I COULD drink it while pregnant but have been purposely avoiding it. Pumpkin Spice Latte's one to three times a week and never twice in the same day. I miss the my usual frequency but won't indulge too much at the risk of my baby.

Story 2: That is vary scary and a vary slippery slope that OP shoved his wife off of. First its the diet while pregnant then she has to keep it up for breast feeding then shell be to sick to change back because her body only know X diet. Story 1: "My mom says I was in no place to say anything" I think OP is in a place to say something when 1. They live there and pay for everything, while she doesn't, and 2. Girlfriend is eating so much that she's causing Op to have to spend more on groceries than they would have needed to had she not been there. If she's pregnant, then it should be no issue to take 15-20 minutes max out of your day to buy a few tests, and _prove it._ Refusing to do so makes you look guilty as hell and like you have something to hide. Edit: She needs to find a place of her own anyway, if she's actually pregnant, which I doubt but let's say she is, then I can see her dumping all the responsibility onto OP because she's "Sooo tired 🥺"

I was actually gonna point out that OP made some VERY good points! Also, this could be the GirlFriend's scam to "Baby Trap" to stay for free in OP's home. I think most of the people who chose the YTA answer forgot ONE major clue to GF's bullshit. The GF is drinking 8 ENERGY DRINKS a week from a 23 PACK of Monster! I KNOW that energy drinks aren't very healthy, and pregnant women are smart enough to know what they should or shouldn't eat, that includes what they drink! Another thing, she doesn't mention anything about going to get a ultrasound and sonic-gram or see a doctor, to see how the baby and mother are doing. If GF did try and lie about that, she'll more than likely have someone print out fake documents and signed by a "Doctor". She's one of those people who wants to stay in a relationship, so she can have free home, free food, not work and keep her BF under her control, even making Brother lie as well. Yeah, this DEFINITELY sounds fishy. And the UPDATE, BF and GF are basically just bullshiting around and tried to lie one last time. It doesn't matter who lied first, they were BOTH lying to OP, so OP kicked them both out! Toxicity like that doesn't deserve to have friends or family like OP around them.

The only issue with that is that after a certain point in pregnancy a test is no longer valid unless it's a blood test. If taken too late or inappropriately there could be actually too much of the hormone for a pee test to read, so it still reads negative. But the blood test can be taken at any clinic and is always accurate, so the point stands.

Story 2: the husband and mother in law are literally putting the expecting mom and babies life in danger. The food they are giving her to eat doesn't have enough nutrients to sustain her and the baby. I am willing to bet the reason why she is so sick is because of the horrible diet you put her through. She should eat what she wants to eat and she will be able to keep that down, I would vomit eating unseasoned vegetables with no condiments even if though I am not pregnant. Wife needs to go away from that situation if it doesn't stop, she risks having the baby early or loosing it if she doesn't eat appropriately... Ps: the assumption that spicy foods are bad for pregnancy is completely made up, the only side effect it could have is increase the risk of heartburn, that is it. It doesn't hurt the baby at all.

I had not heard that nursing women need to not eat meat or seasoning. Foods with mercury or high caffeine content yes, but not spices. Some meats have high amounts of added hormones and antibiotics, but organic ones should be okay.

Any meat produced in the USA is almost guaranteed to be free of added hormones. Almost as likely to be free of antibiotics, too. But, yeah, meat and seasonings are fine for nursing women. The first time Mom had a problem that way was with my youngest sister, who's allergic to everything in the mint family.

Story 1: I remember this one, and glad they got it sorted. Whether someone is pregnant or not, they do *not* get to eat all your food. These two have a tremendous amount of growing up to do. NTA. Story 2: Sounds like one of those cultural traditions that needs to be let go. It doesn't sound like he has much empathy for what his wife is going through, considering how difficult the pregnancy seems to be at this point. Just because things are "tradition" doesn't mean they are right. If it is something harmless, who cares, but this is taking a toll on the wife and is therefore, not harmless. YTA. Story 3: I'm guessing this is a teenager. Sure, they could have "handled it better" but considering the way the parents were acting, they didn't deserve OP to act better. I think OP made the ride more memorable for the children who were laughing during the entirety of it. NTA. Story 4: What is wrong with family? "It's okay for your brother to harass and demean your girlfriend and you." is what they are saying. I'd go LC with the lot, because yikes. If he is willing to cross these boundaries, including trying to get the fiancé to sleep with him, what else is he capable of? OP/Fiancé NTA, everyone else can push off.

