i have 2017 evoke..was leaking oil...mechanic said something hit the oil filter and dented it and cracked it..is this possible? i thought there was a plate covering the oil filter...thank you

Thanks for the helpful video. I am looking these up because I may be picking up a 2013 model. I had someone offer me a decent deal for my bmw m6 with this model range rover as a trade. I just heard that past range rovers were highly unreliable and I don't want to get stuck with high dollar maintenance (not that my M6 is cheap to maintain). What is your opinion, fairly reliable? Honestly only serviced for 2 different customers but they both had no issues over a 60,000km ish time frame of working on them. As always I would research any common problems before purchase, it helps with a check list should you view one.

They have a place for sure, I have one in the workshop but I never use it for service. I removed engine oil due to people over filling there levels or fuel leaking into the sump bringing the engine oil level up. It is a straight fail on the car test here if the level is exceeded by any amount, they refuse to test for fear of damage under load. So for that purpose is perfect I don't even need to bring the car in the door. If you have the engine nice and warm it can suck it pretty quick using the right pipe down the dipstick hole, I would always suspect that it would not remove the full capacity like a drain plug, would be an interesting test to see if it would.

Gerard Burke ya it sure would. Definitely better off draining but working on a driveway with a trolley jack and modern cars with all the trays to remove its easier suck!

That is true, some covers nowadays have so many clips and bolts/screws. Not too bad when they all come out, not so much fun when they jam even on a lift :) They are good priced, under €100 and if you know the book capacity of drain you can measure exactly what comes out, may only be a few hundred ml left in, but be a good driveway option.

Very good Ger. Would it be 15w40 you use in most diesel engines? (Ireland) Also is there a gasket that gets replaced in the sump nut?

5w30 Fully Syn is the common oil for a large majority of newer diesels. A new copper washer on the sump plug. You could easily reuse the old one (if you hadn't a new one) if it was not over tightened previously, just run the engine with the bottom cover off for 10 mins and see if it stays bone dry. Best to replace but always an option.

Gerard Burke Thats gas. 5w30 is what is recommended and what I've always put in my 06 1.6petrol hyundai. Herself has a 181 kia and l was hoping to do the oil and filter change myself but wondering will l be able now with these dashboard warnings (l assume she'll throw something up on dash?)

Bambinohead1 always put the recommended manufacturers oil grade into your engine your presumption will result in a costly engine rebuild or replacement at your cost not the dealership and rightly so.. you put the wrong grade oil in your 181 and the engine goes for a shit down the line😡 first thing the dealer will do is drain of some oil and send it off to have it tested,,, you have the wrong grade oil in it tuff shit.. they won’t stand over it.

I do what the customer requests, it is not my vehicle and I respect what a customer wishes to do with their vehicle, if they had wanted the other items done I would have certainly recorded it. I think it helped a few people Shane and I did not mislead anyone. The video is exactly as described.
