It's easy to be mistaken for working at Walmart. Just stand in the electronics area for a bit and others will start asking you to help them. Weird thing is I did help them, and when one person needed a cable that was behind a glass door she started wondering why I wasn't opening it for them before realizing I had no Walmart logo on my shirt and asking the obvious question "You don't work here?". "No Ma'am I was just waiting in line for the Electronics lady when people started asking me to do stuff."

Oh my god. Its the " You're a waitress so that means you work at EVERY restaurant." Karen! Those are the saddest ones I've seen. I've seen workers take lunch breaks and get berated for not serving an impatient customer even though they're CLEARLY not on the job at that moment! And these are people that don't look like they're going to starve any time soon, nor have anything else important to do except sit around waiting. God that's so dumb. One of my friends used to work at Mexican restaurant and one day after her shift I went to go meet her at McDonald's. Now she was wearing her work uniform which was just a t shirt with the restaurant name on it, and well the Mickey's D employees where the uniform. As we get up to the counter the manager told my friend. "You! Get behind the counter! We are short staffed!" My friend was just so confused. I told the manager, that we are customers, and she works at a local restaurant. Manager, "I don't care. You work here now." Now fun fact, my dad works for McDonald's and knows a lot of the Managers. I didn't know who this manager was, so I just said to my friend we're just gonna go. I called my dad and said that a manager was harassing my friend. I told him that manager was trying to get customers to work. My dad wasn't happy, and that manager was promptly fired.

@@katefresina832 I think in general, even if your dad didn't work for McDonald's, either the corporate side or the "frontline" side, corporate HQ probably would've gotten rid of that manager the moment they heard about this stupidity due to the potential PR nightmare on their hands. Imagine the fallout they will face if word of that spreading, and mainstream news catching on. The PR circus is going to have a field day, as instead of thinking that maybe that it was due to an idiot manager who is too smart for his own good, the public will just see it as "McDonald's secret company policy", forcing some poor customer to work for them with no formal in-house training. If there's one thing I learned about corporate America(I'm a foreigner), it's that, more often than not, they will put more effort into protecting the company's image, and salvaging their reputation, than stick their necks out for one bad egg that was called out publicly.

I really believe there is a form of autism that causes people to identify others as "servers" or employees based on their past experience and an inability to "filter" that experience. No matter the color of a shirt and pants, or the restaurant a recognized server from elsewhere happens to be in. If they have with their limited information "processed" you as someone to help them simply because they NEED help, and you happen to be handy, then their faulty cognition will make you into the person they need in order to get what they want. This is a scenario I am hearing over and over, so I don't think these incidents are unique. They show us that there is a syndrome here, not so much a willful "Karen" behavior, but a true lack of discernment, perhaps based on a faulty functioning that doctors and social scientists have not yet recognized and which we have come to identify as "Karenism". I myself encountered this one afternoon when I'd gone to a local cafe and ordered my meal, quickly delivered to my table. As it was noisy and I wanted to read my book, I took my meal to a distant table in a part of the cafe that clearly was not being used. Before long, a well dressed, middle aged woman sat down at a table near me. After awhile, she called over to me - "Excuse, me. Could I trouble you to clear this tray from my table?" She was very polite. It seemed this section was being used as a sort of service area. I hadn't seen the woman actually enter and sit down, but I wondered if she had some disability. So, I go up and moved the tray of dirty dishes to another table and returned to my seat and my book. Shortly after, the woman (again, very politely) asked if I could take her order (!?) I then realized that she thought I worked there, was a server, despite my lack of uniform, my meal in front of me and my book. Annoyed, I said - "No, I don't think so!" She waited a short time, then quietly got up and left. This incident leads me to believe that not all "Karens" are loud and abusive. I do think there's something lacking, going on.

Oh Oh boy The STORIES I could tell you from my mom's work She's the CEO of a local nonprofit that sounds pretty similar to where OP's dad works The stories I could give you Like the one from last week where they fired a woman who called the cops because they wouldn't let her back onto any of the properties to get three certificates that are very industry-specific and practically can't get used anywhere else. She called the cops and claimed that they were withholding her paycheck. They weren't. She had barely been fired a week and a half before this. She had been trespassed. Before that, when she was fired, she texted her manager and called her, among other things, a "psycho b***h". That was what put her on the "No hire" list and was told she would NOT be receiving any references from any of them. And then you also have the tale of someone else who was fired after my mom found out she was sleeping with a client, who was also her drug dealer. This staff member was not an addict before this. We don't know how that started. But apparently she was giving the client part of her paychecks and he had even moved in with her. My mom fired her but helped her put her life back together. She had to move down to Texas to stay with family for a little bit as the client and some of his people stole her car, broke into her house, etc. She had to sell her house and it was a messy year as she tried to get it all sorted, but she's since moved back here, got a job, and is coming up on 5 years clean, so :)

One thing I have learned from all of these stories... if someone asks if you want to press charges against the Karens and Kens (crazy jerks of the world), you say "YES!" They need to know there are consequences for their behavior, because they've gotten away with it for far too long. I imagine a lot of these people were spoiled by their parents/families and never told "No" or punished for their behavior growing up, or they're narcissists...or both.
