He was loved and treated like that couples own child but as soon as his bio mom/S scammer became more important he tried selling OP’s house underneath her. I get that adopted kids aren’t supposed to be obligated to be grateful to their absolutely loving and wonderful adoptive parents that did nothing but treat them like their own flesh and blood, but come on. It's so important to call authorities after an accident! Last year I got into a bad car accident, some kid wasn't paying attention and drifted into the wrong lane going way too fast and hit me head on. Driver to driver impact. But, the way he hit my van, even though his car was smaller, both cars ended up actually flipping around on the road and so while I was originally in the right lane my car actually ended up facing completely the opposite direction in the left lane. If no one had witnessed it and no authorities had been called he probably could have said I was the one who hit him. But between the witness, happened literally right outside my neighborhood so I was actually familiar with the people who saw it, and the police report remarking on the conditions of the vehicles and the way the tire marks were they couldn't even try to argue that I was at fault.

The “All You Can Eat” Story kinda reminded me of one episode of CatDog. You enjoy an AYCE meal, but are suddenly hit with a bill that’s ten times the asking price, with the manager explaining that he wants the expensive amount of money to pay off the price of the building and such! THAT’S shady here in this story, whether the owner of the eatery is right or wrong! Get the police involved, because those people ARE pulling something! Unless you ordered something that equals that amount, then they have to honor the price you owed for the AYCE meal, not just make you pay a higher price for a stupid reason. Take the manager to a small claims court and see what a judge says. They’ll more than agree with OP’s argument, because it DOES sound like the owner’s trying to pull something here. CatDog showed one of the best episodes that showed about the “Bait and Switch” scam. Rancid displayed the price of the food in a TEENY TINY note, and no other signs of the prices of the AYCE buffet. He also broke the health code by leaving a clogged toilet left uncleared, and broke another law by forcing the patrons to “work off their debts” in unsafe conditions: CatDog about to work on unclogging the toilet without any kid of decent cleaning supplies or even some kind of protective gear, not counting the plunger and such. I LOVE sushi. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. That said, for a while (about 10+ years ago) where I live, a Bait And Switch AYCE Sushi scam popped up. They had rules that sound normal on the surface, but are ridiculous when you see them in practice. For example, one rule was that you had to order nigiri sushi in 8 pairs. Nigiri usually comes as a 2 piece thing, so 8 pairs, you're getting 16 pieces of the same nigiri (A piece of fish over shari - sushi rice). The catch, they don't just charge you for the pieces you didn't eat, they charge you for all 16. Another rule - leaving the sushi rice behind counts as "not eating the sushi". Again, sounds normal in practice, because you don't want people wasting food. The catch? They LOADED everything with rice. the aforementioned nigiri? 4oz of rice to a paper thin slice of fish. A California roll? Basically all rice, a hunk of cucumber, and a thin smear of the imitation crab/mayo mix. Don't share with other people. The catch? this also included your fellow companions with AYCE. Also, they had a little blurb in fine print on an ad, not the menu, that they could revoke your AYCE status at any time, for any reason, and you would be responsible for the whole cost of the regular priced items without warning. They got called out pretty quick (It's a chain) and I stopped going after the first $65 bill for a $21 AYCE lunch, but somehow they have managed to stay open. The weirdest part is, I tried to look up one of the news articles/aired stories to link for, but I'll be damned if they weren't scrubbed somehow. It was big news for a minute, because it was when sushi was really booming and becoming affordably mainstream here, and their "cheaper AYCE ended up being more expensive than ala carte places)

Story 2 - 8:44 - I'm not sure if pushing her adoptive parents aside for her bio-parents counts as conditional love or what it counts as, but it seems close enough that for her to say "I can't believe how conditional your love is!" seems pretty ironic and hypocritical. 11:32 - Now that someone has come right out and called the daughter a con artist, it's got me wondering; do OP and Hubs have any real evidence that their Son-In-Law is in such dire straits or are they taking their daughter's word for it? 3rd story NTA. This reminds me of a story a former co-worker told me about his experience at an all you could eat buffet-style restaurant. Back when he was a high school football player- he and his team would dine at this restaurant. Well as you can imagine, a big group of athletic almost fully grown youths can eat a huge pile. The restaurant managers/ owners tried telling them that they could not eat as much as they did, So they asked wherein the rules was there a limit? The restaurant owners tried charging them more than the initial fee despite cleaning their plates, again where did it say that after a certain limit did they have to pay more? The restaurant owners then banned them from the buffet-style restaurant. This didn't go so well for the restaurant owners as this was a smallish town and the football team was well-loved. So Co-worker and his football teammates boycotted the buffet-style restaurant and called upon others to do likewise, thus forcing the restaurant out of business. I always felt bad for the owners when hearing this story, it honestly sounded to me as if this business was going to go under one way or the other -let the team keep eating there and they close down, don't let them and no one comes to dine. But the owners should have thought of worst-case scenarios such as people eating more than they could keep up with and tailored rules to keep the business afloat. Still, what a harsh lesson.

Sounds to me like the teen driver has been in other incidents while driving already.

Story 3: NTA. Our all-you-can-eat eateries are not like this. There has to be an extreme case of food waste for them to charge an extra fee. OP did eat a piece of the sushi roll along with all the entirety of the other rolls. Seems OP should have just had a fee for the one roll he didn't completely eat.

