Sonic Mania is pretty much the only game that doesn't make me go "uuhhhhggh". You can tell how much thought was put in the level design. Great rank!

@@eggrobo Well i don't see anyone complaining when Sonic CD is ranked lower than Sonic 1, how can Sonic 1 be consider superiour than any of the 16 bits, when there are only two viables levels.

@@SFproductions1 I respect you opinion and yell I do think Mania has more going for it but Sonic 3 and Knuckles just took everything special from the previous games and expanded upon it. And Mania was GREAT but I just prefer Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Ok I’m not including the game gear games cause I haven’t played them but here is my list. 5.Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) Unlike a lot of people I hear talking about this game nowadays I do actually think this game is weaker than sonic CD. Sonic 1 I feel like just has the worst good stage to bad stage ratio, and I think it has the worst special stages with the worst reward. Game is still awesome though. 4.Sonic CD (1993) The only stage I don’t like in this game is wacky workbench. All the others I think have fantastic level design for incentivizing time travel and exploration. Speaking of which, the time travel takes this game to another level. It does a better job making you explore than any other classic sonic game. This game also just has the best soundtrack and visuals in the entire franchise. The main things holding this game back for me is the spin dash, the boss fights, and the obscurity of SOME generators. Such as the aforementioned wacky workbench. 3.Sonic Mania (2017). This one is kind of a hot take nowadays for sure, and even I can acknowledge on an objective level this is the best classic sonic game. The only reason I have this game at third comes down to very personal issues, I like the redone stages but to me it gives the game less identity than the other four, and I also prefer shorter faster stages to the large ones mania and 3 use… speaking of which 2.sonic 3 and knuckles (1994) What can I even say this game is just a classic and everyone knows it. Once again I can acknowledge this game is better than sonic 2, but at the end of the day the pacing of sonic 2 just makes me wanna replay it way more than this game 1.Sonic 2 (1992) This game has everything I love about the others but with one more important attribute. Brevity, this game goes by so fast, it’s honestly the perfect pace. The longest you will ever be in a level is 3 minutes, compare this to 3 or mania which can often go to 7. The brisk pace of sonic 2 just makes me wanna sit down and play through the whole thing when I got an hour to spare. This game gets me to the gameplay I love so much with the least amount of stuff in my way.

Ranking all Genesis Sonic Games: 1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles The perfect calmination of all things Classic Sonic. Fast levels, fun special stages, Knuckles, great art direction, bangin’ music, and overall, a great game. However it’s not perfect. Carnival Night and Sandopolis are messes, Marble Garden is eh, and Flying Battery is a bit slow and tedious, but overall it is still the best Classic Sonic game. 2. Sonic the Hedgehog CD Definitely an unexpected choice for #2, and it definitely doesn’t deserve it’s place in #2, but I just personally like Sonic CD. I like the music, especially the Japanese soundtrack, but the American one has some great music as well, I like the time travel gimmick, although it’s a bit hard to get max speed and keep it in these glorified obstacle courses, the Super Peel-Out is pretty cool and I just like Sonic CD. If I were to rank these off of quality instead of personally, this would definitely be above Sonic the Hedgehog 1. 3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 The first game to feature Miles “Tails” Prower, a way for little brothers to feel like they’re helping, with the games new 2 player. It improves tons of stuff from the first game, it adds the spin dash, it makes sure all levels are like Green Hill Zone from the first game where you can zip through it and maintain speed, it has a good balance of slow and speedy sections, has good music and fixes the Special Stages. Sure it may be hard to look for checkpoints, and keep the 50 rings to use on the checkpoint, sure it may take away rings after the stage and you can’t see much in the special stages because the Genesis wasn’t quite capable of handling “3D”, and Tails may be a pain in the tail by trying his best to follow Sonic, and instead loses 50 rings to a bomb, but if you manage to put up with all of that you get a great reward. Super Sonic makes his debut as not only a good ending but as a new way to play the game. He’s faster, can jump higher, and is invincible! Sonic 2 definitely deserves it’s place in #2. Except I like Sonic CD for some reason so it’s going in 3rd. 4. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine It’s Puyo Puyo. It’s always a fun time to just pop it in, vs. one another, or just play the game’s “story.” There’s not really much to say about it, it’s just Puyo Puyo with a Sonic skin. Still good game, would recommend. 5. Sonic the Hedgehog The first game of our spiny blue critter. They hit it out of the ball park with Green Hill, and then the rest of the hits are massive misses. Green Hill is great, it’s like a giant playground to mess with momentum, slopes, collect rings, learn controls, go fast and what have ya, but as soon as you get to Marble, everything goes down Green Hill. Marble is slow, tedious and monotonous. It’s a bunch of waiting and no speed. Spring Yard is fun, with springs and bumpers to go around, and gaining speed with slopes can be fun. Labyrinth is slow, tedious, Sonic doesn’t know how to swim and needs to breath air, meaning lots, and lots of drowning. Did I mention it’s a water level? Star Light is good, Scrap Brain is fine with it’s 2 acts and then it goes straight into Labyrinth again for act 3, and Final Zone sure is the final zone. Special Stages are obtained by collecting 50 rings and getting to the end of the stage. It’s all fine until you realize the special stages look like a drug trip and since you can’t get to Special s Stages on every Act 3, and Special Stages don’t exist in Scrap Brain, and there are only 6 Chaos Emeralds, it leaves you 4 chances to fail. And for what? A slightly different ending screen? Sonic the Hedgehog was a good first game, and managed to get people invested in the hedgehog, but the sequels improved upon so many of this games downfalls that they basically make this one obsolete. Still a fun time, despite it’s problems. 6. Sonic 3D Blast The isometric view can get a little trippy, and despite there being save data in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, they couldn’t have been bothered to put it in here. You have to destroy all the badniks to go to the next section of the level, and levels feel like they drag on. Sonic moves a bit weird, and getting to and doing the special stages isn’t that hard. Just find Tails or Knuckles, have a certain amount of rings, then do the special stage. Actually they’re a bit too easy for my liking. I’m just confused what happens to my Chaos Emeralds when I fail, because when I fail, I don’t see the emeralds I’ve previously collected. Does this mean I have to do all the special stages perfectly in a row? I don’t know. 7. Knuckles’ Chaotix Never played it, looks somewhat fun but I’ve heard bad stories about it. 8. Sonic Spinball Tried it once, didn’t progress that much, looks worse, and less fun than Knuckles’ Chaotix so I’m just gonna put it under it.

