Fun story about Encanto: Disney execs also didn’t think Luisa was cool or pretty and got kinda blindsided by the high demand for Luisa merch. They expected little girls to like Isabela way more (which they didn’t, because she was kinda prickly for a big part of the movie). The animators also had to fight to keep Luisa’s body type, because she was not deemed conventionally pretty enough. Instead she turned out to be one of the most beloved characters on the cast. That dude couldn’t be more wrong, actually :D

A lot of people don't watch movies to see perfectly average people. They watch movies to see women as beautiful and sexy as Aphrodite, and men sculpted like Adonis with pecks you can cut steel on. Why would people go to the movies to watch average people? They can look in the street for that. The only reason movies like Encanto "get away with it" so to speak is because they're targeted at children. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is right. I'm just saying it's how a lot of people think, even if they often don't even realize it.

The world's youngest mother was five years old. She apparently started getting her period when she was a toddler but no one figured out that's what it was. The photo of her at seven months pregnant is literally so sad, her belly is almost as big as she is... Her son had to be delivered by c section because her poor little body wasn't developed enough to deliver safely... (Also iirc the father was never discovered. They thought it was her father who abused her, but I think they didn't find any evidence to support that)

so tired of hearing the "well back in the old days girls could get married and have babies young". Historians have talked about this and how it's untrue, and was in fact looked down upon when someone DID take a young teenage wife; and often when that did happen, it was generally a royal wedding and the husband was expected to wait until the girl was older before they consummated the marriage. Like just... stop dudes. Stop sexualizing kids? Damn and they say us queer folks are "sexualizing the youth" by making them aware that we simply exist pfft

Let's also not forget that back, "iN oLdEn TiMeS," childhood _ended_ at age 13. You didn't "symbolically" become an adult at 13, you were expected to start behaving as an adult, doing the same work as an adult, _behaving responsibly, like an adult_ … so _everyone was raised with this in mind._ None of this, "yOu'Re StIlL a BaBy," up to 20 years, 11 months, 31 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, then _instantly_ at 21 *_poof!_* you're a fully functioning adult. You were raised and taught to become an adult at 13, then from 13-18 you were apprenticed to someone who trained you and let you build experience. But you were still an adult … an inexperienced one, but an adult nonetheless. We don't do that anymore. We stopped doing that in the 20th Century. We're not prepared for adulthood, we're just kinda thrown into it at 21.

It’s so funny when some men use the term “alpha male” because the guy who coined the term for wolves found the the rank system for wolves was a family system. I remember looking into this and it’s kind of crazy. The guy said there was an alpha male on his first or maybe second time studying them, and then went on to say that he was mistaken (in the same journal) and described the hierarchy of wolves (it’s pretty much just family units but a bit more complex). And as you said, he spent the rest of his life trying to dispel the existence of an “alpha wolf”. And the fact that people look at the hierarchy of humans the same way as wolves is insane to me. Do they honestly think that the wolf version of Jeff Bezos or Joe Biden would be the leader of their respective packs? Very few people rise to the top of their social hierarchy by being stronger or bigger than their counterparts. Humans are much more complex than that.

As a historian it is one of my biggest pet peeves that people think that throughout history girls were considered adult women when they started their periods. Child marriage did unfortunately hapoen, mostly among elites who were unethically picky about bloodlines. But in general, over all, throughout history and around the world, marrying or having inter course with a girl under 16 or generally more than 5 to 10 years younger than you was looked down on and often heavily ridiculed. It wasn't like is today, but people act like it was totally normal and accepted in society when it definitely wasnt. There are stories about entire villages running men out of town for wanting to marry teenage girls. I'm talking 16th century englan, ancient Egypt, golden age China, and colonial america.

@@dragonfliesnh4204 You are confusing close in age laws with age of consent. Close in age laws exist most places but if the age of consent is 16 that generally means someone 16 can be with any age 2-4 years younger(close in age laws) or any age above theirs. Where I live it was very common for girls when I was around that age to date people who were 18-25(never saw anyone date older than that though). The only stipulation that is universal is they aren’t allowed to take and/or share explicit photos until 18.

