I stayed in a transitional care home for 3 weeks (I am 39) after a bad bout of cellulitis and, being one of the youngest ones there kind of got adopted as one of the grandbabies of all the old people there. Who they REALLY adopted tho was my husband. He was there to visit me 3-4 times a week (sadly it was a bit of a drive and he still had to go to work or he would have been there more) and damn, those older ladies LOVED him. No matter where I was when he arrived I knew instantly cause word would spread and someone would tell me he had come. It was great. If I was in therapy he'd chill with any of the old ladies there and chat with them and it made their day. So many of them never got visitors so him chatting with them was everything to them. It was precious beyond words.

Sadly when you have been indoctrinated your whole life to capitulate to narcissistic, manipulative people then it’s really really really hard to break out of that pattern of behaviour. Standing up to a narcissist is extremely exhausting which is why most people find going low or no contact is the only solution. Narcissists are also very adept at targeting people who are vulnerable to their manipulation tactics - empathetic/naive/non confrontational. These are power dynamics that are firmly entrenched so while it seems like an obvious and easy thing to just say NO it practice it can be a lot more challenging. Bear in mind that they will often use other family members/vulnerable people as well. The classic is “…I need ___ for my children. Do you want them to suffer/go hungry/be homeless?” The dynamics of abusive relationships are very complex and are based on unhealthy behaviour and bonds.

When I use the phrase "Can I speak to your manager" it's usually to tell the manager directly that the staff member that was helping me was doing an exemplary job and they were really helpful over and above the call of duty. Usually I don't say this to the staff member beforehand and the look on their face is generally well worth it.

They have to endure so much negativity and verbal abuse on the job, so I hope my calls make their day suck just a little less. Plus, commercial truck drivers don't get NEARLY enough credit for what they do, and they deserve the recognition of a job well done. I have no idea if the positive feedback I give gets back to the driver or their bosses, but I like to think it does.

I was a photographer for awhile at a chain that was known for family photos and specialty photo frames for kids yearly photos. The Russian parents were awful to their little ones. I almost wanted to cry for this one little guy, he was 4 or 5 and I took what was pretty much the most amazing photos I had taken in the, at that point, 6 months I had worked there so far and he was freaking adorbs. I put together one of the frames that had a spot for 3 different photos and was very popular to put on the wall by the little bed or somewhere in their bedroom at that point in time early 2000s. She literally hated the photos! Was it because she didn't like the poses? No. Because she hated the way I took the photos or how they served up after they were developed (film so during development at times things could go wrong) ..? Nope this woman YELLED at the child, making him cry mind you, because he smiled too much. I seriously wanted to hit this woman. She would look at each photo saying "this would be perfect if you had not ruined it by smiling"! She also told him how ugly his smile was, she did finally spend quite a bit and I actually won a contest at work for the trio frame I had put together but I just couldn't be as happy about it all knowing that the poor little guy was made to feel so badly. IDK if it was a culture thing but literally every Russian mom was the same, so often so that I would make sure not to tell the Russian kids to smile and in fact took only serious shots.

Borrowing money: Do not let people borrow any more than $300 per family. If they do not pay it back in full, they don't get anymore. Lessons learned. If you don't stand up for yourself and get the first loan back, people see you as an ATM and will abuse your kindness. Never gift money (max $50) for anything other than a Birthday or Christmas, that also turns you into an ATM.

I don't agree that those who are stocking shelves should not be expected to answer questions about locations of various items in the store or to reach for something that is shelved too high. The customer service person is there for returns, problems, etc and doesn't have time to deal with everyone who cannot locate items. I had a knee replacement last year and have the other one scheduled next week. The extra walking involved in going to the service desk every time can't locate something is prohibitive. I don't want to use the motorized carts either as there are those who need them more than I do. The person stocking shelves is also more likely to know where an item is as well. I do agree that you should not touch the person to get their attention. That is just rude as well as inappropriate during a pandemic. The fact that the person in this post was deaf is another issue. I suppose if she didn't respond to verbal cues, I would look for someone else for help. I certainly would not poke her or shake her. That is beyond rude, it is assault.

