Monday Night Raw and WCW Monday Nitro go head to head in another weekly battle for television ratings supremacy! The date is 6.3.1996, Raw is on the USA Network while Nitro is live over on TNT, and WCW is seriously turning up the heat with the recent debut of Scott Hall.
While both Raw and Nitro are still a long way away from being the top rating TV shows that they would soon become, WCW Nitro is starting to show signs of greatness. Scott Hall appears towards the end of the show to announce a "big surprise" for next week's broadcast, and WCW are also in a period of remembering their history when The Rock N Roll Express take on Ric Flair and Arn Anderson of the Four Horsemen this week. Over on WWF Raw, the company is gearing towards the King of the Ring pay per view. We have more qualifying matches this week featuring Steve Austin, Jake Roberts and Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
You can feel WCW revving up the engines while the WWF seem a little stuck in their ways. WCW is now beginning to truly challenge the WWF in a way Vince McMahon wasn't used to (as evidenced by his commentary during this week's main event).
00:00 - Hour 1 of WCW Nitro
04:02 - Steve Austin vs Bob Holly
06:25 - The Rock 'n' Roll Express return to WCW
10:24 - Barry Horowitz vs Mankind / Giant vs Ice Train
13:15 - Goldust Promo / Hugh Morrus vs Scott Norton
15:18 - Godwinns vs Tekno Team 2000 / Kevin Greene & Mongo
18:30 - The Main Events
15:04 - Final Scores

Thanks to OSW Review of his time as The Earthquake, it's given me a retrospective appreciation for the big man. For a big man, he could go in the ring and not get too gassed as the match progressed, the man knew how to pace himself in a match. Of all the Hulkamania baddies, he is the one I felt was the biggest threat to Hogan and probably should have beaten him at one point during their feud.

Steve Austin was supposed to debut his Chilly McFreeze gimmick and be the mystery tag partner with Hall & Nash. He's good friends with them, but Vince convinced Steve to stay with King of the Ring, Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania victories. Turner would've been buying WWF a few years later otherwise.
@blackmantis3130
@blackmantis3130 3 жыл бұрын
@@AGH69 to say that is far fetched. You can't guarantee Steve austin would use the stone cold gimmick since it's property of WWE(WWF) and bischoff once told Steve austin he was unmarketable which lead to his release . you're basing your statement on what ifs .

The only page that is subjective and objective. Great channel and content i never thought would come up does. You could do a video about the history of the ring steps and it would be awesome

8:28 Flair selling for Randy Anderson is just so funny! I LOVE how Ric oversells the shoves and falls down!! 🤣🤣 Flair was one of the most entertaining heels ever

Imagine in a perfect world where no one broke kayfabe and both the WWF/E and WCW played along with each others storylines.

This should be a Nitro win just because of Hall's second appearance and talk of "big surprise". Come on Mr. Bios, we are in a historic moment here!

I look forward to this series every Thursday. We are getting into where I got back into wrestling in my teens. I was a total mark for WCW during their peak.

I’ve had a busy week so I was just finishing last week’s episode when this dropped. Nice.
