Don't forget the jeep was in the air and the suspension was at full drop when he was looking at them. Didn't really get to see a good shot of it on the ground but the axles definitely do not have enough clearance. Cheap, poorly designed lift kit for sure. problem now is if they remove the kit, will the wheel and tire combo still fit without rubbing? They may need a new combo or a better quality lift installed.

'Lifting' in particular I feel is one of the weirder modern day trends. I mean look at those wheels... a poodle's paws has more dirt on them. This thing is a pavement princess. Having a higher center of gravity means they can tip over easy, and as shown, wreck everything else in the process.

@@kevinorr6880 I agree. Maintenance requirements on average are all you need to look at. That sensor module in the front wheel well is a classic nonsense idea. It was probably whacked by a flying stone. The nutty wiring routing through heat-generating and moving regions is also plain stupid. Disintegration of otherwise durable plastic protective trunking over the wire looms is plain evidence of this.

It needs the sunroof drains unclogged. The seal is more of a wind noise seal, not necessarily a water tight seal. Water always leaks past the seal. That's why there are drains...and they clog with dirt.

In this case code reading diagnostics only added more to the confusion, switching a couple of relays and a visual inspection is what led Ray to " Getting Jiggy With It". The fix is what men do to make old Christmas tree lights come on. I wouldn't go so far as to call him genius level but the guy is no doubt savvy. He is both competent and confident. He'll be the first to admit when he's delving in areas of uncertainty, this is where his honesty shines. It would be fair to say even without the code reader, Ray would have eyeballed the missing wire loom and suspected wire chafing that was causing the Gremlins. If you take in the whole picture, wrong wheel tire package , incompatible lift geometry and suspension , rattling heat shield, damaged case on the wheel speed sensor, missing wire looms, torn rubber boots, you can almost deduce that the problems with this Cherokee were self inflicted.

Sometimes things just pop up on her without warning, other times she tells me it hurts here, but lies to me. lol but she has a lot of family memories attached to this old girl, I have taken her up 45-degree slopes on rocky mountain roads passing other full blown 4x4's and she has never let me down, my 38-year-old daughter is really attached to her she calls her old RED. lol

For the sunroof water leak - Check the drain tube before looking at the seal. Those get clogged from dirt debris often. You may just have to clean them out or make sure the tube isn't pinched.

I had to laugh at the washer issue as it reminded me of the shower my daughter got while we drove through a rain storm. Upon returning home i found the drain hole for the moon roof was clogged. Since i had plenty of trimmer line i just threaded it through the hole until it came out under the car. No more showers. 😊😊

Exhaust ground, right side underbody at rear end of 'Y' pipe. This is a double-strap eyelet with flat ground straps with a bolt connection to the body. One of the straps attaches to the closest stud on the exhaust clamp under the nut. The other strap from body connects to the exhaust hanger bracket lower bolt/nut which is connected to the rear of the transmission.

A friend had the same issue with her GC, check engine light and a million codes. I casually suggested check the ground strap on the transmission and of course it had rotted out. Fixed that and no more codes. Funny enough it wasn't long after the Jeep got replaced with a Landcruiser.

@@nissan300ztt In the days before computer control became a thing on cars/trucks/vans, 90% could be fixed with minimal equipment, just a bag of spanners, a jack, and a good service manual, I'm no mechanic, but on pre 80s cars I often fixed a fault on my own, with just a circuit tester/light and a few spanners and a trusty Haynes workshop manual. I don't stand a chance with modern cars, as I couldn't justify the expense of the diagnostic equipment needed just to locate a fault, I maybe old but I remember pre computer days when they were just coming into our lives, that our teacher told us " these computers are going to make your lives so much easier" how wrong could someone with a higher education be lol, I mean come on, get a power out and the world comes to a standstill !!!!