Actually, the "native bloodline law" is actually a thing, not within families though. They don't actually have to marry either, they are picked up and forced to breed, mostly pures with pures. They don't have to stick around and care for the children or anything, it is just a transaction. Any time the elders want another generation, the tribal members are required to abide, it is their tribes law. I had a discussion about this recently with a few natives. Apparently the larger tribes are very into arranged blood lines. They will call on any person to breed, when the leaders want it to happen. LoL it is crazy.

My parents had 20 acres in the woods-They built a log house in the very center -surrounded by large trees. Behind them was Farmer Johnson and his wife (real names lol!) They were great neighbors and had an L shaped property with their house behind us down a gravel road and a field with cows next to us. Well Old Johnson’s son wanted to move back home (sort of reluctantly) and convinced his Dad he would help with the farm after years of not being interested if He could build his own small house on the Johnson’s property. So he starts building and Dad keeps hearing saws and hammering and thinks they sound too close but doesn’t wanna doubt mr Johnson an honorable man- but eventually it bugs him enough so he has himself a walk thru his woods and sees Jr. Johnson has a house already half built...right on the property line Dad thinks. So Dad gets a bit miffed as his markers are clear- but anyway he asks Jr. to please get it resurveyed because he is sure the house is right on top the line. Jr gets huffy and rude but Elder Johnson says “no-that’s fair-I told him that was maybe too close” and makes jr pay for the surveyors who tell jr the bad news...So now Jr will either have to somehow move the house back about 7 feet or tear it down and start over . Jr’s steps and porch were already over onto our property. His front drive he planned would be fully on our property...Or he could stop being huffy and beg my parents for an easement...He lost his huffiness alright and begged. He told Them he would rearrange his house -front door to face his parents property instead of theirs, cut the driveway on the other side but could he pay for a yearlhy easement so he didn’t have to wreck what he built already? My mom convinced my reluctant dad to just sell him a small strip so that the house could stay as a favor to the elder Johnson’s. So that’s what they did. Jr lost his attitude, admitted his errors and all was settled with Jr paying a minimal amount for a strip off the back 20 acres. He was grateful for the grace rather than getting what he deserved. He was lucky my mom was more rational than my Dad who valued the privacy of his woods and still felt jr,s house was too damn close. Jr turned his house plans the other direction. They all continued to get along. Elder Johnson’s blind beagle named “Ugly” continued to hunt rabbits on our property. Because he was blind if they sat still he couldn’t chase them-only if they moved and also he could catch their scent. He was so funny. The bunnies would freeze and he would snurf around and around real closely sometimes but he had no clue they were right there. I guess he had just enough visual acuity to generally avoid the large trees but he did tear himself up a bit on the gooseberry bushes. At his age he rarely caught one now but still liked to relive his glory days...

My daughter has an insulin pump, there is no needle attached to the tubing. The tubing is attached to a port which has a plastic tube in the subdermal layer of skin to administer insulin. Pulling off the port, which has to be changed weekly at most has a drop or two of blood like a pin prick. The story was exaggerated if it transpired at all. Also the pump doesn't look like a game, it kind of resembles a pager. It costs around 5k after insurance, so if she damaged it it would be very costly.

Your Dominican mom, aunt, and cousin and you , too haven’t looked into legalities! Marriage to an American does NOT give you citizenship or a legal green card! She can apply for a student visa and go to nursing school if she has the funding, but they changed the ‘marriage to an American to get citizenship’ years ago! All you get for marrying your first cousin here is arrested because it is illegal, just like marrying your sister! So, rethink your plans, you don’t want to ruin your life and her chances of ever getting here. I know these things because my daughter was married to a non citizen and it cost thousands and thousands of $, and took 3 years, to get him to ‘legal to live here permanently status’, and he is not a citizen, just a legal permanent resident. Edited for spellcheck.

The insulin pump story seems dubious. You don’t leave the needle in when inserting the part that goes into your body, you pull the needle out once it’s pierced the skin leaving only a plastic tube to deliver the insulin. Also how long was this lady at the store? Even with the most fast working insulin the blood sugar wouldn’t stat to immediately go up the second the insulin is cut off. It is also fairly rare to start bleeding if the tube is pulled out since it’s inserted into fatty tissue, though it can happen.

