GOOD GOD WAS HE ANNOYING!!! * The Story Was weak, below what we expect from Pixar. *Most of the movie was either boring or hair tearingly irritating *The BEST Characters: The Mom and the mantacore get LESS Screentime because BARLEY was more important * I really liked Ian but its said he let Barley WALK ALL OVER HIM. He should've had the chance to see his father but NOPE Barley stolen that chance * I was disspointed it wasant the fairytale fantasy i THOUGHT i was gonna get from the premise. Its just Dungeon and Dragons the movie and it does not appeal to me i can go on and on but i wont because i dont wanna bore you guys XD but yeah i was seriously disappointed. i admire that people who had no father growing up look up to this but 1. I DO have a father so it doesn't really impact me 2. I have a little sister which is one of the reasons i relate to Frozen more (Frozen is SO MUCH BETTER) but the director has potential to do something great since he did a great job with Monsters Universety. How did you get "Barley was more important" from the fact that they got less screen time? Most of the time like about 80% of his screen time Barely was with Ian Barley didn't walk all over Ian Barley wanted to take the "path of peril" or whatever he called it and Ian said no Barley respected that and went on the expressway instead showing that he listens to his brother and doesn't walk all over him if anything Ian's the one who walked all over Barely by refusing to do things his way in the first place even though he knew more about magic than Ian did Barley didn't steal Ian's chance to see his father Ian realized that Barely needed to see him more than he did because Barley did for him all the things his dad would've done and Barely needed to say goodbye if Ian had went instead then it would've only left him feeling guilty about being the one to see their dad sorry for the rant I just finished watching the movie like 30 mins ago :)
@DISTurbedwaffle9184 жыл бұрын
As for the movie, I thought the premise made perfect sense. It can be used as a metaphor for how technology and modernity replaced a lot of traditional cultures and values, and rendering many areas of craftsmanship almost extinct. Like, when's the last time you saw a hand-made vehicle? Or the last time you needed to call up a blacksmith to make you some nails for your shed? I think that's at least part of the inspiration in the movie, that a lot of these things, while amazing and beautiful, were abandoned in favor of advancing technology, which could do a lot of the same jobs more cheaply and efficiently. Whether that's good or bad is up to anyone to decide, but those who had potential to be great craftsmen are nevertheless left with no one to craft for. People like Ian, who have potential to be wizards, have no one to do magic for, and he almost had no one to teach him.

While I can agree on some things you said, all of your examples are just one method of production replacing another. I can understand losing some sense of magic that is just as easy or more reliable to do with technology--like healing being replaced with hospitals, or something like that, but what modern day replacement is their for walking on air, growing/shrinking things, or raising people from the dead?

Your comment sorta reminded me of how the knowledge and techniques of traditional animation are virtually lost today. Apparently, not a lot of animators know how to animate like that nowadays, and that naturally causes a lack of traditional animation teachers at art/animation schools.

And he knew the history behind it. Alot people celebrate Christmas or Halloween, but not many people know the history behind it. Alot of people like to celebrate things or represent where they're from, (California, or their City or even their Country) but don't know the history of the land or even their flag. Coco reminds me to know and celebrate family and home traditions. Onwards reminds me to know the history, to be grateful for what you have and have had. Alot of military personnel know the Birthday of the branch they serve, your more closer to it once you know the history, and that could be for whatever, military branch, animation, arts, traditions, home country, cultures and even Subcultures (Like Hip-hop, Rock, Goth, or even Emo).

as a Dungeons and dragons fan I loved this movie. there were points that I feel you didn't really touch on also there was a small line about hoping that there is enough magic in Ian to use the spell that line was in the note with the staff. to me that was a way to address (along with Barley not being able to use the staff) that not only do you need to understand magic buy you have to have it in you to use it in the first place. Things that made me supper happy about this movie that you didn't touch on was the mother. She wasn't just a throw away side character as most mothers tend to be in coming of age type stories (like this kinda felt like to me) she rose up to help her boys and to save them. Her friendship with the mantacore was very organic and really a refreshing change of pace to see. In general the facial expressions and just over all body language of all the characters in the movie were so organic and so real. especially Barleys response to the rope coming untied. that hit me hard. sorry i got to rambling i just wanted to share my feelings on the movie too.