Story 3 = American here and I have worked in all you can eat buffet restaurants. This is new to me. Both restaurants never charged like this, ever. You pay for the buffet and then you eat what you can eat. I don't believe that this restaurant is in the US. This is bait and switch tactics. NTA. I would get a business lawyer just to get the legalities and not necessarily to sue the restaurant.

Why would bio family's love be more natural. I've heard of adopted children turn into money grubbing AH completely steamrollering the adoptive parent's feelings? I understand that some people adopt solely for the social value it adds to their image, but those are I hope far and few between.

Story2...I don't agree with the last post. The daughter is a user and will dump OP again. I have a half sister, who was adopted and raised by my father (literally signed the marriage license and adoption papers on the same day). She didn't know differently until 17yo. She used the idea of a different father to be grateful that she really wasn't part of the family. She is 61yo. She's been a financial drain on my parents her entire adult life...to their own financial detriment, having to receive help from their other children. She literally lives a better lifestyle than the rest of us, although the rest of us have retirement savings. Her retirement plan is her mother. She first used threats of suicide, then she used her own children as pawns, to manipulate our parents for money. She is the ugliest human being I know...first on the inside, now she is obese grey-haired and toothless so outsides match her insides. The smartest thing OP can do is protect her son from the evil that is the daughter. If my mother had done that, instead of making my sister the golden child, I wouldn't have gone NC to protect myself.

Mark, I also don't like fishy fish, but I LOVE sushi. This is because the fish used in sushi is very clean, and not fishy at all. Try a California roll, then a yum yum roll, then get a spicy tuna roll, then get adventurous with a dragon roll. You might actually love it as well.

Story 2: "Her bio family's love is greater and more natural". EXCUSE ME!!!! Does she mean the people who for whatever reason gave her up like hot garbage? The family who likely never tried to find/ contact her before she no longer needed looking after? Awfully convenient is that In fact if she only started meeting them when she was 23 then that likely means she sought them out first, so she was never even worth bothering with until she showed up. If I were OP, I'd have responded to that by telling her this and adding that We -her father and I chose her, That that has got to be more special than two people who had an oopsy baby or a situation they didn't want to see through and still keep her. That we raised her/ loved her, fed and clothed her, were there for all her ups and downs. Gave her her education and extra financial support when she needed it. That we are as real as it gets when it comes to family and more specifically "real family/ real parents". "She stayed gone for months" then she came back because she needed something- that something is for her brother's future educational benefits, not hers to touch. Sounds like she discarded them already, OP is spot on that she only keeps them around for money. Time to mourn the loss of the daughter/ sibling that OP, her husband, and Son thought they had. NTA.

2: "we're going to support you, but not at the expense of your brother." end of conversation. unconditional love means you have a place to go when you get out of jail after robbing a bank. you may not have any LESS of a claim on your parents just because you've chosen to put your bio-family before your adoptive one, but you'll never have anything more than an EQUAL claim compared to your siblings...

Story 2: NTA. The only person whose love is conditional is the daughter's. She threw away her family like garbage and flat out TOLD them that no amount of love they gave would ever compare to her bio family's love. She burned this bridge. It's not on the parents to repair it, especially considering there's no evidence that helping her would actually repair anything. Daughter seems solely fixed on getting money.

IF the All You Can Eat restaurant doesn't listthe terms and conditions this is truly being a case of the customer being right. What this amount to is bait and switch which is illegal. I'm fairly certaìn that if the resaurant would try to take them to court, but without terms and conditions being spelled out that they would lose. NTA

Story 1: Very hard to make out what OP is trying to say: if her Dad's business is so 'shitty' how is he able to afford to retire and keep a roof over everyone's head? OP is making no sense here.
@TiffWaffles3 жыл бұрын
I think that the issue is that OP wants the employee (who is a young woman herself) to have a future for herself and if she is given a raise by her father at what seems to be a failing business, that she'd make a decision that would ultimately put all of her hopes, dreams and future on hold. She seems like she wants to get into a competitive programme, which means that if she were to stay at her father's business that she'd lose both her place and chances to get back in if she decides that she wants to do it again. I think that is what OP is saying here, not complaining about her own quality of life... At least that is what I gather from this post.

It's pretty typical in 'dying industries'. People who owned Blockbuster Video franchises were making bank in the 90's, if they invested and bought a home, it's not hard to imagine them in a similar situation in the mid-2000s. There are tons of examples of businesses that could have supported a fairly lavish lifestyle a decade or two ago that are being shuttered today.

All you can eat overcharge: You should have told the restaurant "okay, give me back the unfinished roll and charge me the all I can eat price. The food won't be unfinished because I want it back." Really, splitting it into 8 individual charges instead of the all you can eat plus one charge is ridiculous.

S2: I raised my kids bio and bonus/foster kids that we”as a family” chose our bonus kids/siblings, their bio family did not. They all grew up knowing they are loved(even now they are all adults). My kids also know they were chosen, because I refused to abort them even though my cancer was back. I was never to have children after my cervix and uterus were fried from cancer treatments. The doctors wanted me to abort both babies because even though I was in remission at conception, my cancer came back. I waited until both were born to restart my treatments.

Apart from that previous story, I've never heard of "all you can eat" or buffets charging people like that. They don't do that anywhere where I live (at least not that I know of), and it seems pretty scammy. They should have a set price for the food you order. Not surprise you with an outrageous bill after you've finished. I also don't get what difference it makes it you don't finish your food? Maybe next time you're in a restaurant like that, just wrap up the leftovers in a napkin, or chew it up some lol it makes no sense to charge you for what you didn't finish. ESPECIALLY if you're not even allowed to take it home!!