It’s not incorrect that discomfort during penetration can be caused by medical or psychological issues but the way he frames it as « she broke up with me because she doesn’t understand sex » is completely missing the mark. Also even if it were true that she had medical issues preventing her from enjoying penetration, those kinds of issues are usually not resolved after one appointment. They can take a long time, sometimes years, to overcome, so he would still have to be okay with exploring other ways to enjoy intimacy together outside of penetration for as long as it would take her to want to try it again.

Joke's on that dudebro because a man in the medieval period was considered to be a grown adult fit to marry and have kids around 30 and no earlier because they had to have learned a trade and be able to provide for their family. And the myth that people were considered boinkable at 13 is because nobles tended to arrange marriages when the kids were young but there was no actual wedding and consummation until MUCH LATER. But it was not the norm (royals and nobles were not the norm). Heck, the reason why Juliet is 13 in the play is precisely to show how fucked up it is that her father decides to marry her off in a fit of the Father Tantrum.

@@AIHumanEquality Mostly it comes from church records. Across Europe, they were pretty good at recording births, marriages and deaths. This left behind a pretty good sample size to determine lifestyle statistics. The average person married between 21-25. They died around 75-80, barring death at birth or war. The whole "died at 30" came from averages being pulled down due to a huge number of infant deaths. The "married at 13" came from it being common to BETROTH children and adolescents, even though those marriages rarely took place or were consummated. Fun fact it has never been normal to have s3x with children. The age of menstruation has gone down significantly since the advent of factory farming/hormones in food/genetic factors. In the 1800s menarche began on average at 16. The average age of marriage through recorded times was 19-21 with men being 3-5 years older. In fact you can see in the oft-cited Romeo and Juliet characters in the play keep telling them they are too young. Sometimes nobility would “marry” as children but that was more of a betrothal to cement a political alliance - average people didn’t get married until they were able to live independently, and biologically the best time for a woman to have children is her 20s (intersection of fertility and bodily strength.). Teenagers have worse outcomes for pregnancy medically for both mother and baby. So this p3do apologist behavior pretending that little girls are supposed to be having kids can f right off.

09:35 In case anyone is curious The reason why the age of consent is lower in most countries is because they don't want teenagers to be punished by the law for having relationships with others teens It DOESN'T mean they are supposed to have relationships with adults, those countries have their own laws around this and, more likely, expect parents/legal guardians to protect their children from this type of situation

Precisely. Where I’m at it’s like this: 1. Age of consent is 16 *unless* the older person is in a position of authority (teacher, camp leader etc). 2. People below the age of 16 can legally have relations with other people if the age difference is 3 years or less!

In England the age of consent is 16. There are exceptions to this rule. It is illegal for anyone in a position of trust to have sexual contact with anyone aged 17 or under who is in their care. Sexting with anyone under the age of 18 is also illegal.

Yup, where I'm from, if you're 12-13, its a two year difference (both parties would be under 16), and if you're 14-15, its a max 5 year year difference (the oldest would be no older than 19-20) and 16-17 year olds can't consent to someone who is in a position of trust over them

And I think thats a lovely way to put it. In that instance, not knowing that not all women climax vaginally is ok, but it's NOT ok to tell her she's broken because of that and assume you're the one who's correct when she's telling you otherwise. And he didn't insist that she was broken (according to the story _as told),_ but suggested that there may be a medical issue and that she should go have it checked. Both partners were really bad at communicating in that story, pinning the blame solely on the BF is unreasonable. (Unless the telling of the story is heavily skewed and leaves out important details, but how can we _know_ that without having heard both sides?)

Not an average straight woman. As a gay man who came out in the late 70s, living in a big city. Having sex once a week (going out to a bar or bathhouse) is 52 people a year. From 18 to 30 is 12 years. So, 624 by the age of 30. If you have sex twice a week, that's 1248. And to pre-empt the people who equate promiscuity with AIDS; I knew people who had sex more than once a day who used condoms - therefore didn't get venereal diseases. I knew people who were monogamous (including a hetereosexual Orthodox Jewish Grandmother whose husband got HIV through a transfusion) who got AIDS. HIV is a virus not a divine judgement.