First story I live on my own and if my brother moved in and his girlfriend started eating so much of my food I’d be worried and a bit mad at the same time I don’t make a lot with my job and disability so replacing food is difficult for me plus who drinks 8 cans of monster in one week whilst pregnant I know it’s different for everyone but generally your doctor would usually recommend to avoid very caffeinated drinks or drinking them to excessive amounts I love coffee and would drink 3 - 5 sachets of instant coffee during a tired spell but the girlfriend is loading her veins to the point of being completely caffeinated this is serious the girlfriend needs help and to buy her own food i don’t really care that she claims she’s pregnant but damn they’re eating op and their brother out of food and yet still feels entitled to the food because she’s pregnant ops NTA

People don't want to acknowledge if their child is a piece of shit because it reflects poorly onto them and they expect the non-shitty kid to just take it for their sake. Felt like an utter failure, but you need food to be able to work and survive. It's wholly unhealthy, for a non-pregnant person to consume *that*, as energy drinks are also not just caffeine but have a bunch of other stuff in them too. I'm actually really glad she's not pregnant, but using OP like that is just insane. I'd consider LC for the brother and NC for his on/off gf because what they did was horrible. I am not sure a lot of people realize the mental/emotional toll having someone else eat all your food can cause, and that is in conjunction with the disrespect. Story 2: YTA there are some HUGE red flags here. Some may be a cultural issue, but why is her DOCTORS not helping with diet and nausea? Why doesn't she have a pregnancy DIETICIAN to help and medsbto help with nausea. Why is MIL forcing her to eat or more concernedly not eat things without the input of a doctor or dietician. This story is really concerning.

As a woman who has been pregnant 3 times, the biggest no-no’s when you’re pregnant is more than 200mg of caffeine per day, unpasteurized foods like honey and egg nog, steak made medium or less, and certain types of fish. The family sounds like they may be East Indian and may be receiving poor information. Either way, they suck and need to let the poor woman eat. When I was pregnant I met with a dietician and tried to follow their guidelines and found fruits like watermelon really good on days when I was more nauseous.

When I was pregnant the first time all my Dr said was cut out sugar, salt and caffeine. I still eat very little salt and drink very little caffeine. But ice cream and chocolate in my late 60's is my weakness. I never had cravings in 3 pregnancies.

In the first story, I don't think that the girlfriend is pregnant, however, when I was pregnant with my son, my doctor didn't care what I ate as long as I was eating. I ate as health as possible though. After hearing the update though, I am glad that the O.P. kicked them out. And it's not surprising that both the girlfriend and brother were lying.

I was pregnant with my twins at the beginning of the pandemic. I still got ultrasounds on the regular (well for twins regular i.e. every month instead every other because with multiples you have higher risks.) The ONLY things that changed were: 1. At a certain point I could only attend the appointments by myself no one else in the room. 2. When delivering only my husband could be there (or just one person of my choosing). 3. Only my husband could come visit me in the hospital and he was restricted to my room. He could not go to the NICU with me to see our babies until release. Point being assuming this couple was in the US it all sounds very suspicious. There most certainly were more precautions and restrictions because of the pandemic but I still got regular care for my pregnancy. Just heard the update, knew it. I wish OP the best after having family like that.

Story3: my family and i went to an amusement park and we were all in one car except for two people. my auntie wanted just us in the photo but my mother told her no since she wanted to ask the two people to duck down as well. well when the photo from the rollercoaster came out the photo of the two of them was just as funny as the rest of us even tho my auntie sulked about it but got over it pretty quickly.

Four kids and breast fed all for two years. Ate spicy food all the way through my pregnancy and breastfeeding. I was veggie then so ate dairy and eggs. Too much chilli did come through into my milk but a reasonable amount didn’t seem to affect them. The only time I stopped eating so much spice is when I had bad acid reflux. To then eat foods she can’t have is horrible. This poor woman needs to stand up for herself and read the scientific facts and show them to her hubby! He sounds very controlling as does mil!

Sitting on your high horse has clearly caused you to miss the part where OP *DID* shut down his brother's behaviour every time, but his mom made excuses for him and tried to gaslight OP into thinking it was okay. Before you go declaring how people should grow backbones, learn to read between the lines. If his Mom was excusing behaviour like that, then she's probably been doing it for their whole lives and treating the brother more favourably over OP. Considering how that kind of upbringing can skew one's perceptions of their place in their family, its amazing that OP turned out with such clear vision at all. It doesn't make up for the fact that this has been allowed to go on for so long, and indeed, it should have taken far less time for OP to put his foot down, but you have to keep these factors in mind and, more importantly, not take these stories as opportunities to boast about how flawlessly you would handle this situation.

