Fun fact: the company that makes government mandated calculators for schools has had a monopoly for over 10 years in a lot of countries. Likewise,neither the technology nor their overpriced prices have improved. Even though you can make more reliable, smaller, more energy efficient and less expensive electronics, even without resorting to outsourcing to developing nations. Putting entirely aside that 99% of student already own phones that have all the hardware required to fulfill the same purposes in class and they can just hand out school-owned calculatiors for exams so there is no cheating. Tl;Dr: Governments don't give a crap about people
