I just gave away bags of cording.. the kind used in home decor around pillows, cushions, duvet covers, etc. I could have used it to make these baskets! Oh well- had to purge some stuff to make room. No baskets for me…. I decided I can’t do it all.. can’t do everything! There’s just not enough time in a day, or week, or year. Stuff just piles up…I don’t have storage sheds (she sheds) like some people
@JeriBellini6 ай бұрын
The same exact thing happens to me! I give something away and then find a use for it. My daughter says "Use Walmart (or another store) as a storage shed" Meaning just buy the stuff when you need it and don't keep it in your house! LOL 💜💜💜

Huh, I never heard of fiber cord before. Cheap Engineer in me probably would go with rope. 😊
@JeriBellini6 ай бұрын
Ha! Yes, you could use rope, it's just not as pliable. 💜

I have been making these vessels for 7 years and it is easier if you wrap away from you. 🇨🇦

I know that both Jeri (on this channel)and Kathryn (on her channel at k3n) have both explained and demonstrated plying fabric strips into yarn for cordage, basketry etc. This is essentially what spinning wheels do with plyed wool. So, I'm wondering if anyone has tried plying fabric strips on their wheels? I loved plying wool on mine, so I'm gonna give it a try if i can get strips small enough. This wrap technique is also fun, which I have done with yarn of all sorts, and have used "rafia" cord as the base/foundation. There arent enough hours in the day....❤

What an interesting question and one that has my mind going in so many directions! 💜💜💜

Right now, I'm hand twining TShirt material because of its tendancy to curl in on itself, making for very round "smooth" cord. Also anchoring cord to a very thick ethafoam base with T pins, allow both hands to twist the materials together. (Ethafoam is used as packing material, and is more pliable than the old Styrofoam). Wrapping the twisted cord around the ethafoam base as I go, will also allow me to handle the yardage I hope to make, and helps keep things relatively taut and out of the way. The wheel has yet to come into the picture...lol.

This is a great idea. I'd love to have a go at it. I'm wondering -- have you tried runningba head of glue down the inner cord & wrapping, say, 5 or 6 yards ahead so that you can sew a couple of coils before wrapping again? I ask because I'm looking for a hand project to do while watching tv in bed. I don't think I can handle the glueing part in my lap.
@JeriBellini5 ай бұрын
That's a great idea. I'd wrap a little, then glue a little, then wrap then a few dots of glue... I don't see why that wouldn't work! 💜

I love this little pot, Jeri. Would be cute for a plant, too. Did you use that entire ball of fabric strips to make this? Just trying to guage how much I would need for a 3 inch vessel.
@JeriBellini6 ай бұрын
No, I hardly used much, I'm sorry I didn't measure but I'd say a few yards. 💜

Love this project, Jeri❣️ I have tightly crocheted or knitted baskets with fabric strips, even some flat pieces like placemats, chair mats, and small rugs. BUT...I'm wondering what you think about laundering these types of fabric pieces. What's been your experience with coiled pieces made with fabric wound around cord? Thank you.
@JeriBellini6 ай бұрын
I've washed my rugs in the washing machine, however the things that are wrapped around a coil/cord, I would not immerse, I would wipe them off with a damp rag. If something really disgusting fell on it I would swish it around in warm soapy water and let drip dry outside. 💜

While youre wrapping the fabric around the fiber cord, it seems like the ball of "yarn" should be being passed around the cord as you proceed, yet i don't see the ball? Are you using individual strips and securing them as tou go? I cant tell ...
@JeriBellini6 ай бұрын
I cut off a length of "yarn" but you could pass the ball around too if you didn't want to cut it off. I like the little knots from adding new pieces. Thanks for watching! 💜
