Fly fishing for trout and mayfly hatches go hand in hand. At first blush, new fly fishers might think that tiny insects like mayflies can't possibly catch big brown or rainbow trout. Nothing can be further from the truth. Learning the various mayflies and their life cycle and habitat preferences, fly fishers can be extremely successful catching large rainbow and brown trout during mayfly hatches. In this video we focus on spotting rising trout, sighting trout holding just subsurface, and focus on great approach to the water and targeted casting during a mayfly hatch.

I'm not trying to cause conflict but 31K subscribers and 4K + views and only 60 patrons - really people, these are hands down some of the highest quality most informative videos produced out there. for the amount of time that we all spend watching these - everyone is going to be incredibly disappointed if they didn't support their efforts while they could - stop being cheap - flyfishing is an expensive sport - if you are flyfishing, then you can surely support their efforts before they disappear or go to a format that you will wish was cheaper when you could support or afford it. Wiser to maintain what you love and enjoy then take it for granted. just my $0.02 or should I say $5.00.

Thank you for as you have shared. Hopefully the support continues to grow and develop. We certainly appreciate all the support to date as it takes a LOT of time and $ to bring these around to the full productions. The two of us certainly work 6 or 7 days a week and usually 15 to 18 hrs a day on keeping everything going at the levels we've established :) Thank you for supporting us! Dave & Amelia

That last fish was a big brown! 😳 Worth crossing the river to get in better position I would say. Do the browns favor different parts of the run than the rainbows?
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth going at that one from that side, based on the best drift. It's not an absolute, but browns for the most part are lazy, so they quite often favor the tail-out or more edge water. The slower seamlines versus the main, slightly faster seamlines is where they typically like to call home.

@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 жыл бұрын
size is always only relevant to where we fish, isn't it? A 14" N Carolina brookie would get the tickertape parade! A 4lb brown in New Zealand would be a "shake it off so I can go after the actual fish" to some Kiwis. All in perspective! :)

@@jensenflyfishing excellent point! I fish heavily pressure streams in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I've caught a lot of trout but they are "minnows" in comparison to your fish. Is there certain water conditions one should look for to grab larger fish in frequently pressured streams?

@@jensenflyfishing not a clue what you mean
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 жыл бұрын
@@rookstorm1 if you look at people that reel on their unnatural side you'll see a pulsing of the rod tip that bobs and places uneven pressure into the line during the fight that the fish responds to. By reeling on your dominant/natural side you avoid that. It shows up unmistakably in high frame rate video and can cause far more issues in the fight than it's worth. Switching hands to reel as natural, on the other hand, causes zero issues. Cheers

Right handed with the rod and right hand reel retrieve? Seems odd to keep swapping your rod hand so you can retrieve line.

That is how my father fished and seemed to be the way it was done back then, seems strange. I fish right handed and retreive with the left, makes more sense to me. Of course some people must prefer it that way, maybe more comfortable for them!
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 2 жыл бұрын
if you try to do something not natural or force something, you get errors. When we reel with our left hand it causes bobbing motions at the rod tip and that in turn causes issues in the fight and the trout's response. In taking ownership of that, we do what is smoothest and easiest and most effective for us. It matters not one iota in the result. Cheers