When you put it into numbers like that, it... doesn't actually seem that crazy. Wild to someone who isn't interested in one-night-stands, sure, but that's essentially one new guy each weekend or one on a weekend and one to blow off some steam mid-week, with the occasional week off or with one of the previous guys instead of a brand new one. Absolutely infeasible for someone in the countryside but in a major metropolitan area, it shouldn't be that difficult to manage, especially with dating apps that allow you to specify that you're only looking for flings. ...Twice weekly is literally how often my partner attends D&D sessions, and less time commitment 🤣

She got up and did her hair and makeup and wore stylish outfits and heels to work EVERY single day. We had days long games of monopoly and risk, played videogames together, she read constantly, and she took us to the beach and amusement parks all the time in summer. She did all that and worked full time AND had a social life. It was probably hard, but I'll be damned if she didn't do a good job at being a mom. No man, it is legal. No one mixing up anything. That’s the whole thing about age of consent duh Otherwise it makes no sense. In the UK the age of consent is 16, which means it's legal for adults of any age to have consensual sex with a 16-year-old - provided they are not in a position of trust, such as their teacher. The age of consent is the age at which a person is considered to be legally competent to consent to sexual acts. If one person is 16, it doesn’t matter how older the other person is, it’s still legal. So yeah, no offense, but you really should learn laws and definitions before saying anything. It is quite annoying when people do so without doing a minimum research. I honestly don’t know where or when some ppl for some reason began to say that the age of consent is only for those who under 18, but this is just false. You’re spreading misinformation
@karasu543

@@malkuusha"Currently, the age of consent for penetrative sex, oral sex and mutual masturbation in the United Kingdom is 16 years. This means that if any individual 18 or older has sex with someone 15 or less, then they may be charged with a criminal offence and may receive a 14-year prison sentence. The law also applies to those under 18 but above 15 with a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison." Please do your research. It took 30 seconds to search on Wikipedia, then copy and paste. Please do not spread misinformation.

@@karasu543 lol what it has to do with anything I said? Are you okay? We were talking about the situation where one person is 16 and the other is over 18, which is legal. We weren’t talking about situations where anyone is under 16. Idk maybe you should’ve read my comment and the comment of a person who I was replying to before commenting anything else I mean sorry but it’s kinda pathetic

@@ryryo2423 I’ve read it just fine thank you. Again, what does it have to do with anything we were talking about? We weren’t talking about the cases when one person is under 18 but above 15 and the other person is under 16. We weren’t talking about the cases when one person is under 16 and the other is over 18. We were talking only about the cases when one person is above 16 but under 18 and the other person is above 18, which is, yet again, legal. It’s honestly getting funny, it’s like I’m talking about the sky and you’re talking about the ground. UPD: You even made me doubt myself a little so I googled it again and searched through many different sites and everywhere it says it’s legal. Which is quite predictable, since this what “age of consent” is about, an age when you can give your consent to whoever 🤷🏼‍♀️

I remember a video a while back of a woman doing an experiment where she would wear a variety of different outfits when walking down the street and passing male construction workers. She wore from every day office wear, to evening out dress, to big oversized hoodies and messy buns and no makeup. Every time, the men always cat called and wolf whistled and made obscene comments. The ‘it’s because they dressed like they asked for it’ thing has got to stop being a lame excuse for why women can’t go anywhere or dress anyhow without being objectified.

It's eye opening and tragic, but a good way to shut down the "What were you wearing" argument. That argument is a myth to blame victims. I can't exactly remember because I've had multiple incidents involving SA (not always with the same person, different guys), alot I've repressed because I was younger (3rd grade is one time I distinctly remember) The types of outfits I remember showing up the most are pajamas, t-shirts (long or short), pants, shorts, hoodies or sweaters, jeans, and sneakers The most recent period started when I was 17, despite not physically touching me, my older brother will stare at me with his hands being in very suspicious places, I've called him out but he doesn't listen. Mom wonders why I don't get along with him, this is why, she doesn't believe me though.