Take a GoPro with you and have them show you. Do NOT give them your phone... or give them an old phone. I always insist at looking at "the problem" before they "fix" it. And they hate it, especially since I'm a woman. (Worked in auto industry over 25 yrs) They always say "no customers in the shop" I tell them I got steel toes on. If they don't let me see, I say put it back together, I'm leaving... Yeah, they have a sign, big deal. The shop I go to now is very accommodating. Also, since I can tell them what the issue is, they know I know things. They're amazed at the condition of my 15 yo SUV @144k. (Cause I don't let clowns work on it.) 🤡

I bought a 2010 GMC Sierra 2 WD that the previous owner had installed a spindle lift kit on. I put it all back to stock, put stock wheels and tires on it. Upgraded brakes and rotors, removed the Chinese LED lights, repaired a bunch of hacked wires and installed wheel liners that were MIA. Spent some time and $, but I know what I have now. Still chasing an intermittent parasitic draw. Saved thousands by doing it myself. My ex moved to New York, and just got a $1050 bill for an alternator and a battery… She’s learning how much we saved by me “playing “ with our vehicles….. That would have been $500-600 DIY…..

Ray I've been watching your videos since before you got your own shop. I really appreciate your wire trouble shooting methods. If you were in Ohio I'd bring my rusted 2000 Astro to you for work. :) But the reason I'm writing this is about the lift Kit. Most that install these lift kits don't understand that they need to either lengthen the sway bar linkage the same lift height or lower the sway bar mounting brackets or the sway bar will hold the suspension up putting great stress on the sway bar ends. I have a 2008 GC with over 400,000 miles and another 2016 with 152,000 miles. No problems with regular maintenance. Are they perfect? No, but there isn’t a perfect vehicle. Lift kits installed aftermarket tend to cause several problems in the long run.

I apologize in advance for this long comment. I hope something down below might be useful for you or, maybe, one of the other folks who follow your channel. Sir - I am a lifelong Jeep owner, rebuilder, and restorer. Mostly CJs, but I also have a 2005 Grand Cherokee (WK) 5.7L Hemi Limited which was the first year of the Daimler redesign of the Cherokee line, and the first year of IFS replacing the solid “live axle” on the WJ to the WK. Fiat didn’t buy Chrysler until 2014. I have found the Quadra Drive 2 (QD2) transmission and NV245 transfer case to be fairly bullet proof, but a major failure point can be the Final Drive Control Module (FDCM - located under the left-rear seat) if it was only flashed with the initial update, but not the second update. Sorry, I don’t recall the TSB numbers right now. The WK can also benefit by replacing the OEM Bosch fuel sending unit with a Delphi unit that has the larger, more robust electric fuel pump. FYI - I cut the floor open immediately below the FDCM to gain easy access to the fuel sending unit on top of the fuel tank, then made a sealed hatch for future easy access. Aluminum tape can also be used to further seal the access hatch. Just be sure not to cut the FDCM steel mounting tabs. The Service 4WD System message could mean a problem with the differential locking solenoids for the electric lockers (e-lockers), or their wiring pig-tails, if the vehicle has the OEM Off Road Package (look for the Trail Rated badge in front of the driver's door). Most likely, though, is the well know problem with the transfer case actuator motor that shifts the transfer case between High Range and Low Range when properly engaged using the silver lever on the center console. The original transfer case actuator's internal circuit board can experience a break in one of the traces which causes it to lose its ability to know the degree of rotation of the actuator. This problem was fixed in later years, but early WKs may still have the problematic component. Dorman makes an inexpensive replacement which may be adequate if the intent is to quickly and cheaply clear the code, but it will inevitably fail again within a couple of years - or sometimes within months. Standard makes this part for Chrysler, who rebrands it as MOPAR, which is available from Rock Auto for about half the OEM price - but with the Standard labels and a very good warranty (three years if I recall). The problem will essentially be permanently fixed by unplugging the harness and removing just four mounting bolts. I’m sure you know that the TPMS Control Module changed frequencies over the various model years, so it’s important to get the correct one for the WK rather than the WK2. They look the same, but are not. The 4.7L engine coupled with the QD2 and NV245 are quite robust IMO, but their weak point is obviously when the several wiring harnesses experience long-term exposure to salt corrosion - especially the connectors, grounds, and deteriorated insulation from normal vibration. The only practical solution is to replace worn/broken wires where needed and re-loom with plastic sleeving or fabric friction tape. Obviously, we only use crimp connectors to repair wires in high heat areas. Thanks for enduring this long missive. Have a Great Day! PS - the ignition key cylinder in the WK was subject to a safety recall several years ago. Dealerships were tasked with replacing the original key cylinders with a push-then-turn cylinder which prevented the vehicle from apparently spontaneously turning off - but was actually the weak ignition key cylinder unexpectedly turning to the off position during vehicle operation. The behavior of the key in your video seems to suggest the updated cylinder may have been repeatedly “forced” rather than first pushing before turning, thereby damaging the key cylinder. A new unit can easily be installed. FYI - the safety recall also required applying a round sticker next to the key that says “Push and Turn”, in both English and French, with an arrow indicating the direction of rotation.

