Only one time that happened to me and after he did that I showed him my ass. A lot of engineers and conductors don't like to be video'd by any rail fanner but they should just cover there face instead of doing that. He should be grateful that us rail fanner's look out for them instead of rail haters throwing rocks at them or trying to sabotage the railroad. I would rather like a rail fan than a rail hater.

It seems odd that people in the rail industry would hate people who are interested in the rail industry. It would be like a sports team hating their fans. It is especially odd considering that most young people have no exposure to railroads other than museums when they were children.

From the looks of it, it seems to me like this conductor was a younger guy. Usually the old school guys are very friendly to railfans while many of the younger guys are rude (although I have met many young guys too who are extremely friendly to railfans and a few old school guys who were mean). I think the employees who are rude to railfans, just see their profession as nothing more than a job (probably due to stress and long hours which makes them like that) while the friendlier ones have a strong interest in the heritage of the railroads.
@Thunderhawk-fr6qv5 жыл бұрын

@A thunderbolt siren With a EAS tornado warning Actually you're incorrect, what killed the railroad is the airlines. When airlines started passenger and then FREIGHT service, and you could get you or a companies freight to its destination in half the time or even less that was the DEMISE of Rail Service. The automobile literally had a very MINOR IMPACT on rail service. And you never hear the government subsidizing the railroads with any cash any longer, they may, but it is very small. But they sure spend a lot of government money subsidizing airlines! So since the gov't started doing that, it took money that the railroads needed to keep up their trains, buy new locomotives, rolling stock, track/signal maintenance, and a host of other things associated with BOTH Freight and Passenger Service. Even AMTRAK being "gov't subsidized" at one time {I don't think it is any longer} doesn't get much from them to maintain their fleet either. So it's no wonder AMTRAK is still using outdated Passenger Cars and Locomotives. The railroads actually got the shaft, but now, it seems they are making a comeback, but mostly on their own merits and that many companies are now using rail over airline services because it's a lot cheaper to travel or ship freight by rail than it is by aircraft.

I see two issues on his actions: 1) It's unprofessional action. When you're an employee of a company, you represent that company; and that means there's a degree of professionalism you're expected to maintain. If you flipped off an employee or just a random person while performing the duties at most companies, you'd be written up for such behavior. I get that people don't like being filmed. But as at least one other person pointed out, you can certainly duck back enough to not be visible. 2) Would you do something like that if there was a kid standing there? I know, there wasn't, but what if there was? What if you didn't see the kid? Or what if a person who happens to be filming is a person who has some disabilities and this is a source of joy for them? If the person who's filming is following the rules, they're not trespassing, they're doing everything in a reasonable and logical manner, just leave them be. I mean, where's the line in how you handle a bad day? If you're a doctor having a bad day, are you allowed to be a prick to your patients? If you're in such a bad state of mind, especially if it's regularly, seriously consider talking to a counselor. There's obviously something upsetting or bothering you, and you need to work on it before you do something more self-destructive.

The crew asked if I would give them a ride in my car up the tracks. They got some pieces of steel out of the caboose ( about 1985 ) and put them in my car. I took them to the spots where they needed to fix the couplers. After that, every time that crew went by my house on the train, they gave me a shout out on the scanner. I'm from Baltimore but live in Japan. Here there are many railfans of all ages, men and women. Around where I live in Tokyo you often see them filming a freight line that runs in front of the house. I bought the house because the third floor looks directly out onto a major line 15 feet away, so a train goes by every few minutes. But I have never seen any fan trespass on railroad property, so there is no antagonism between those who shoot and those who are shot (so to speak). Fans sometimes have unbelievably long lenses to photograph far away trains, but they don't cross the line. A few times I have been tempted (I used to hop trains for hundreds of miles in the U.S.) but I don't want to ruin the delicate balance. By the way, your videos are great and much appreciated.

I tried to figure it out and the only thing I can really think of that he was that kid in school who at the last minute as the photo is being taken he either rolls his eyes to get the zombie effect, crossed his eyes or threw up bunny ears with his fingers at group photos. By doing this he's photo bombed your video.. I knew a guy who wouldn't stay still long enough to be photographed. He'd open his mouth super wide. He end did it for his school!identification photo he was just that wild. This still doesn't excuse the conductor.

Those old tunnel motors are finding homes on these smaller class II railroads. LTEX, a leasing agency has over 200 locomotives, including some former SP tunnels. They are very nice locomotives. Too bad class I railroads are phasing out most of these 3,000 hp workhorses.

I've had a very impatient MBTA conductor who just stared at me and many other passengers last time I rode the commuter rail. He looked like the actor who played Captain America but don't let that fool you, this dude gave me really creepy vibes.

We care about what they do, and we appreciate all of their hard work. We understand that railroads are the backbone of America. But they hate us. As a 40 year + train watcher, I dont understand. In fact I dont understand how anybody could hate another human being.

The railroaders gang up and hate on the railfans . facebook is bad about that
@Rbyrd775 жыл бұрын
@@garyhelton6113 Well I have thought about it, and if thats how they feel about us, then hell with it. I'll still watch a train if one is nearby, but as far as everything else, I quit. Knowing that somebody hates you for what you enjoy doing, just takes the fun out of it. I am sick of all the hate in this lousy world. I deleted Facebook completely out of my life after nine years. I guess after over 40 years, I will do the same with trains, railroads, ect ect. My question is, WHY do they hate us? I mean why live your life that way?
@joshuapalmer48505 жыл бұрын
it's mostly an saftey issue rail fans go out in their reflective vest and train crews don't know who they are or why they are there also if someone is trying to catch a certain train they may not notice another one coming it's just best if everyone stays away from them all together like sharks look from a far and please don't wear vests if your close enough that u need it you shouldn't be there