Story 2, and to some extent also 1 - I was unfortunate to have a pregnancy where I couldn't eat anything without throwing up most of the time. I'm talking all nine months. I just had to suck it up and eat again because I didn't want my baby to suffer. I didn't stuff my face with junk. But if anyone told me I couldn't have anything with flavor, I'd be walking out the door. Women have different cravings during pregnancy and it usually has to do with the vitamins the baby needs. I craved pickles when I was dehydrated and steak when I needed iron. A pregnant woman should avoid too much of certain things like caffeine and certain fish but it's very important that they eat what they feel like eating, and the baby benefits from the mom having a diverse diet both before and after birth (due to breastfeeding). If someone is claiming to be pregnant but refuses to cut back on caffeine that is a huge red flag. At that point you are risking miscarriage big time. I gave up monsters or only drank half of one in a day if I had it at all, and eventually substituted with a brand of canned iced coffee with a lot less caffeine for those times when I was dragging without the extra help (plus it's also helpful to have something sweet on hand to get that nasty taste out of your mouth). Some women aren't even aware they are pregnant, or don't show signs, or don't have any nausea at all. But it's rare. If you have to pretend to be pregnant in order to have a place to stay, that's a seriously bad situation that you should get out of immediately. But if you absolutely have to, just do like a ten minute Google search to figure out how a pregnant woman should be acting, and eating. That OP was doing a good thing by being concerned about their since proven non-existent baby.

Story 2:. YTA, that woman is _not_ getting the nutrients she needs to support that baby. Likely most of her difficulties are _coming_ from that wonky diet and would probably lessen if given a better diet. I dunno if this is a cultural thing going on or what but their lines about 'acidity' and 'that spice and non-vegetarian foods hurt lactation' have me side eying HARD. If she's acidic, she needs to be in a damn hospital cause she's _dying._ (Unless they mean she's having GERDs??). Further studies show there is no difference in quality or production output of breastmilk between non-vegetarian, vegetarian, and vegan diets so long as the mother is receiving adequate nutrients herself. I'm more worried this woman isn't getting the nutrients she needs (some of the things OP listed do have them but it's still worrisome with how restrictive the diet is). Pregnant women need calcium, vitamin B12, iron, DHA, iodine, and zinc in upped quantity along with micronutrients. She REALLY needs to see a PROFESSIONAL RD, not her hubby who is a fit-bro thinking he's a nutritionist cause he can help ppl lose weight. Many of her symptoms feel like they may be intensified by this diet alone!!

Story 2: This might differ by country and what is considered the standard medical practice, but I'm actually recovering from a C-section right now and the medical advise I received for POST-SURGERY is to have an easily digestable diet. Chili, pepper are indeed out, but (as the pdf I received states) the gentler spices are ok. Nothing I've eaten been bland. Lean meat is in fact on the allowed list. Which makes me think the hubby or MIL are way too controlling...

Story 2 - OP, YTA for not getting your wife the she medical care she desparately needs, and instead allowing her MIL to contol her diet according to baseless folklore. Where is the professional prenatal care and education? Prolonged or excessive vomiting may cause dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, nutrition deficiencies, and permanent damage to teeth, the esophagus, etc. It's dangerous for anyone, let alone a pregnant woman and fetus in early development. How does a restrictive, repetitive diet address these issues, bland or not?

For another, my mom has to eat a non-acidic diet eating only lean meats, non-acidic vegetables, the rare carb, no real seasoning, and it's making her miserable. She has a rare form of acid reflux and her doctor put her on this diet. But at least she's not having awful flare-ups as often. As a mom of two, you don't use pregnancy as an excuse to nonstop eat and do nothing. Understandably the first trimester sucks and both pregnancies the first two weeks were a nightmare, but that doesn't give you an excuse to be a shit person. Eating everyone else's food and seemingly going out of your way to not consume anything healthy and only junk is horrible, I'll admit my diet wasn't the best when pregnant, but I still made sure to eat real meals and have some better control than normally. I feel for her child (if she's pregnant), not only because she lacks self control, but because mommy and daddy are a shit show together it seems Edit: NO doctor (that I've ever met and I've seen a few OBGYN's) will tell you it's okay to consume two cups of coffee a day, most recommend you stay away from it for the entire pregnancy or majority of it, same for caffeine. They found out I was still drinking a can of caffeinated pop a day and got mad at me (Mt. Dew), they didn't want me drinking it at all, never personally been big on coffee so I didn't get into any trouble there luckily
