Been an a-ha fan since I was 12, I’m now 51, a-ha are still active today. They hold two Guinness book records. Morten for the longest held note in a single release. And largest paying audience of 198,000 people in Brazil in the 90’s, where they out sold guns and rose and George Michael who both only got 60,000. It was part of a 25 date tour of South America for a-ha, to a combined audience of over 3 million people. a-ha have done many styles of albums including rock. One of the best live bands also. And morten harket has one of the greatest voices in music ever.

Listen, I'm 53 nearly 54 and totally at a loss as to how Dick Ghastly and Ren were fighting for number one spot. I've got brain damage, so when I finally sleep and wake up, I have no idea where I am or what year I'm in until i jog my brain! Rick Astley was bad whig first time round, without subjecting me to that monotonous track and then say Ren... in the same sentence 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 I'm going to guess you can see the serious confusion I had, if you watch BP! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 It was probably last year, still feels like yesterday 😆 I am the proud owner of a sick boi hoodie, figure and CD neener 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Stay safe and educate, don't hate... teach! ❤️ (not directed, just how I feel like signing off today).

@@doomhunter697 True, and animation in general is obviously even older, but these technical innovations had not been used in a way that is so artistically linked to the lyrics and the story being told in a music video before. What makes it such a technically innovative video is not using a new technique, but using a well-known technique in such a unique way.

They’re from Norway. They’re definitely not a one hit wonder band, although sometimes that can be a matter of taste. They released their final album two years ago. There are definitely similarities in this band’s early 80’s music and other synthesiser based European pop bands from that time period. It might be that you are not as familiar with this type of music and if you did enjoy it and continued to listen to more you would pick up on smaller nuances and see or hear more subtle differences. That’s kind of what I think happens with me when I am exposed to something much different than what I’m used to. Some people say a-ha when they find something they’ve lost.

In the 1980s MTV was huge and a lot of filmmakers tried their hand at making music videos and trying to innovate in different ways. As others have commented, this video was like nothing most people had seen, with the combination of live action, comic-book style art, and animation all blended together. The song was very catchy, of course, and the combination of eye-popping graphics and that earworm of a tune made it something that was in constant rotation on MTV when it dropped.

The 80's saw the advent of the classic Synth... but there really wasn't a lot of variety there yet, so many 80's bands sound similar because they were all using the same synth, more or less. There were still bands doing the classic rock thing, but the New Wave movement really brought Synth to popularity. Many acts from the 70's, like Jefferson Starship, would reinvent themselves in the 80's with a new sound, always chasing the popular trends. Phil Collins is credited with developing this very unique 'Gated Reverb' drum sound for his album in the early 80's that EVERY artist was using afterwards. There is a very cool documentary video on it on You Tube.

We could hardly believe it when we saw A full page interview with him in our local news paper in Asker. Little did we know how famous Aha would become. Remember back in the day Norway had only one channel owned by the state television companh, So when mtv and the music videos started broadcasting in Norway it was quite a sensation, - and especially when it involved one of our own becoming famous. My husband said we dressed so weird in the 80's because our parents were on acid when they had us. 😂

Hey Pegasus, I still have this on a 45 vinyl. I used to like jumping around to it when I was a kid. Mine and my bros hair used to stick up dancing on the nylon carpet too the record player. Before I became a stroppy teen. Lol. Its super catchy pop techno with Morton trilling away like a choirboy.👍

Lot od the 80s music was the beginning of the electric sound, and as an 80s child, I do agree a lot of songs do sound simular

Best Pop/Rock Band with the best vocalists in the music scene. Morten Harket the vocalist has a 5 octave vocal range. The Band is from Norway, and has 3 member's (Morten Harket vocal, Pal Waaktaar-Savoy - Guitar, Magne Furuholmen - Piano /Keyboard). Although they're known as a One hit band in the USA (even that is not true they had more than 1 hit in the us) they are big stars in the rest of the world. The band were listed 2x in the Guinness World Records book 1. For having the biggest-paying rock concert attendance. They drew an audience of 198,000 at Maracanã Stadium during the Rock in Rio festival 1991. 2. For holding the longest note in a pop song by Morten Harket in their Song ' Summer Moved On ' They sold near to 150 million albums and singles, released 11 Studio Albums (the last Album 'True Nord' was released end of 2022 accompanied by a movie of the same name which was shown in cinemas all over the world.) The music video for Take On Me was groundbreaking and won six awards and was nominated for two others at the 1986 MTV Music Awards. The band made a James Bond theme song "The Living Daylights" and also their Song "Velvet" was the Theme Song of the movie "One Night At McCool's" with Matt Damon. In 2017 a-ha performed for a MTV Unplugged concert and played and recorded acoustic versions of many of their popular songs including "Take On Me". This acoustic version was used in Deadpool 2 and in The Last Of Us. Take On Me has been covered countless times by other bands. The song "Feel This Moment", for example, performed by Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera, samples the instrumental riff of Take On Me. Take On Me was used in many Hollywood movies like Ready Player One, Deadpool 2, Stranger Things .. A-ha influenced many other bands and singers especially - U2 (in their song A Beautiful Day the passage 'Touch Me' refers to the A-ha song The Sun Always Shines On Tv), - Coldplay (all Coldplay members are a-ha fans. One of the first albums that Coldplay singer Chris Martin bought was 'Hunting High And Low' by a-ha. The song "Living A Boys Adventure Tale" blew him away so much that he decided to become a singer himself. He said in some interviews , that Morten is the best and most beautiful singer in the world. Some members of Coldplay have even formed a separate band with the pianist from a-ha Magne. - Kean is also one of the bands that openly admit the a-ha influence. A-ha is one of the few bands that released albums where every song has the potential to be a hit, they have a distinctive style, they are very versatile and all band members can play multiple instruments. The band's guitarist, Pal, is a genius when it comes to song writing. I would really recommend you to get involved with the band. The band's 90s phase in particular is incredibly interesting because they showed that they were as much a rock band as they were a pop band

So iconic. One of the best videos of the 80's. The part where Morten breaks out of the comic at the end still gives me goosebumps. 38 years later... Damn, man. It was yesterday.
