Because every classic Whovian must have a take on Timelash.

My favourite part is that I and these 5 other people get to know. Thank you.

i dunno, it seems fine. also it sucks this episode sucked because the idea of a society building a religion around the doctor after he comes out of nowhere, saves them all from immense evil and fucks off leaving them better off in every way but also with no real idea who the hell he was besides "guy who will suddenly appear to save you and then leaves when your safe" is really interesting

I would like it if a companion left and becomes a villian, but not some mysterious off screen character but a major traveller that left out of bitterness. Wouldn't that be different and creative?

Quinton, when will you take a break from four hour kid's show recaps and review more Doctor Who episodes? Better yet, when will you make a four hour long Doctor Who video?

Interesting! I hope to see more high-quality Doctor Who reviews from you. :)

I usually go out of my way to avoid doing multiple videos on one subject in a row.. But might mark an exception this time.

"I'm of course talking about Light Speed Rescue." Man that would make me so nostalgic if I could remember anything beyond "Hey I watched that as a kid."

The Face of Evil did the idea of the Doctor as the accidental god of a society he previously visited much better. Also, good video, Quinton. Thoughtful and you gave some interesting ideas about an episode not many people actually take the time to analyse

13:02 Speaking of which, there was actually a novel, Speed of Flight, from 1996 which mentions the Third Doctor attempting to take Jo and Mike to Karfel, the planet featured in Timelash, though I still consider your unseen adventures thought to apply nonetheless.

I knew of it, but I decided it didn't really matter in the end. I was discussing how THIS story could have been better -- the continuity notes of a story based OFF of it don't have any real bearing. As I discussed, a world where Timelash was different would be very unique indeed.
@QuintonReviews8 жыл бұрын
In fact the reason I use footage of Mike Yates is because of that novel.

Could this third companion be the one from The Ultimate Adventure? 'Cause that would be interesting.
@QuintonReviews8 жыл бұрын
Not really sure how that would work, since 'UA' came years later. Are you suggesting that in the universe where Timelash was as I prescribed 'UA' would be a prequel? I mean if you say so, haha. When I imagined this 'third companion' in my head he certainly didn't have a fake french accent. *shrugs* I keep seeing a lot of references to spin off novels and such in reference to my theory... Like "but it WAS Mike Yates who was there, according to [novel]." Like if the novel was written afterwards and was based off of the story, how does that effect my video at all? Just a little odd and a little funny.

4:40 It's stories like Planet of Evil or The Face of Evil which I feel do so well in getting a viewer like me to feel as if you're watching someone on an actual alien planet which has little to no resemblance to Earth puzzles me as to why the revived Doctor Who series doesn't do it more. Most of the time, I feel as if an episode from 2005-2016 is set either on Earth or on a spaceship. I knew there are arguments such as money or the new series doing things differently/wanting to make sure they do it right, but for a show which showcases an alien who can travel to any place in any time period, it doesn't feel as if there's as much variety in setting as there could be.

Russel T Davies stated in interviews that he thought that modern audiences wouldn't be able to relate to non-humans on non-Earth-like planets. So the precedent for the show became that 99% of it had to be set on Earth. I agree that it's in for a change -- just shaking that up would already change a lot in the show. I would much rather visit the planet that Rose and 10 were looking at in the first clip of 'Ghosts' than another Earth-clone

I think that any character, no matter what time period, planet, or background they come from, can feel relatable, connected, or understood on any planet to any generation in the case the writers just attempt hard enough. I understand in regards to Series 1 since they were starting out, but for a show which survives on change, it makes me wonder. The same probably could be said for why there's not much difference with the main companions, which mostly comprises of young women from early 21st century UK. Regardless, thanks for the replies. :)
@QuintonReviews8 жыл бұрын
Yes, each companion in my eyes has started to feel like 'diet' versions of those that fell before them. Donna and Amy excluded. Just a little bit of a dynamic change! Please Moffat please!
@electricmastro8 жыл бұрын
Last I heard, Bill (Pearl Mackie) is meant to be a young woman from contemporary times. That came off to me as rather disappointing really, especially after Hell Bent, which I didn't care for. I started to care for Clara less and less to the point of becoming indifferent. I hope Chris Chibnall gives the audience a fresh take on the show, not just in regards to characterizations, but also more variety with settings and the backgrounds of companions. Chris has been familiar with Doctor Who for decades, so I'm sure he has a good enough idea on what to do by the time he officially becomes showrunner. He'll be able to write stories which have little to no influence from Russell T Davies or Steven Moffat, so perhaps we'll see even better material from him.

WHAT Timelash is classic (ok, its bad) but Twin Dilemma is the lowest point in Doctor Who. Magic forests growing overnight is the second worst.
@davidbull72103 жыл бұрын
Timelash is bad and let's keep it that way. The last thing we want is for the worst stories to be rehabilitated out of sympathy. If we do that we'll end up with a new story in which Jodie Whitaker counsels Meglos on a concorde bound for Karfel.