1 ECM, 1 TCM, 1 BCM all interlinked, with several items passing through each control module, triggering multiple codes, causing customer palpitations and consternation, and giving the Mechanic a nightmare, all in the name of progress ! there are more cars hit the scrap yard these days because of " expensive repair bills" than there were 30 or 40 years ago, can you imagine a car of today still being around and drivable in 50 or 60 years, I mean look at some of the "old timer" cars, they've been on the road and covered more miles per breakdown, than any modern car can hope to achieve today

The spacers are the problem with that "lift", the actual lift is almost 2x what the spacer stated lift size is. It should be removed and trashed. Run a proper coil lift (OME or Dobinsons), either with the tuned shocks that come with/are for that lift or a set of Bilstein 5100's (the preferred setup) at lowest setting or mid circlip at most (modified lift). The JBA uppers (or RRO UCA's) are needed as well. I have this exact setup on my 07 CRD (as described) with no issues, no bad CV angles, and no diff drop (it isn't needed unless over 24+" of lift from center of hub to fender). Bad diff bushings could also be making/contributing to the clunking noises. Monroe Ford F150 load leveling shocks if the vehicle tows or hauls much of anything, as well, they fit. 👍 There's also a recall on the ignition & transfer case. New ignition has to be slightly pushed in to turn key on/off.

Nice job troubleshooting and not being overwhelmed with fault codes (as I would be). Your understanding of the complete system on these various vehicles is very impressive. That spacer lift on the front takes away suspension down travel by at least the amount of the spacer and probably more due to suspension geometry. I know on my 4Runner that any front spacer lift reduces front suspension down travel by the spacer thickness times 1.5. The overall suspension travel remains the same, the up travel increases by the amount the down travel decreases. And as you noticed the outer boots are rubbing on the lower control arm.

Electrical issues is almost certainly a true diagnosis But fix the ground-straps first! Bad grounds are a different kind of electrical issue - and much easier

Maybe a helpful note on the water in the passenger footwell. I had a 2002 Grand Cherokee flooding in that area and finally found that the collector behind the passenger carpet needed a longer drip tube. Added 8 inches of tubing and fixed...

Had a P0700 Recently last week ON a Customer 2019 Silverado and It was pared With a pressure Solenoid Valve 5 CODE chevy wants 992 dollars for the Entire Solenoid Pack for thr 8L80 transmission and Customer declined repair wanted to trade it being he had already fixed the transmission 9 times 4:30 @Rainman Ray's Repairs

LISTEN everybody--- keep after your car/truck. Don't wait for items to back up. A vehicle is two parts: (-1-) buy, (-2-) maintain. Kinda expect maintain to cost 1 or 2 months car payment FOREVER. I.E. you don't just buy a car because it ALSO needs attention.

The 05 Grand I had, the sunroof drains clog and is a pain to repair, dealer fix is replace the drain tubes. I used semi stiff wire working back and forth to clear the clog, less money. P.S. check a/c drain.

Lift kits cause damage to your driveline and suspension components. Also, they raise your vehicle's center of gravity making it less stable on turns!

The problem with all those DTC codes are probably the bad ground straps. Sure the rubbed through wires are probably causing an issue with whatever single wire has rubbed through but bad ground is going to be the cause of most of those DTCs guaranteed.

This vehicle is the poster child for the value of a pre-purchase inspection. It was not said if the vehicle was purchased with the lift kit or added after. Looks like the oversize tires tore up the module in the right wheel well. Cheap home brew lifts do not always go well. There are so many problems on this vehicle that there is going to be labor involved just figuring them out . How do you estimate the labor necessary in order to create the repair estimate🤣🤣🤣 Can you charge for that? Straightened out it could be a good vehicle for the owner and cheaper than a new one.