I don't say much about people skill or being good in games but how did you spend 20 mins in flying battery. It's one of the most linear levels. You show sky sanctuary in the gameplay but that's only a single act so I don't think you meant that. I can see sandopolous or launch base but flying battery? Idk. Good vid though ofc. I'd put cd over sonic 1 but that's me.

Where are Sonic 1 and 2 for the Master System/ Game Gear? Sonic 1 for the Master System is arguably more fun than the original version for the Genesis.

@@ClassicssgamesGameplays I highly prefer the Wii version mainly because of nostalgia. It was my first Sonic game. I actually recently finished the DS version for the first time around a month ago. But yeah, Wii verison is better imo

Knuckles Chaotic is not just a sonic game, It's not a Knuckles game either, his name doesn't appear in the game starting screen and none of the game is really based on Knuckles' abilities. So it's not a sonic game, it's not a Knuckles game either or even to rest of the chaotic crew. This game belongs exclusively to the ring tether.

Ranking Classic Sonic Games 12. Sonic Blast - The Worst Classic Sonic Game I have ever played. 11. Sonic 3D Blast - I played a lot since I was a child, but going back, it doesn't age well. 10. Sonic 2 (GG/SMS) - The game is very frustrating to beat with its level design and bosses. 9. Sonic Chaos - Simple game, interesting special stages, and it's too short. 8. Sonic 1 (GG/SMS) - Not a bad game, decent experience. 7. Sonic Triple Trouble - Best Game Gear Sonic Game. 6. Sonic 1 (Genesis) - Not a bad start for the Sonic Series, but levels like Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone are nightmares. 5. Knuckles Chaotix - Underrated game, but it's on par with Sonic 1 (Genesis). 4. Sonic CD - Slightly better than Sonic 1, but it doesn't stand out with the Top 3. 3. Sonic 2 (Genesis) - Huge improvement when looking at the level design and gameplay, but it has some frustrating levels like Oil Ocean Zone, Metropolis Zone, and Death Egg Zone. 2. Sonic Mania - It improves everything, but the lack of originality and meh storytelling fits the game at number 2. 1. Sonic 3 and Knuckles - The best Classic Sonic game I have ever played. Still to this day, I enjoy playing Sonic 3 and Knuckles when going back to it.

I still would rank CD above both 1 and 2. 2 is genuinely a great game, but very overrated by a lot of people. I also think CD possibly has the best classic sonic physics besides maybe Mania. Also the soundtrack is the best out of all the classics. I rank it 3rd below Mania and 3(& Knuckles).
