I install on the turbo with the 8mm bolt. I can’t for the life of me get the drain line seated on the housing if I leave the drain line on the turbo and then try and slide it onto the housing. Just a couple helpful hints. This job isn’t bad and the most daunting part is the service mode but after you do it once you’ll understand what you’re doing and it will go much faster and smoother. Also make sure you buy a new v clamp for the exhaust, you’ll never get the old one seated again as it’s become to tight to get over both sides of the down pipe and mid pipe from being clamped down for so long, a new one will slide right on with a new gasket to boot.

2:10. Didn't know I thath there was a secondary mini water pump in THP. I came here to see your video because some other gay in another video was saying that that was a heather of recirculation oil. Thank you .

Ah I see. Yes, the wiring is too small for sufficient current for any kind of heater. If you ever need a replacement, it’s referred to as an auxiliary water pump.

Did you do 'service mode' and push front bumper/chassis out? or just remove CAT, heat shields, etc?
@tadsworkshop2 ай бұрын
@@stiksandstones nope. Just as you see here, I never had to bother with removing the front bumper or radiator support. Just remove cat, heat shields, etc. an inspection mirror is handy so you can see around corners.

Would this be the same procedure for a 2013 Countryman 1.6? What's the labor time on a job like this?
@tadsworkshop10 ай бұрын
Same procedure. If you’re asking what shop flat rate labor time is, I have no idea offhand. But if you’re tackling this personally, depending on your skill level, it might take 2 hours to 8, depending if bolts break on the exhaust, etc.
@crunchytacosupreme937110 ай бұрын
@@tadsworkshop did a bolt break with you?
@tadsworkshop10 ай бұрын
@@crunchytacosupreme9371 not that I recall, but I’ll carefully look at the hardware before I remove it. If I think a bolt will likely snap on me, I might apply heat with a torch before I apply any serious torque on it.

Can i do it without draining the oil? Cheer
@tadsworkshop5 ай бұрын
@@jamesmore8516 yep. You’ll obviously spill a little oil when you remove the filter housing, but not that much. No need for an oil change.

I have a 2012 S with N18. Can this be done without putting the frontend in service mod?
@tadsworkshop Жыл бұрын
Definitely, for the particular car in this video, I never took the front end off. The job is a little tricky, and will test your patience, but it is doable without putting the car into service mode.

How long did it take you
@tadsworkshop Жыл бұрын
Probably 2-3 hours. I had to deal with damaged threads at the turbo from someone who worked on it previously. Like anything else, times will vary widely from person to person.
