Omg I'm a 38 year old man and always thought cuss words were actually French because people always said pardon my French. Turns out they're Germanic and pardon my French is a derogatory term towards French people. B from the P probably helped perpetuate that incorrect belief. Amazing discovery from my childhood. Definitely a blast from the past.
@Just.Kidding4 ай бұрын
Saying they're Germanic doesn't quite cover it. English is a Germanic language, but it's also _heavily_ influenced by French. Your post even has "French" words in it. Essentially, when it comes to profanity in English, each word has its own history. Plenty of them would just be best described as English. You would describe a _language_ as Germanic, but not _words._
