It sucks for the person whose sister received a new car that they think the outcome is the best possible when their parents gave them 10k for a used car while their sister still has a new 25k car. Shows how much their parents suck at treating them that a "make up" present worth less than half of the original screw up is the best possible outcome.

As a woman who has lived in the south for over 50 years, I can honestly say I have NEVER seen that type of behavior except in small patches. I have lived in Texas most of that time, but I have also lived in Louisana, Florida and Georgia. I actually saw more of this type of behavior when I was growing up in Maryland. But even then if a woman needed help, she would ask her husband and he would usually do it.

After quarantine I am now hovering around 121 lbs and am now a healthy BMI for my height and gender. My BF’s mother keeps trying to force him to feed me because I am still skinny in appearance. In most situations I would agree about the "medical reasons", but since the father raising him is actually his full-blood brother, the family's medical history doesn't have any differences except the lack of his wife's family. While I agree that allowing inheritance Mom to win this game is setting you up for her to pull that card whenever she wants you to do something, I don't have a single friend that would make me choose their party (which is really what a wedding is) over $5M. This, those "would you slap your best friend for" etc. posts, they all fall into the same category. Everyone in my life would absolutely rather me have that money and never have to worry about anything but paying taxes (if and when they're finally the way they should be) than have that singular moment. Firstly, I may need you to narrate my life. Secondly, the second story about step parents.. I get it. My dad passed almost 15 years ago and my mom has since remarried about 10 years ago. I’m over 40 and I’ve met her adult step kids like 2 times. She constantly refers to them as my brothers and sisters and gets mad when I don’t participate in their kids birthdays or their family gatherings, a 12 hour drive away for people who I barely know.

@@wplains really that would depend on the situation. One that started like this commenter life okay, I agree. But the one’s where the new spouse comes into that child’s life at a young age and sticks around and treats them well I’d have to disagree. My nephew never got raised by his “dad” who left his mother when she just had his son, he has been raised by her long time boyfriend since he was 3 he’s almost 11 that man is definitely his family now and more of a father figure than his “dad” who left and barely sees him.

1:54:03 - NO NO NO. If this story is true, I ABSOLUTELY side with OP. In a proffesional environment, a boss has to be called formally or informally by EVERYONE in the same way. This informal way of adressing OP would give the stepfather a foot in the door for even more exceptions. And neither of them would need to be malicious for that to happen! I STRONGLY agree with the all or no one rule. EDIT: What the heck? Well, then the country plays a BIG role, because if you call your boss or even co-workers by their first name without them allowing you to in my country, you did a "boo boo". It is often no big deal, but it is NOT okay to regularly do so. It often is only okay in smaller firms. So from my point of view this father is HIGHLY disrespectful to his superior and son and is trying to undermine his authority.

That was the day him and probably my whole neighborhood found out real quick like that I would not allow our children to be raised with that mindset. That cooking and cleaning was not strictly just work for the females. I wanted our daughter and son to be raised capable of taking care of themselves and not dependent or expectant of the opposite sex to do certain things for them. So I told my daughter right then n there to not worry about helping me out that day because her father n brother were getting up n doin the cooking and cleaning that day or we could leave

That whole gay wedding vs. inheritance really pisses me off. First, because we’re not talking about a few thousand dollars, we’re talking about financial security for him, his kids, possibly even his grandchildren, if it’s well invested. Second, because if the money came from his father initially, it may already be allocated in trusts, etc…to his children. And finally because I think anybody you could call your “best friend”, would totally be on board with either conspiring, with a cast of actors even, to manufacture a huge distraction for Evil Mom on wedding day so she’s too busy to spy on you, or change the date or location to foil her. Or just be understanding of an impossible situation, and extract a promise of a lavish trip together after you inherited!

I was adopted as a six week old infant and my parents were always honest with me from the start that they adopted me because they desperately wanted a child of their own. They bought a book called "Why Was I Adopted?" to explain to me what adoption was and some of the situations as to why a child would be put up for adoption. I grew up knowing that I was very, very loved and wanted by my parents, also, my family accepted me into the "flock" as one of them. My Grandma(Mom's mother) would always introduce me to her friends as, "This is our granddaughter Kristi. She's our special little adopted one!" I loved that because it made me feel even more loved and wanted.

Sibling gave support directly to sister before buying her half of property until sibling could not afford it any more. OP with the wife's autistic friend is not the a-hole. People are allowed to be comfortable in their own home. The wife is refusing to compromise with the husband. Yeah, the friend is also allowed to be comfortable with their friend the wife, but people have different comfort levels and this is intruding on the husband's comfort in his own home. Is it also the wife's home? Yes, but again, she is refusing to compromise and is sacrificing the husband's comfort in favor of her friend. Not only that, but she is inviting the friend to stay the night regularly without any input or agreement of the husband. The wife is perfectly within her right to have friends over, but would she feel fine with it if her husband was behaving the same? Inviting friends that she doesn't approve of to come over and messing with her relaxing time? Inviting an unwelcome guest to stay the night without any input from her? The wife is definitely the a-hole there.

