I don't understand why he's complaining. I've had distro for 3+ years now, and while I don't get as much as the big guys, my average allocations per set have grown yearly. It doesn't seem like he's trying to run a business; it looks like he wants to cherry-pick the best 1-2 sets per year.

@@elliottkleckner It's pretty hard but possible even without a social following. I first got one back in late 2021. I put together a list of all US distributors and applied to them all every three months until someone finally let me in. I now have three total: two for TCGs and one for sports cards. The best time to apply is during slow periods, like in late 2021, when the Pokemon hype died down, or in 2023 when the SV era tanked. Keep trying!

@@elliottkleckner You can get lucky with distro as online seller if you have proof of substantial sales. What that number of sales look like idk. But if you can show them you can run a business (especially a profitable one) with just wholesale deals and retail discounted product they will at least take you seriously enough to keep an eye out at your business. But keep in mind, distro sells volume. If you're just a dude buying a box or 2 here and there you got no chance at all.

A lot of people like to build boogeymen that are out to get them so if/when things don't don't their way it was due to outside forces outside of their control. If they do go their way then it was that much more impressive since they overcame in spite of the boogeyman.

Its clear what happened here. Guy tried to have distributors in his back pocket to score low prices with zero intentions of a business. But as a normal collector wanted to land the sought-after sets for cheap. He thought they would always be there regardless of how much spent. He wanted to score big on prismatic and they told him to kick rocks.

I’ve been a Electrician to Management for 20 years and I’m enjoying my journey to owning my own online collectible store. I have a lot of ups and downs but honestly it’s more like learning this aspect of having a business, from having a distributor, and selling. Because of your videos you have shown me a flaw that I’ve been lacking which is social media content and this coming year I will focus on posting more rather than watching reels lol. There seems to be a lot of doom and gloom going around, and have been for a while. But Pokémon is not gonna stop. Pokémon is like Blizzard, people are gonna keep coming back to it, regardless if you've loved it forever, or been burned by a bad product/releases.

Sounds like that dude got venting and giving advice mixed up. Thanks for addressing this. Negativity is annoying but it does also serve a purpose of weeding out a crowded field. This business isn't easy and someone who is going to be turned away by these comments on the marketplace is likely going to also fall prey to something else in their way. Business is problem solving and half of entrepreneurship is solving problems for yourself and your customers.

It just seems like he isn't functioning in the modern economy and is living back 30 years ago when it was gatekeeping, and there were deals in place to hold people back. He does have his own business. I’ve purchased from him in the past. He has definitely changed over the last 2 years tho. He is always angry and hateful. He clearly doesn’t enjoy what he does anymore and might be a great time for him to find something else to do. 😂

I’m just getting started in this journey with the Japanese sets but here in Australia it appears there is only one distributor and having chats with small local brick and mortar operations they get the shaft verses the bigger retailers. I can go order from our version of GameStop and get it in a few days verse them who have been told earliest they can get booster boxes is feb next year

17:45 There does not have to be a hiearchy. There is no reason businesses could not simply get what they ordered. If supply is limited the price can be increased to avoid instantly selling out.

@@atvman12 What happens? Shops are able to have guaranteed inventory which also makes preorders become more reliable. Anyone should be able to spend more to get more instead of the existing system where how much you get is arbitrary since they don't have enough supply to simply sell it.

@gyroninjamodder are you really that daft? "Everyone should be able to spend more to get more" one of the whole points of tcgs is the rarity and hunt for cards. If enough was printed for everyone and their mother to order all they wanted the card game would utterly fail. I can tell you really know nothing about the actual business and how card games actually function. And as I said again, you can't simply "raise the price of the product". The community would riot, and make the game more inaccessible for younger and people with lower incomes.

@@atvman12Printing more cars doesn't make rare cards less rare since the extra common cards balance it out. The prices of cards will not crash to nothing because someone had to spend money to get the pack the card came from. If the community will not buy from shops if the price goes up, then shops won't buy from distributors for a high price.

Doesn't that kind of remind you of something going on in the political world. Just because you don't like how somebody comes across or their attitude or whatever does not mean that what they say is wrong. In my opinion, I like your attitude. I like the frankness. I like that.
