Kyle, I first just have to say that your videos rock man, the way you explain whatever it is your telling could not be any better. Now my question is... Is this upgrade for the rover offered threw RadPower Bikes ? Or is it marketed by some other company who made it specifically for the popular rover? I my self have a RadCity I got in August of 2018 I use it as my main form of transportation. I live in North Seattle where we have a climate that allows for year round cycling but we have hills in this city that could make an 8 cylinder sports car even complain. E bikes especially in a city like this are a complete game changer in options of transpirtation. I have put nearly 4000 miles on my radcity sense August last year. That's more than a few friends of mine have put on there cars, so I can say these bikes hold up fairly well. I have had probably 5 or 6 flat tires probably because seattle let's the conditions of the roads here go to hell Its bad. But I am wondering if there any upgrades available that would be compatible with the radcity ? As you probably know the city has a direct drive motor they say is a 750 watt but who knows the real number is lol.

I took the old clamps brackets off the existing controller and used the long bolts and nuts that came with the kit and they worked perfect. I also put a strip of self adhesive velcro in between the frame and controller more for a cushion pad. Super solid and easy to install.

Well... I changed C1 to 3 and now it works!.... could have sworn I tried that. Thank you so much...this bike is a beast now....nobody in my area has anything like it thanks to what you do. By using these settings my power assist started working P1 = 100 P2 = 5 P3 = 0 P4 = 0 P5 = 15 C1 = 3 C2 = 0 C3 = 8 C4 = 3 C5 = 10 C6 = 3 C7 = 1 C8 = 0 C9 = 0 C10 = n C11 = 0 C12 = 4 C13 = 0 C14 = 2 Hope this helps!!!

A word of caution. Putting nutzerts or even screws into the down tube that holds the seat post will either lock in the seat post in place or not allow the seat post to be reinserted. If you bought an air suspension post, you will ruin it. The u-bolts are the best option.

I did this upgrade. Let me warn you about one thing. If you do the install with nutserts be cautious on the mounting. I had to cut a portion of my seat post out to fit over the nutsert.

Waiting to see The Bolten Bolt (Radover) as I call it. I expect it to stop, claim easier and go faster. Got ebike project that is not running so this might be what I could adapt to put back on the road. Like that you mount things right from the get go. Nice 👍🖖

I agree completely James. I've had several hill climbing crashes when the maxed out motor stalled on my Rover. A 1000 W (or more) high performance motor would be a welcome addition!

My 2018 Radrover has a controller with a spec label noted at 16.5 amps max, 8 amps continuous. The LCD watt gauge never exceeds 750 watts, which the bike is supposedly limited too. I haven't inspected /evaluated the motor as of yet, to determine if the motor is a true 750 watt version, but will be doing that soon. I feel the LCD3 or LCD8 with a 35 amp controller is surely a great upgrade. Even with a 500 watt motor, the C5 setting in the display "settings parameters" can always be adjusted to reduce the max current. I'm confident the motor on my Rad is way underpowered. I surely would enjoy the befits from an additional boost with torque from a 35 amp controller, and the ability to customize those motor power settings, ect, ect, ect... Looking forward to the upgrade kit. It's hard to find those plug n play upgrades for any one particular make and model e-bike.

Will the higher amperage harm the stock battery.. Will this controller try to draw to much continuous amps?

@@jockyboy9606 The stock battery is all wired up internally with 14ga wire. Most rate that size wire for 20 amps continuous max (or maybe less). So assuming the BMS was able to handle higher current (not likely), and the battery cells were able to generate higher current (again not likely), you would still be limited by the gauge of the wire used - when talking "continuous". For short bursts, IMHO, 30a potential is pretty good.

Because the bikes are so similar, do you think this RadRover controller conversion kit would be compatible with the Himiway Cruiser (the Himiway is not a Bafang motor - it's a Luanxing 750W rear hub motor)?

7:28 - I personally wouldn't drill a hole for a controller box just because controller boxes vary in size depending on wattage. Water bottle holes which are the same size for hailong batteries I would drill for. You can use bottle bobs from Grin Tech though which eliminates the need to drill and is just as sturdy.

Upgrade is awesome, and you can get it to fit the RadMini 4 with it's mechanical torque advantage of a smaller wheel radius. The stock motor can handle the power fine (at least mine does), and I've intentionally powered up long hills at 16mph that most people have to get off and walk up. The stock motor still has an internal speed restriction, as even with no load it will not go beyond 25.3 mph. It doesn't appear to be a power or voltage issue, as you can see the power being intentionally reduced. If the speed was being limited by voltage, you would still be seeing power levels over 1,500 watts at top speed. You don't, and at 22 mph, the power rolls off to 500 or 600 watts. Is there a way to disable this limiter for off road use? Taping over the second pin of the motor connector only disables the speedometer without increasing the speed.

