Damn, this woman should never be allowed to hold a gun ever again. She'd shoot a kid thinking it's a bear pup standing on its hind legs.

That goes back to when having a autistic child was considered to be a stain on the family's reputation. And the doctors would suggest to the parents of an autistic child. To throw them into state hospitals and forget about them. Just like Raun Kaufman's mom was advised to do. My mom did what her mom did when it came to medical things. She tended to figuratively stuck her head into the sand when she found out I have autism. She would continue to do it later when I started to need to wear glasses. As well as other things. The irony of the situation was before I was diagnosed. My mom was posthumously diagnosed with Aspergers. I was diagnosed with Aspergers just before the DSM V came out. Where it was placed in to the spectrum not long afterwards. I also have a daughter on the spectrum as well.

The husky story was so sad. Reading through the comments here.... what a disgusting human being that woman is. It reminds me of a conversation I had with a hunter. (Btw, I live in Germany where hunting is very striktly controlled). Anyway, he told me that the hunters had come together to go fox hunting during season. And by the end of it, they all laid their game out next to each other on the grass. One hunter guy comes up and friggin tosses a domestic cat down and acts fucking proud. We do not have that many stray cats around here usually (at least were I live). It's highly likely it was just a housecat that had wandered a bit too far into the meadow. Nobody said anything, but nobody congratulated him either. He was then shunned and excluded from every future meeting, trip or other social gathering and everybody got the word around what he'd done. everybody broke contact with him. They were all disgusted. It is one thing to control wildlife population like foxes and deer, which has become unfortunately neccessary. but killing JUST for the pure sport and the joy he showed for killing a pet, was what disgusted everyone. if cats are stray, usually there is a nearby shelter that can be alerted and they will find it a home. other than that: cats rome. like most people in germany have outdoor cats. (it's changing a bit now, but still you see cats everywhere in towns, but they do have homes. sometimes several, LOL. we too have a cat coming by that lives a block over, lol. we call him Sunny. no idea what the actual name is.)

OK, so depending on the pickle it can actually be perfectly safe for you to eat them A) pretty much only in the Americas and maybe the uk does a pickle refer exclusively to pickled cucumber and B) depending on the allergy in question a hot pickled cucumber might be safe for you, I am allergic to cucumbers and its enough for me but then again my allergy is pretty mild Obviously I am not your allergist and immunologist and you are mych more familiar with your body than I am, but hopefully you can get some that work for you (or find a new kind of pickle that you like)

Some of it far more egregious than being black. Like, if you don't want the 'the little mermaid' character to be remade with a different skin colour just for the sake of diversity or because it's not true to the identity of the original character, I can completely understand that, but do we really want to bring science into the series about mermaids, magic, gods, and curses?

The misogyny and astrology argument is actually pretty interesting. I think the argument comes in because astrology is something a lot of younger girls like, not as something to seriously believe in but just a fun thing to look at. And a lot young girls face ridicule for any hobby they have - reading YA, horse riding etc (or at least where I grew up) and making fun of any hobbies young girls may have is routed in misogyny. However, as adults, I don’t think there’s that much misogyny to it, just people taking each other too seriously :) (Edit: I feel like I have to clarify that this is speaking from the personal experience of where I grew up. Anyone can like astrology regardless of gender identity, but where I grew up girls were made fun of for taking an interest in ANYTHING that wasn't like sewing and baking)
@EminayDrackoness2 жыл бұрын
riiiiiiiiiiiiight cause gender roles say that young boys cant like astrology. What exactly makes astrology "Girly" pray tell...? your logic seems pretty pointlessly gendered there. Misogyny is enforcing gender roles onto women like saying astrology is for young girls, or that women should be barefoot prego and in the kitchen. Misogyny is claiming that women are different than men and there for cannot do certain things or that only women can do certain things.... do you really not see the fly in you ointment there? You honestly think that young boys dont read YA or ride horses? Try being a young boy who wants to do ballet....

