Freddie conquered opera! He also wrote the songs- along with his good friend Mike Moran, wrote the entire album which is Barcelona. In fact the song Barcelona was used in the 1992 Olympics in Spain a year after Freddie passed. There are at least 10 songs on the album and Freddie and Monserrat sing in English, Portuguese and Japanese.. you just don’t know how talented Freddie was. He wasn’t really British- he was Persian and born in Zanzibar- he moved to England when he was seventeen. Freddie, Brian and Roger were friends before Freddie joined and they formed Queen. I’m so thrilled that you are still checking songs out- they have a vast discography! You really listen and absorb the music as us Queenies do. Thank you Sir.

Freddie Mercury was so much more than a rock singer, he was a brilliant musician, an excellent singer, songwriter, storyteller. He had an eclectic musical taste and the range to sing operatic songs. Montserrat Caballé was one of the most famous opera divas of the last century, she was famous for her very high soft notes. Freddie and Montserrat became good friends very quickly, they adored each other, and Montserrat was brave enough to take the risk of singing with a rock star, because she recognized The Musician in Freddie instantly. Montserrat remembered to that night this way: "While he was singing, I noticed that his eyes were shiny with tears. I gave him my hand. He clasped it and kissed it. It was clear he was suddenly aware of his own fate. They were tears of farewell. It was his goodbye, at least to the stage."

Freddie was souch an excellent singer and Montserrat was the number 1 operatic soprano in the world. , Freddie admired her so much.that he told some reporter that he would love for her to sing one of his songs. He just meant having a recording of her singing one of his songs but her people contacted his people and she said she wanted to meet at her home in Barcelona, Spain and see if they could do something together. So Freddie wrote a song and they recorded it but then Montserrat suggested that they do a whole album. Freddie didn't even know where to start but he worked with her through recordings to get her opinion on things while she was busy touring. Finding time was the hard part between both of their schedules but they made it a priority and the album Barcelona was created. It was the first time a rock singer had collaborated ith an opera singer and they created something beautiful and magical.

Doing these performances in 88 was the last time Freddie sang on stage. He knew he was dying and didn't have long,in the song at the end of his speaking the lyrics Monsy noticed tears in his eyes and he put his head down teying to regain control, she offered him her hand. She said it was like he knew this was it,he had shared his illness with her,she said he held on tightly and continued. This is to my mind his most honest lyrics about how he felt at that time. It was a sign of how much he lived and trusted herthat he yold her about aids, the band and only a handful of people knew the truth and how close Freddie was to the end. I'm so pleased he got to do this as it was a dream if his. Goldey boy is a must. Xx

. . . and. here you have Freddie's Queen band mate, John Deacon, playing his fabulous Bass on this number. I read after Freddie ran thru it several times said he just had to have Deaky's bass to get what he needed. So here it is. Thanks for your reaction...Their collaboration was very well received...."The Golden Boy" was more dramatic...quite emotional. As Freddie's life was winding down, he achieved his great dream to collaborate with the Opera Diva. Others have told you about that...wrote several of the songs they sang.'

Montserrat was (is) the best soprano in the world ❤ Freddie was blown away when he first heard her sing in 1986 and their beautiful friendship was born. He reached to her wanted to do a duet together but it ended in doing the whole album 😮 Freddie wrote all of it together with Mike Moran. Freddie wrote a song Barcelona about Montsys home town and he recorded a demo with him singing also her part and sent it to her. She was amazed and the song was chosen to a theme song for Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Sadly Freddie knew and told her that he wouldn't live long enough to perform it with her ... 😢 At La Nit they didn't really sing live (it was lip sync) because of Freddie's illness but it is still a stunning performance.

Definitely do the song Barcelona from the same concert as this one, also, Now I'm Here, Hammer to Fall and Breakthrough are some of my most favourite tracks, not sure if you'll find Breakthrough live as it was from their last album close to Freddie's passing but an awesome video too =P

Freddie and Monserrat Caballes’ album written by Freddie Mercury and Mike Moran after Freddie discovered he had AIDS made me love opera. Their song Guide Me Home is the one I want played at my funeral. The whole album is a masterpiece of two kinds of musicians blending effortlessly.

He looked dapper but was actually very sick already. I love this song. Not a fan of opera but like her and love Freddie.. His song Te'o Terriante was used for the Olympics in Japan. They also have a Christmas song that many people don't know about at the time it came out because it got overshadowed by Fo They Know it's Christmas, the song to raise money for famine in Ethiopia bat the time.. The most energetic Queen song is Now I'm Here!!

Legend. It should be noted though that great as this is, it's not really live. The Orchestra is, but the vocals are taken from the album. Freddie was getting sicker and they were both too busy for rehearsal. This concert was used to celebrate Barcelona hosting the Olympics 92. Something Freddie would never see, but at the time, only he knew that.

Freddie was Indian Parsi, although the Parsi’s originally emigrated to India from Persia somewhere around the 7th century. Although born in Zanzibar, he already was a British subject because India and Zanzibar were British protectorates at the time of his birth. My understanding is that when his family moved to England, they already were considered British.
