Reliving The War is a weekly show that takes an in-depth look at the WWF vs WCW “Monday Night War”. With WWF Raw airing on the USA Network and WCW Nitro airing live on TNT every Monday night, fans would choose which show to watch. This resulted in a TV ratings battle between the two companies. This time period in pro wrestling saw record viewers tuning in every week to see the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, the nWo, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Goldberg and Sting.
It's the night after WCW Road Wild 1997 and Lex Luger has a few things to say about his crushing defeat at the pay per view. The Steiners show they aren't done yet with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, and Curt Hennig gets a main event match against Randy Savage on this episode of Nitro. The main event for Clash of the Champions 35 is also confirmed this week.
On WWF Raw, Shawn Michaels has an insurance policy for his match against Mankind. HBK says the WWF are out to get him, so he's brought in someone to look out for his best interests. Bret Hart continues his feud with Del Wilkes, Dude Love gives an update on Steve Austin, and The Nation of Domination get a new member at the conclusion of a Faarooq vs Chainz match.
00:00 - Intro
01:27 - The Outsiders vs Starr & Moore
03:23 - Shawn Michaels talks about his insurance policy

Most definitely! I remember back when all this was going on in the wrestling world we only had the most basic of tv channels to watch. One of them was tnt or whatever nitro was on. But the picture was super static and flipping out. But I could hear it so that's how I watch my nitro back in the day lol

Humor, delivery, WCW/NWO Revenge songs playing in the background(Souled Out theme is the absolute BEST) AND ALEX WRIGHT DANCING being highlighted is whats makes this trip down memory lane a definite weekly adventure. Oh and Ahmed Johnson and The BikerMichaelLikers?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Im pretty sure I'm the only other human being who thought that was what he said. Glad to have ever watched this channel and series. +Def Proof Yep. Rocky & HHH were put on parallel tracks to see who would get to the top the quickest. 'Blueblood' Hunter Hearst Helmsley was fading out week after week as he got more vicious with Mankind since KOTR 97. 'The Blue Chipper' Rocky Maivia had lost all fan favor with his too-quick ascension to the Intercontinental Title. So the plan to evolve both young stars for the future of the business was put into motion. Hunter Hearst Helmsley would lose his regal manners more & more as he becomes 'HHH', Triple H, with D-Generation X. Rocky Maivia would lose his goody two shoes demeanor as he becomes 'The Rock' Rocky Maivia with The Nation. August 11, 1997 to March 30, 1998 & you see those parallel tracks keep going on. The day after WrestleMania 14 that March 30th is when HHH took over DX & The Rock took over The Nation. Summerslam 1998 is where the tracks derailed. The Rock got there first before HHH. He got to the World Title first. HHH would have to evolve again taking Rock's spot in the Corporation becoming The Game to get his World Title a year later.

This Nitro main event shows what I most loved about WCW. The awesome variety of main eventers... Savage, Hennig, DDP, Hall and Luger in one match. The WWF booking might have been better but it always felt like it was built around one or two guys.
@martynodonnell8467
@martynodonnell8467 2 жыл бұрын
I think the WWF, due to its booking, utilised what it had better than WCW. Sure WCW was packed with talent, compared to WWF, however they were on screen mostly for little amounts of time each or throw away matches, a lot of the time with DQ finishes. If WCWs booking was to a level of where WWFs was at, WCW , most probably, would have run away with the war, with the talent they had.

I am baffled that the WWE could honestly have expected Austin to compete at the very next PPV after nearly being paralyzed at SummerSlam. Like surely they would've gotten a medical estimate by this point no?

I was always a huge Zubelya See Zubelya fan. From way back as a kid. PS. I think this is the episode of Raw that saw Cornette blow up behind the scenes because they were burying the Patriot and call Kevin Dunn "Bucky Beaver".

I was at the WCW show. It was my first ever wrestling event. Also first time a televised promotion to come to my town. It was the reason I favored WCW to WWE even though I watched both. WWE never came to Biloxi

The birth of DX, the rebirth of the rock I didn't realise happened in the same night. And to think if the rock didn't catch a break turning heal and getting better with his mic and ring work he probably wouldn't have become the star he is.

20:41 it looks like Lex sees this guy rockin’ a denim shirt also and then thinks 🤔💭 , “Hey, another cool denim lover like me.” He kinda points at the gentleman(because denim lovers are gentlemen,takes one to know one 😉) and then does the right thing and gives his boy some love! Lex is actually my favourite wrestler now.