People still use those? Anyway even with the fastest acting insulin, it still takes some time before you start feeling your blood-sugar rise, like 20 minutes on the fast working ones, and even longer for it to get critically high. Story just seems off to me.

The cousin marriage one is wrong by legal standards. You cannot marry anyone and them become a citizen in a year. You also cannot marry someone and bring them on the next flight. They still need to recieve permission to go to the states and the married couple could be in separate countries during that time. The waiting period alone is a few years of marriage. You also must convince someone during an interview that its not for the reason of gaining citizenship and instead out of love. Depending on how close of a cousin and the place you live the marriage may not count in the eyes of the state anyway. If she wants to go to school there she can get a school Visa.

59:20 Uh, yes, he did. He totally knew. If he's smart and capable enough to navigate his way home all by himself like that, then he's smart enough to understand that he isn't entitled to other people's personal property. If I were the other mom and I saw OP's brother attack my child and wrestle their toy away from them, I'd probably get physical with him, too. Isn't it funny how families of autistic children love to white knight for them like OP is doing, yet they're the first ones to throw them under the bus in order to avoid taking any responsibility for their actions? You can't have it both ways; either he's a helpless, instinct-driven, animalistic simpleton incapable of comprehending foundational human concepts like consent, or he's an actual human being who should be treated with respect and held to the same basic standards of decency as everyone else. Having autism may be an explanation for that kind of entitled behavior, but it is NOT an excuse. Yes, I am aware that it requires a great deal more patience, time, and energy to raise a well-adjusted autistic child than a neurotypical one, but it is _literally your job as a parent to do that._

sorry, I live in the US and store employees are available to help customers. Stockers do have the responsibility to help customers and if they can't they need to find someone who can. I can understand OP's concern about someone touching his deaf sister but get real, she works in a public facing job and is going to come in contact with people.

The story that plays around 15 monutes doesnt seem true to me, i wear an insulin pump and a sensor. The part that attaches to you via the pump has no needle after you put it in cause it leaves a small tube inside. Its very tiny and off my memory its called a cannula. Basically a portable iv setup is the best way to imagine it. The needle is only the thing that gets the tubing in your body. So no needle to "stab someone with" or get hurt with.

@@ambersimms6246 That's a beneficial outcome, though most food now labeled "gluten free" is stuff that NEVER had gluten in it, like fat-free candy, it's a total con job. And people who have no need to go gluten free making a fad or food fetish out of removing it from their diets are why people think these folks with very valid reasons for avoiding gluten are just being "difficult"

About the waiter story of the couple on nye and just 20 min waiting: If I understood correctly the couple touched OPs face. If someone would do that with me i probably would slap there hands away. Even so I am quit introverted I really don´t like people touching me. It took me years to become more comfortible with people outside my family exchanging more than handshakes even close family-friends so I wouldn´t be surprised if I would do more than even the slapping away of the hands. I mean who do they think they are to be allowed to touch my face?

I went into the local grocery store just in time to miss a similar situation that happened to a friend of mine. She was getting groceries and being newly single, her ex decided to be an ass but that's another story altogether, anyways she has her 6 month old and toddler with her and only had them in the store because again it was just her at this point. She was getting some apple sauce from the very end of an isle and did not need to actually go up the isle to grab it and was not going to walk up the rest of the isle for anything else. She was wearing her mask ect. A large elderly, young enough he could have caused harm and had a booming voice to the point a worker next isle over heard him, he yelled at her about going against the arrow but he was not even there until she was already standing there picking out the apple sauce so he could not have known if she walked through the isle the correct direction or not or at all. It was awful, both the kids were scared and crying and she was shaking. Ppl need to calm tf down over the arrow thing sheesh

The mum who wants her son to marry a 3rd cousin just for a "green card" is just INSANE. Bread has come back in droves (as have toilet paper), but I was just amazed at how the bread aisle was completely trashed... (Really, if people REALLY wanted to eat bread, it is QUITE simple to make it... and it tastes better than "store-bought" bread.

It baffles me how many people perpetuate the incorrect and offensive stereotype of 'Alabama and incest'. No, I'm not from Alabama nor have I ever lived there. If you insist on continuing such stereotypes simply for a good laugh, West Virginia has an astronomically higher rate of incest.