Gotta love how mark and commenters basically said "oh, she has anxiety? she should grow up" because that's what it is, anxiety. Should she see a therapist? Yes. Is she treating the staff like they are lesser? No. Should any random internet strangers be telling her how to deal with her anxiety, much less a 12 year old? Hell no. The daughter did cause a scene when she could have listened to an explanation and just discussed it, her age is irrelevant, and being grounded isn't a severe punishment and teaches to handle the situation better if he discusses it with her after.

Thinking about the apartment split story "I couldn't just keep giving her money" meaning that she had given her money for free before she couldn't do it financially anymore and the solution they came up with was to compensate her with the apartment. Meaning she probably paid much more than market value with the help she gave until she couldn't anymore

OP with the overweight boyfriend is ABSOLUTELY the AH - but not for the reasons most people think. If they are no longer intimate and he has gained a large amount of weight, as his partner, OP has an obligation to get him to a doctor. Anybody else thinking Type 2 diabetes here? I lost my husband because his ex-wife could have been OP (relax, I know it isn't - she would not care what anyone else thinks of her). She started a relationship with the next door neighbour after she stopped being attracted to his body - because of weight gain. By not insisting that he see a doctor she may as well have shot him in the heart. Please, people, if your spouse or partner has begun to gain a significant amount of weight and your love life has disappeared, chances are much greater that they have diabetes than that they are lazy. The damage to body systems caused by this awful disease can become fatal before a diagnosis can be made. The damage is catastrophic and will continue unchecked for as long as the condition goers untreated! OP is more toxic than even they realize. The BF's feelings are not all that could be at stake here.

My son's on the more severe end of the scale, and I didn't know anything when we started this journey either. 10 years in, and I still feel like I'm on a learning curve sometimes. I've fallen down the information rabbit hole so many times over the years. Combing the internet for ideas, different therapies, assistance programs so we could access those ideas and therapies, etc... It can be overwhelming with so many suggestions and emerging medical data out there. Children on the spectrum are so unique, too. Something that has been life changing for one family, might have no impact, or even be negative for another. I know I've wished many times for an "ASD: a parents guide for dummies" book, just to point me in the right direction. Lol. I'm glad you've found what works well for your children, and I empathize on the length of the road you're family has traveled to get there. God bless.

With the Christmas car one I still don’t think this is a great update, OP’s sister still got a new and expensive car and OP only got $10K and a shit phone case, I probably sound entitled but I just don’t think the price matches up cause OP still probably needs to use some of their money so they don’t get a shit car. Everyone forgets that teens can be harsh. Doesn't matter the age they find out. The "Your not my real mom/dad" hurts like hell, especially when they raised you. That's partly why a lot of people want to wait.

And that argument shows only care for your best interests, not the child's. No expert in the field will recommended waiting to tell the child that information since it only serves to make the adults feel better in exchange for doing very real psychological harm to the child . It is best for the child to grow up knowing it as early as possible. My nephew tried pulling that stunt at 5 and never tried it again since my SIL had an answer ready that the child's therapist and she had decided on. "I have a very large box of paperwork that would indicate otherwise".

@@alsinakiria I WAS the child. Idc. I've been there. Done that. Have the t-shirt. Guess what? It would have done MORE damage if I HAD known. My niece was 18 months younger than me. How would you have liked that your egg donor had given you up, then gotten knocked up 9 months later with a child she chose to have and decided to keep? Hmmm????? Do you still think this is a good idea to tell your child??? My niece and I were close for many years. More so because we didn't know. What separated us was a personal issue unrelated to the adoption; although to think of it now, I'm glad I was. I love my mom and dad. My mom and I used to fight, we were like oil and water. Just didn't mix. Age differences. But I loved her still, and I still love my dad. So don't tell me it will mess a child up. YOU don't know every situation.

@@AshendaFiremyst you should have gotten therapy so in the end your lying parents still failed you and, honestly, people shouldn't be allowed to keep kids if they've abandoned one since it proves they're unfit. And you can't possibly know what your emotional state would have been in a completely different scenario. You don't know what you would have thought if you were told the truth. Sure, you might have been better served by not knowing but in the end you don't know that. You don't know anything about a life you didn't live. I trust the opinions of experts over some internet stranger who could be lying out of their ass any day. Experts have seen dozens of these scenarios play out and you've seen one. Statistically insignificant. One anecdote does not change the opinions of experts. Your experience is a statistical outlier at best since most kids resent or sometimes even abandon their lying parents as soon as they're old enough since they feel they can't trust them to tell the truth.

@@alsinakiria Yes, actually, I do. When we did find out, the jealousy was extreme. I have been in therapy. For years, actually. I wasn't abandoned. I was given up. My parents were amazing. They never failed me in any way. It seems though, we will never see eye to eye, so, I will hush on this topic. I know you will argue until you are blue in the face, but you haven't seen this side of the fence. So, I am done.

A 25K- or 35K or 45K car is a reasonable investment into a car that you never intend to replace. But 25 K into an initial car is insane. I'll keep my efficient 22k 13 year old Honda car as long as I can. Toyota is presently producing the world's most reliable cars, but KIA is a strong competitor, especially in EVs. German manufacturers are just beginning to understand this. Give them 5 years. Most US manufrcturers are pertanently indifferent to people who want their cars to last more than 7 years. China seems indifferent to the survival of its customers.