Hi Kyle. First off, I have watch quite a few of your videos and they are very informative and very easy to understand. Great job and thanks. I am one of the unlucky ones that has to buy a bike according to Canadian rules. I found out after purchasing my 2019 Rad Rover that there is a difference between the USA and Canadian limits on max power output. I'm a little disappointed in this and my quest for more power through the folks at Rad Power has come to a dead end. This is where I came across your videos, specifically the Rover upgrade. The 35A controller and LCD upgrade looks very enticing. However, I'm wondering if you would be willing to sell me one of the stock 22A controllers that is a take-off from an upgrade you did?The Max output on the Canadian controller is 12A and I feel the 22A would probably satisfy me for now and would be a very simple upgrade.

The upgraded controller Sent up isn't so easy on the 2019 Rad Rover.... It looks like the monitor cable connection is up in the frame...it's not down by other connections... And may be extra cable splits from monitor cable to integrated headlight. Is it possible to !and a video showing how to connect the 2018 controller to the 2019 Rover?.... Or I may have to pay to get a shop to do it. Thanks for your time.

My neighbor just bought this same unit for his Rad Rover, we can not get it to power on at al. The battery is topped off and 53 volts on the output pins. We have re-seated all the plugs numerous times, and just can not get the unit to power on. Any ideas?

Bolton Ebikes Hi. A few things: not sure if the bike in the video is a 2018 radrover, but would this mod be worthwhile on a 2019 radrover? Overtime will this cause any sort of substantial degradation to the battery/motor? Also, the Programming the KTLCD link is broken. Thanks very much

Apparently it works fine on a 2019 but you lose the rear light controls. Headlight is still supported. What’s odd is they are still out of stock with no information on pre orders or time estimates.

Alright Bolton where is the other part to this? I’ve been looking for months haven’t seen it. I own a Rad mini with 750 watt motor and have had the bike gone over by bike shops here. Mikes Bikes in Walnut Creek says it’s a 750 watt say’s too a e-bike shop here in Benicia. Not sure where your coming from with out more info. Are you going to do the other video?

I have the ‘19 radrover and it can handle speeds of 38mph, but I can tell that the tires and bike itself wouldn’t be able to hold that speed for long. It comes stalk @ 20mph, but you can kick it up to just below 25. (There’s a dude who’s video shows you how to do so). Anyway, it’s so much fun, and I do wish I can get it up to 30mph or so, it’d be fun, and I can dart past moose a bit better! You gonna work on the 2019, and if so, how much would it cost?

So I just upgraded my RadRover 5 with this Bolton controller. Everything is great, except for when I turn on the headlight. (by holding the up arrow) The light turns on, but immediately I get a "THROTTLE Fault!" message on the screen. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Thanks.

@@pstu67 So it appears that when I installed the controller, I bent one of the pins on the 10 pin cable running form the controller to the screen. I was not able to get the pin in after unplugging the cable, so now I'm waiting on a new cable to show up.

I bet Ariel Rider is using a 750 watt Bafang and just juicing it up to say it's 1,000 watt nominal and 1,800 or 2,000 peak.. Just using a special custom winding.. 33-35 amp controllers depending on model.

Hey Hi Yall! The RadRover Upgrade Kit doesn't necessarily increase speed. That can be determined by a lot of things. This does help with added torque, which depending on circumstances, might increase speed.

The new controller sucks out a lot more battery and stalls the bike motor if you crank the throttle a ton . I took my upgrade on a test run with heavy throttle up steepish hills , I hit 27 miles per hour on a slight but long downhill without pedaling, the ride was 2 hours 21 minutes long and only traveled 11.6 miles , stopping checking things out , looking at the surf etc. I really had to baby it home as the battery was draining so badly and the cutoff came quick .

I don't understand does this channel not do any custom fabrication work I have the exact same controller. With the same voltage & same amps & same size. I have a 58 volt battery on it. It can handle more than 60+ volts. I had the same problem with pedal assist. Easy fix need to swap the wires around. Took me 5 minutes to work it out & fix. If you didn't want to cut any wires or anything like that. It would have took 10-minutes to take controller apart and swap wire around. You certainly don't need to order anything or contact anyone LOL. I have my controller in the exact same place. But I use a controller box what i bought for £10. I have the wires & connect inside the controller box. Obviously out of the box it doesn't fit you have to make it fit. The gap between the wheel and controller was much smaller on my ebike. Just a little bit of fabrication work and it looks as good like out the factory.

Yes, but a geared hub motor can't use it. On a direct drive hub you do have some basic regen settings.
