Randy is so good, and this song is not only funny, it speaks to the history of mankind, alcohol, and having company around.

My husband and I met Randy Travis in Nashville just before he became famous. He was cooking at the Nashville Palace and singing in between. I saw his first album in a case and walked over to ask Randy if we could buy one. He sat down at our table and we talked about country singers that we had met. I told him to stay with it because I said he was as good as anyone out there. At that point his manager, later wife, came over to see what was going on. We got the album and Randy signed it with the name he was using at that time - Randy Ray. I take very good care of that album. Even when he spoke, he had that wonderful voice. It makes me so sad to see him now.

The only thing I love on this channel more than knowing a song you react to, is experiencing a song the first time with you. Thanks for another good one brother.

Morning Don and all. For pure unadulterated country music you can't do better than Randy Travis. This song is from his debut "Storms of Life" album which is loaded w/ great songs, including the title track, from beginning to end. Don you are right there will always be watering holes to gather and commiserate w/ each other after all Misery loves company. Also remember they tried to outlaw it once and that didn't go to well. Randy actually wrote this one himself and thematically reminds me of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands "Turn of the Century". Fantastic song, fantastic reaction, and fantastic thanks to you Don't and you Jeff. Good day to all! --#UTRCM

That song was the final cut of his debut studio album, "Storms of Life." It was a banger of an album. What a fantastic combination of songwriting, production, musicianship, and Randy's spectacular, resonant, emotive unsurpassed country-stylin' voice. Here's a reaction recommendation, also from that album: "Reasons I Cheat."

Another one I hadn't heard in a long time. To your question of when, this was on Randy's fabulous debut album Storms Of Life released in 1986. I love the sentiment in this song and Randy was the perfect voice to bring it to life. Thanks again Don, another great one!

@Terry Woods Hi I saw something on YT yesterday you maybe interested in if you haven't already seen it. Ian Tyson was speaking w/Jerry Jeff Walker and told an interesting story about his song "Four Winds". I know how much you like Ian so thought I would pass it on.

Mike back in the day I used to rodeo and Ian and I did the road thing together as he was the reserve champion in Canada for Cutting Horses. Four Strong Winds is a bit of an ode to Alberta the province I was born in. Terry another great Ian Tyson song is Summer Wages. It is close to my favorite as it in a way describes a part of my life. Glad to find another Ian fan!

Jeff thank you so much for this request! It really took me back.... I think everyone can relate to time spent in a Honkey-Tonk commiserating with friends, or trying to forget their problems, or perhaps just sitting back relaxing and getting lost in the Atmosphere. I remember those days well....... Don thanks for the reaction and taking me back to better days through my memories! #UTRCM

reminds me of something my dad used to comment on while driving all the backroads, all these tiny little towns, there could only be 5 buildings total and one of them will always be a bar. gone through some "towns" with like 10 people living there and that's about all there is, other than some houses, is the bar LOL

I took a 3-hour college course in country music given by the same professor who taught Japanese Culture (go figure, huh?). When we listenedto this song, he declared that he was the 'one old hanger onner.' My favorite song on this album is 'Send My Body Home,' which has get to be one-of-a-kind on subject matter and general feel. I bet a lot of people would like to hear it.

After reviewing John Conlee's "I don't remember loving you", another thought provoking song is "50,000 names" by George Jones. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Jamie O'Hara's song. George gives it the gravitas it needs, whereas Jamie's version is more lightweight.
