Most likely because they don't actually care. They know a song whose title is the Suicide Hotline will get them air time, downloads, digital purchases, and most importantly, people talking about it and sharing it. They know it will result in hype, so they write some generic "Don't be sad" lyrics, which is how we got the "Throw your hands up if you can relate!" call and answer.

Strings and strings players have have been shorthand for passionate lovers in media for decades. Anyone seen how the instrument wrests between the knees and moves with a persons body almost like they’re one; or like they’re dancing “cheek to cheek”Since everybody such an authority. How come nobody’s talking about cell vibrato? Nobody seen a super passionately animated cellist? Maybe it’s not that deep and it’s literally a reference to the vibrato hand motion. So she uses her hands. .... it still sounds bad as heck tho.

Ah yes, the "gay" part of the song. (AKA the music video.) Here's the thing i want to know: why wasn't the video about suicide? Why was it about a different topic? (And yes, i know you are making a joke but this is a real question that i have.)
@nox32265 жыл бұрын
Keelan Barron it is about suicide, the video just focuses on one story. you see the main character with a gun at one point after being rejected by his father. lgbtq+ people have higher suicide rates than the rest of the population - this is shown to correlate with how accepting one’s family is (those with non-accepting families are the main pple with higher suicide rates). hope this made sense, let me know if you have any questions
@keelanbarron9285 жыл бұрын
@@nox3226 i kind of knew this. I still think that the video should've focused on someone who is suicidal instead of someone who is apart of the lgbtq thing. (Because the song isn't about how lgbtq people are being treated badly, it's about how people are depressed to the point of killing themselves. If the song was about lgbtq people as well as suicide, then it would make sense.)
@nox32265 жыл бұрын
Keelan Barron I’m kind of confused by your response. the character in the video was suicidal - it was one example of a suicidal person. i get that there was focus on the fact he liked guys but that was part of the story. at the same time, i get where you’re coming from. i’ve struggled with suicide and it was not like in the video. i feel like that’s the point though, you can’t show everyone’s story so why not show one? sorry if i repeated myself, im really fucking tired

4:55 maybe the irony is that he's gay. The sex with the girl is expected, but he doesn't actually want to do it. Or perhaps it's really deep dramatic irony. He thinks he's sexing a woman, but we, listening to the omniscient 3rd person narrator know that it's a robot. (No, i don't actually believe he meant any of that. I doubt he knows what "irony" actually means. Hell, I've written papers on "irony", and I'm not 100% sure what it means. Isn't that ironic? ... No, seriously. Is it? I don't know no more.) (Edited for typos because I'm my own grammar nazi.)

Really solid list here, RC. I eagerly await your best list and hope that my suggestion makes it. (Buy Now by Spose was the song I chose) BTW, really enjoyed your "fake deep" tangent, as some rappers are willing to be silly in some songs & serious in others..... and there's nothing wrong with that. Or even being both at the same time. I mean, Thrift Shop was a silly song, but it also showed how brand names rip people off. Even if you don't agree with the message being portrayed, at least hear the person out as they usually have some good points. Anyways, you have a Merry Christmas.

I can almost see where you’re getting from. But I think that would only work if he was a rapper known for avoiding cliches (i.e. he’s never brought up sex with your girl in a song). I don’t normally listen to A$AP Ferg so idk if he is, but if he’s not and he always uses popular rap cliches, there’s nothing ironic about taking your girl because it’s not subverting anyone’s expectations.

Given that there is a woodwind that fits the rhyme scheme, oboe, it does raise questions of its own if he were to use that instead. If she's blowing you, one would assume her mouth would be open. Most woodwinds have small reed aperture, especially the oboe. So...does that mean he's packing a toothpick downstairs? Sorry, I always found any reference to instrumental fellatio hilarious because of that. Also, on the "wee-wee" comment, the only other song I can think of that you didn't show was So Dope by Tech N9ne where Twisted Insane says it twice. Innuendos abound and he uses that word TWICE.

I think Jaden Smith meant to say THOMAS Jefferson. Which makes the rest of the lyrics make more sense. He just fucked up. Also the Snoop Dogg lyric might be in reference to doing Molly, a drug made famous in the Bay Area and can have your eyes peeled back when you accidentally overdose and is known to make you do dances in the Bay Area similar to wiggling. I know Snoop is from LA but the voice he’s using is *kinda* similar to a Bay Area rapper and Snoop rapping about Molly in this sort of way could be a clowning moment and a message on today’s rappers doing a lot of drugs. This is the only explanation I can think of for this and it’s already kind of a reach.
