I swear As Told By Ginger was just "the show that nobody watched", I think I THINK the show had some shitty pop rocky intro theme, but that's literally the only thing besides the horrifying "lets move all the facial features away from the nose" art style. I'd change the channel as soon as I found the remote.
@JimmyneutronwasokayIguess6 жыл бұрын
I liked it as a kid honestly but it was on very rarely so I don’t remember much of it. I do remember that it was really good at showing the insecurities of its lead character but I’m remembering that from years ago so I don’t know if that holds up. The art style is so much more twisted than I remember so I dunno
@JimmyneutronwasokayIguess5 жыл бұрын
Plushypony 94 What did you like about it?
@JimmyneutronwasokayIguess5 жыл бұрын
Plushypony 94 Yeah my thoughts are mostly shared. As a kid I didn’t notice the weirdness of the animation style but I do remember a poem about dealing with the experiences that come to you in life and how you deal with them. Didn’t recall it being specifically about depression but it was the same episode where her brother looks after maggots to torment people with and then gets his comeuppance when they all turn into flies. It was the only episode of the show I actually remember but the show in general always stuck with me. My childhood has a lot of feelings I remember from watching shows but my memories of the shows themselves aren’t always very vivid.

That last ten minutes was infectiously fun, purely because of the amount of joy Quinton was taking in it. I love that it was ironic anger at the show, that went back around to being genuinely angry, and then went all the way back around to being even more ironically angry, to something else entirely. It was this whirlpool of anger that eventually got tired out, but it was still hilarious. I love it. And no that’s not just because I’m high.

That's what's so dangerous about nostalgia, is that until viewing this video, I had the preconceived notion that this was an actually "good" show. Boy, was I wrong. Nostalgia not only blinds judgement, it creates a false reality that nothing was ever wrong in our childhoods, and "because I enjoyed cartoon with a 5 year olds mentality, it surely must hold up over a decade later, right???" In short, nostalgia culture isn't as innocent and feel-good as it seems, and is more of marketing scheme centered at abusing our poor memory and portraying a false reality that (insert show name here) is soley responsible for our totally "perfect" and "awesome" childhoods.

@leonidaslemonis1277 жыл бұрын
There's different types of clickbait. There's the misleading type, which adds something on the thumbnail or names the video something that doesn't appear in, and may have nothing to do with the video in question. And then there's the overhyping type, which uses flashy and colourful imagery in the thumbnail, and really exaggerated titles, in order to catch your eye, and fool you into believing that the subject of the video is way more interesting, exiting, and worth your watch, than it actually is. Phillip Defranco is guilty of the latter, whilst this video is, of the former. Not that I give a shit either way. I think both cases are hilarious, at least in these respective contexts.