Humans remembering history isn’t always true. Until recently, modern humans did not know how the romans made concrete that could last thousands of years. It wasn’t until 2017 that the recipe was found. Tons of important knowledge from ancient times has been forgotten by modern humans. I could see if there was a low success rate, maybe due to a combination of an inherited aspect along with study and dedication, it could cause a species to reject that knowledge as only a handful would be potentially able to learn it. And if you’re in a feee society, you can’t make sine be a wizard if they don’t want to be even if they are the only person with the magical aptitude to be one.

I watched onward in theatres. While the virus was going on. It was a school trip to this movie. And I cried my eyeballs out in the end. In my opinion this movie was really. REALLY good. Again it's my opinion, you can have other opinions about this movie, but this is MY opinion. I have two siblings, a older brother and a little sister. Watching this movie makes you realize how important your siblings are in your life. Even the differences, and flaws, your sibling/s have they are still your family. And the memories you have with them are one of the precious things you have. They will always be there for you, sure you might fight a lot. But still. Which I can for sure. I've never related so much to a character before Ian. And my brother is legit just like Barley. The way they act is the way me and my older brother act with each other. I do have a dad in my life but he's never what I wanted in a father. I've never been close to him. I hardly ever talk to him anymore and there's nothing we have in common. It used to alright when I was younger but ever since I've changed things with him changed. My coming out definitely didn't help either. Barley's memory of not being able to go in and see his dad for the last time hit me so hard. I lost my grandma in 2018 from pneumonia and other factors. She was a sweet lady who always cared for her kids and grandkids. Those last few days in the hospital were agonizing, especially since it looked like she was getting better and then suddenly took a turn for the worse. By the time I got to see her the last time, she was practically unresponsive. I saw my grandpa tightly clutching her hand and crying out about how much he loved her, and I broke and ran out of the room. Grandma died three hours later. I never got to say a proper goodbye. Even at the wake, I went up to see her once and the second I saw her peaceful face in the casket I broke again. Even writing this now I'm shaking through the tears, just as I did while watching that scene in the movie. Onward is one of my favorite movies ever now.

I’m also socially anxious and unsure of myself and my sister refuses to be afraid. So we both really connected to this film. So I sobbed throughout the whole ending. Yeah its kinda strange how many people's complaints are that "its not as great as pixar's best". @@invaderpez12 This exactly bothers me so much. Pixar is cursed for making so many near masterpieces that when they make something more "basic", people are very harsh on it. I feel like Onward would be getting so much more praise if it was made by something like Sony or Illumination.
@asleepyb0i4004 жыл бұрын
@@darryl0745 1. Cause Pixar raised it’s standards way too high when it made it’s earlier movies (Finding Nemo, Monsters INC, Toy Story), and now anything that isn’t a masterpiece made by Pixar is “bad”. If it was made by DreamWorks or Sony, it would be praised so much more. 2. Some people also disliked the movie and refuse to even watch it because of that one scene where a cop reveals she is gay/bi and has a girlfriend. These are mainly homophobes and prejudiced Karens who think it would “warp their children’s brains into thinking they should be following the gay agenda”, which isn’t what was being conveyed at all, not even close. I personally think it was a great move on the studio to be more open to non-traditional families and lgbt. People also thought she was ugly when beauty is subjective and Officer Specter is an absolute queen don’t @ me. They also thought it was bad representation when she qualified as a minor “antagonist”, when she’s just doing her job. Sorry for ranting a bit (you didn’t do anything wrong), Onward is my favorite Pixar movie to date (I grew up on the old Pixar movies like the Toy Story series and Finding Nemo), but I emotionally connect extremely well with Ian, with me having social anxiety, fear of trying new things like driving, and being very close in age to him. I am also a sucker for suburban fantasy themes, so I was excited for Onward when the first trailer came out. Overall, this movie was amazing in my eyes and I wished more people had the chance to see it.

I just want to say that as someone who drives a somewhat beat-up classic car, I found Barley's relationship with his van extremely relatable. The way he loves it in spite of its flaws and knows all its quirks and how to make things work... Like, I felt that. That bond is something I understand completely, and the moment when Barley had to sacrifice the van so he and Ian could get away... That gave me the feels, man! I imagine some people watching that scene might've thought it was funny that he was so sad to send such a crappy van to its doom, but for me that was one of the most emotional parts of the movie. I would feel the same way if I had to do the same thing. I understand how big of a sacrifice that was, and that made the scene much more meaningful to me. I've never seen that kind of relationship portrayed so accurately in any other movie... Just goes to show how brilliant Pixar's writers are! I love this film :)

something I enjoyed about this movie was, in the end, I realized it had NO VILLAIN. Actualy... no antagonist at all.