Especially as the UK news - which we also received in NZ - was very vocal in the subject of Lech Walesa (sorry my keyboard doesn't do accents) in fighting against communism and the USSR based government in Poland. I think EVERYONE in Europe knew basically where Poland was at that time. And since because BOTH countries are/were in the EU. An acquaintance of mine who's totally into astrology tried convincing me with having me read a book about it... And it really explained extremely good how and why astrology works, just not the way she thought: It had, of course, a list of all the star signs and what the people who are born under them are supposed to be like. And there a very obvious pattern became apparent... Pretty much every starsign was something like: - Aquariusssess are very calm and introverted, except for some cases, where they are extroverted and like the company of others. - Capricorns like sports and manual labour, but sometimes also can be more into arts. - Cancers all like rock music, except for those who don't... Granted, it was hidden a little better in the text, but basically every property the members of a star sign are supposed to have a sentence or two later would have it's opposite "exceptions". Horoscopes often use similar methods with their predictions. It's just some cheap trick.

The best part about the "Vaccines cause Autism" argument to me is, that I was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 10. My mother is anti-vax so I got my first shots when i moved out. So as long as vaccines can´t travel in time, there is no way that autism is only caused by them.

I'm sorry but I'd like to politely disagree, in my opinion the best part is that the entire idea that Vaccines cause Autism was caused by a charlatan who knowingly spread bullshit in an attempt to get people to BUY HIS OWN VACCINE, also the fact that the coinventor of said Vaccine was a person who thought he could cure Autism with his bone marrow. Also the "study" was funded by a lawyer trying to get proof that Vaccines cause Autism so he could use it in a case from a bunch of Parents who already reached that conclusion with no evidence who decided to sue the vaccine companies, and that a significant number of the children in the study were the kids of said parents, also that some of the kids who were listed as "Autistic" weren't actually Autistic. In conclusion Wakefield and his "study" were a bunch of lies written to help a bullshit lawsuit and to help him convince people to buy his vaccine, and as a result the Anti-vax movement was founded.

The accent part: totally right! No, I just learned the dialects while I learned how to speak xD And another funny thing: when you speak multiple languages well, it can happen that the accent you have when learning a new one is not your native language. On the topic of accents. I had to record an audio bit for my older brother yesterday, and he asked me to do a "neutral accent". I asked what that meant, and he said he wanted to go lean slightly South English, or slightly American. So I just asked "do you want an American accent or an English accent? Make up your mind." He repeated that he wanted a neutral one, I got really confused, recorded with my normal hybrid accent, and he didn't correct it. For context, we are Australian, with a mildly South English accent from being first gen. He at least had the self awareness to know our accent isn't neutral, and that we do have an Australian accent, but he didn't notice that in the recording I was still very clearly Australian! With regards to "no accent", mid West American English was chosen as the dialect for national news broadcasts in the 1950s because it sounded generally neutral to most of the country. Hence, some people incorrectly said they had no accent. They do, of course, even when just limited to the USA.
@KiwiCalamity2 жыл бұрын
Weirdly, I think I can see where the "Midwest doesn't have an accent" idea comes from--in America, there are a lot of really distinct accents. For example, Southern, New York, Boston. But the Midwest is considered a very neutral accent since it's actually pretty hard for you to pinpoint exactly where they're from in the US. So, people with Midwest accents are used a lot for reporters, because then they're just the 'relatable' newscaster and not someone that's from an area far from you. They're just generically American. I mean it's still wrong but there is a LITTLE truth to it.

To be completely fair to the "worldwide flood" people, there _is_ enough water on Earth to cover all landmasses if you somehow managed to squeeze it out of the ground and then put it back in afterwards. I personally think the Flood stories that exist in most cultures (including the one in the Bible) probably refer to a series of more localized megafloods at the end of the last Ice Age rather than to a single, global event, but the amount of water isn't actually the issue it's commonly made out to be if we're already assuming miraculous intervention.

@@Kira_Nakasashi The frozen water at Earth's poles is only enough to raise sea levels by about 70 meters (230 feet) - enough to be devastating if it happened quickly, but not enough to literally cover all landmasses.

@@LincolnDWard Understood, but that still could be where some of it went, and perhaps there are multiple explinations. Ignoring the religious connotation which is always associated with this, there is a lot of geological evidence that there were large amounts of flooding at some point in the world's history, possibly when the ice age ended or perhaps at another time. Edit to add: Preemptively, clarifying my point on Geological evidences, it doesn't currently support a worldwide flood, so I'm not trying to argue that point.

@@Kira_Nakasashi Evidence for very large local megafloods, but not really for a flood that covered literally the entire planet at once.

My God, how ever did you manage to pull this off with such a decrepit uterus?? Amazing. Me, I was just about to get my 12 years old daughter married in order to ensure humanity's survival, 'cause you know, we're so "close" to extinction... PS: I'm kdding, I don't even have children.
